  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2011 Genesis vs. 2011 Chrysler 300c

So the seats are better? Yeah the 2010's sucked. The plastic center arm rest doesn't wobble? The HEMI engine growls, but lacks refinement. I await the R-SPEC as my 2009 replacement.
Again- I liked the 300C in 2005...and am sure it is much improved for 2011. It needed to be. Did they kill the 2011 300 SRT-8? Nice to see that vs. the R-SPEC (if R-Spec had Brembos, supercharger)

The seats and everything else inside...

Sorry, I didn't read each reply carefuly in this thread, but has anyone mentioned that the 300c is god awful UGLY?!

No complarison as far as I'm concerned!

Some people love it, some people hate it. Just like the Genesis..

I'm thinking this thread belongs over in the "Genesis vs. the Competition" forum, not sure.

REGARDLESS... I'm still annoyed they didn't wait to compare the 5.7L 300C to the 5.0L R spec, so:

I went ahead and updated whatever information is available as of right now. Clearly, no performance updates as yet... but I will make sure to update this section when someone gets around to throw this baby around for real.

Man... I need to see those zoom-zoom times!!!

Anyone take a guess at where the 0-60, 1/4 mile, and maybe braking distance will come in?

Here's my guess: 0-60 in 5.0 seconds flat, 1/4 mile in 13.8 seconds, 60-0 in 118 ft

My 2011 4.6 has not disappointed me yet. I don't even have a gripe about the suspension. I won't mention warranties etc. Magazines and writers have opinions too. Just like mine and yours. They can keep the Chryslers. I like my Hyundai.

In the article they said the 300C's superior torque made it faster than the Genesis. Yet the 0-60 time favors the Genesis...what gives?

I noted MT's comment on the slow shifting of the Genesis, which caused it to be slower 0-60 than the Chrysler despite weighing less and having more power.

My guess is that Genesis protects the transmission with slower shift speeds. Perhaps this ZF transmission is close to the limits of its torque capacity.

I suspect the new eight-speed transmission will shift harder and faster.

I do think MT's acceleration times for the 2011 Genesis are "dull. My 2011 feels substantially more powerful than the 2009 I sold.

I re-read the article. It gave a 5.8s time for the Genesis. I think they themselves posted the 5.3s time for a 2009 model. Not sure what gives with that.

I'm in the market right now and have to tell you, the NEW 300 and Dodge Charger (same car) are AMAZING... there is NO COMPARISON to the old ones. I drove both the Genesis and the 300C this past weekend and they DEFINITELY should be compared. I'm not sure why the 2011 Genesis gets so much flack for the suspension but I'm used to BMWs so to me, I like a slightly stiff/flat ride. But the Dodge/Chrysler definitely have a more "european" ride. Smooth, but pretty flat cornering. And the Interior (both the Dodge and Chrysler) are right on par with the Genesis. Their Navigation system is also SO GOOD it could sell the car itself.

Believe me, I'm still leaning towards the Genesis 4.6 but just wanted to tell everyone that the new Chrysler/Dodge is pretty amazing.

Check the April 2011 Consumer Reports and J. D. Powers. After reading about the chrysler/dodge and the Hyundai Genesis I think you will see that the Hyundai is a much better quality and much more reliable car. I like to drive my car not a loaner from the dealer while mine is in the shop for repair, so no Chrysler or Dodge for me. 23,000 miles on my 2011 4.6 Genesis and only routine service has been needed. So far a better record than our previous car , a 2004 Acura, when it was new.

I'm pretty much sold on Hyundai quality but I think of any group, Hyundai owners would understand how perceptions can change for an entire brand when they build an exceptional vehicle. Hyundai was in 13th place in 2008 before the Genesis appeared. Just saying.

I have also stated in this forum that I have vacillated between the new 300C and Genesis. Can not comment on reliability or build quality of either but if appearance count, the 300 C is quite seductive. Most refer to problems with earlier Chrysler models and just maybe the '11 is superior. Big bucks to take to leap of faith though.

So far the 2011 300c according to J. D. Powers is not good in the drivetrain. It would be a very big leap.

Are you sure it the survey applied to '11? Not really out yet.

Yes, J. D. Powers applied to the first 90 days of ownership.

I don't understand. Can not even find the '11 300c on dealers lots yet. At least not in Central Jersey. The 200 has been out though.

Thanks for link. I plan to check it out at the NY Show tomorrow. Again, not sure how JD Power could have adequate info to evaluate the new model. Not likely up to level of Genesis but it sure does look good. Has a bunch of goodies also.

Your comment reminds me of a Top Gear episode where a Citroen was praised for style and ride but by the time you get it home switches stop working and knobs fall off.

Top Gear = WIN

And I'm sorry... but this car is just HIDEOUS:

I don't get it. Honestly, I just don't. My wife's uncle had the original, in black, and it was a nice looking car -- it evoked a sort of "understated class", much like the Genesis -- this "redesign" looks like it was put together haphazardly; the Audi-lights don't fit with the rest of the front end, and the front end doesn't match the rest of the car at all. Those mirrors... OH THOSE MIRRORS! It looks cheap. It's not much better than the $200 Chrysler, errr Chrysler 200. It will sell well as a fleet vehicle (for the O.G.'s out there), but I wouldn't be caught in one.

If this is the most luxurious Chrysler flagship ever (see link in picture above), then boy, that company is in SERIOUS trouble.

No thanks - there is no comparison, from an aesthetic point of view, to the Genesis. Not even close.

I find it interesting that one of Hyundai's beiggest obstacles is to overcome the "perception" its jaded past. Same with Chrysler from a quality perspective. We have to be careful not to paint brands with too wide a stripe. Mercedes has had many quality issues over the past decade. The fell from being the definition of quality to being unreliable. Their newer models are very good. CR recommends the C, E, and S class sedans now and their quality rating is above average. They seem to have turned it around. I am currently driving a 2011 E350 BlueTEC and have accumulated about 12K miles on it. It has been absolutely problem free. A truly remarkable vehicle. We tend to get defensive when folks polk at Hyundais quality history. I believe that Chrysler is turning the corner on quality as well.

Beauty in eyes of beholder? I still like it. Certainly totally different than the understated are perhaps more refined Genesis. Will see both tomorrow.
