The new Genesis had a similar driver's window air leak.
The tech/mechanic said he did everything possible to fix wind noise.
Does anyone else notice any type of window air leak/wind noise?
Hoping it is not just me!!!

I drove one saturday, a 2011, I didn't notice what you are speaking of.

What is the noise?

I think I know, and have been experiencing it since about 4K miles. A bit of air seeps in around the window causing more "road noise" than there was when I drove the car off the lot back in October. For me, this is band-aided by very slightly tapping the window down button (not long enough for it to move even visibly, but enough for it to evidently move a hair or so.) So, I'm 6K miles in and I'm already having to develop pre-flight routines to address the car's idiosyncrasies...

Before anyone provides the blanket advice of "Take it to the dealer and have it repaired/adjusted under warranty", note that the noise is pretty subtle -- So subtle in fact that I might feel embarrassed to point it out to anyone else in the context of a warranty claim. But I have no doubt it's there, and it definitely bothers me. (I mentioned in another thread that I'm just OCD like that.) Actually, the other concern I have is that they might make some kind of adjustment that causes the wind noise to be the same both all the the way up and a hair down, but that the new uniform noise level is the louder noise level and not the quieter one. As it is now I at least have a prayer of demonstrating the noisier state due to the readily-reproducible delta, but if they make the window slightly more noisy in every state I don't think I'd have a leg to stand on in trying to have it looked into further.

Passed by my dealer on the way home today, knowing I didn't have more than 30 minutes to do some investigating... Found out Hyundai moved two buildings over in the same complex - the old Hyundai building is now a Kia. When I asked their salesman what happened, he tried to get me to look at a sporty blue Optima. BEAUTIFUL CAR. When I told him I was interested in a Genesis, he said, "Wow... are you a doctor, or a lawyer?" And then he made the universal finger rubbing sign for "money". I told him no, and smiled, and he asked, "Manager?" I politely thanked him for informing me of the new Hyundai location, and set off.

Went inside, and played with a 4.6 for about 20 minutes. More on that in a bit. I then asked the salesman for a test drive tomorrow at 4pm. He said I could take out both the 3.8 and the 4.6, or even the one in the showroom. This other guy comes over and says, "Tomorrow? It's supposed to be a downpour!" Not sure why he was discouraging me from coming in and driving the car. Whatever.

Checked out the 2011's on the lot on my way out - between my two favorites (Titanium and Black), I think I'm really leaning towards the black for now. TITANIUM OWNERS: Is the paint on your grille Titanium or Silver? I noticed a slight difference between the grille color and the hood/bumper - the grille was definitely a shade lighter. That was probably the only thing keeping me from just getting a black over the titanium. If they're still different, regardless, I'll lean towards black.

As for the one inside, I noticed straight away that none of the electronics were working in the car, nor did the trunk pop when the button was pushed. I figured someone kept the lights on all day and drained the battery. The salesman agreed.

Impressions (even though I've sat in one a whole bunch of times before):

The interior is GORGEOUS. Very good materials, much nicer than my top-of-the-line-at-the-time Passat GLX 4Motion. The seats were buttery and delicious. Sooooo comfortable. The car is very spacious - made the Optima feel like a Civic - and with the driver's seat in position (for me), I then sat in the back. I had a good foot and a half in front of my knee! I leaned back all the way, and thought I could take a good nap back there on a long trip if needed. XD

The buttons were not extraordinary, but they didn't feel cheap either. I think the steering wheel will grow on me - I remember it being less classy than the rest of the interior, but not so on this visit. I quite liked the feel of the wheel - and the size. It's smaller than my VW's.

The center console is unusually cramped, but all the materials on the center console are gorgeous. Very well done. The leather on the dash was a bit harder than I expected, which is a good thing in the long run - soft will damage much easier. And it looks the part, which is nice.

The wood trim on the doors is very plasticy to the touch, but look nice. The rear of this car is just amazingly done - really really spacious, vents in the center AND sides are a welcome and unexpected amenity at this price range.

I am buying this car this summer. Pretty sure I'll be picking up an R spec, unless dealers try to gouge us on price. If they do, I think my next choice is the '12 4.6 - probably won't take a premium like the 5.0, but who knows right now...

If I hadn't seen the '12's, honestly, I'd probably be driving an '11 home tomorrow night. They are that good.

Now... my itch is even worse!!!!!

Took my wife to see the 300C today and had a terrible experience at the dealership that was about 30 miles from home. What a joke! For a number of reasons, the Chrysler has fallen out of grace with us. Rode by a Hyundai dealership and on a whim, made a stop. Very nice salesman allowed us to take an '11 4.6 out for a spin. Wife and I loved as was expected and proceeded to get a quote. Dude wanted $40K so I passed and and will now go to a local dealer and begin serious negotiations for a black on black. They have no idea when the '12's will arrive and suggested that Hyundai is just stringing folks along just to generate some excitement. Certainly the car will be out by the fall but I want a car now and am willing to forgo a few extras to save some bucks. We shall see.

After 23,000 + miles on our 2011 4.6 we love it more everyday. (we did have a 2004 Acura) Everyone at my wife's office in Atlanta loves the Genesis. One of her workers told her he wish he had a "chariot" like her's.

on the '12. i would wait a year. that new trans will most likely have some bugs in it for a bit. that's just my opinion. i also believe they will mark up the '12 a bit and be much less likely to negotiate down while there's still '11's out there so waiting a year or so you will save quite a bit of frustration and $$$. best of luck

Exactly my point. As much as I would love the '12, I really do not want to wait. The 4.6/6 speed has been proven reliable and relatively trouble free. I think I read somewhere on this forum that in testing, the '12 had some vibration and harshness issues. Obviously power train related. Surely it will be ironed out but I am looking at saving some money and getting into the car within next couple of weeks. The quoted $40K was a bit high so will try and move it down to $37K. May even be satisfied at $38K.

Tom, shop around... you can probably knock that down to the $36k range if you combine the current rebates with what other folks are paying.

BankofAmericaZag.com - I priced one in the high $36k range here... it will even tell you which dealership to pick it up in (should be within driving range of where you live, since you're close to NYC, as am I).

Good luck - sitting in the '11 today really has me at my wit's end -- I want an R spec really bad, but you just can't pass up a deal like a $36k '11 4.6! That's twice the car I have now, for a couple grand more than I paid 10 years ago.

INSANE. Keep us posted.

Sorry for hijacking your post, but I *FINALLY* test drove my first Genesis today!

Miguel over at Danbury Hyundai was good enough to bring me a Titanium 2011 V6 (black interior). Beautiful color, but just as the 2010 V8 I saw on the lot the previous day, the grille is DEFINITELY a lighter shade of gray than the rest of the car. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the grill piece is plastic, versus the sheet metal and bumper materials? Not sure there. Regardless, not a huge deal, really - still looked amazing.

INTERIOR: I got inside, and noticed the seats were a bit stiffer than the V8 I sat in the day before. Not really much of a difference, to be honest - though BOTH were very soft and comfy as compared to my current car. The all-leather-no-faux-wood steering wheel was actually really nice. I may hold off on an aftermarket solution if I choose the R spec, though I should be ordering the winged airbag at some point (would like to have it installed by the dealer when I buy the car). The rest of the car really wasn't any different than the V8 - very very nice.

THE RIDE: WOW. Impressed. That's the best way to describe the 2011 V6's ride. I took the car on my daily commute route, and really let her have it in the WORST POTHOLE/UNEVEN PATCH OF ROAD in my town (which I unfortunately ride on every weekday). The suspension took the brunt of the potholes, and the car felt solid and smooth through it. Cornering on the V6 was really good also, though I didn't want to push it because it was raining out. Overall, this is definitely the nicest-riding car I've ever driven, and I test-drove a 528 about 10 years ago. Yep... that good. Pick-up was also pretty good - not sure it felt like 290 HP, but it was more powerful than my 190 HP VW, that's for sure. Good throttle response, and excelent brakes were also apparent to me. A definite step-up from my aging German ride.

=====

Once I got back to the dealership, I asked Miguel to bring over the V8. He brought out the previous car's older, more experienced, more refined sister. Also Titanium/Black.

INTERIOR: Inside, it was the same exact thing as the Saddle V8 I sat in for 20 minutes the day before - but I definitely like the "black" better (I say it quotes, 'cause it truly looks like a charcoal gray interior to me, especially outside and during the day). The steering wheel wood trim didn't add much (in my opinion) as compared to the V6's wheel. The seats were definitely more buttery though. VERY VERY SOFT, very comfortable... definitely improved from the V6.

THE RIDE: Miguel came for the ride, and I noticed right away that the center LCD display looked "older" than the V6's. He confessed that this particular V8 was indeed a "leftover 2010 model". Caught. Regardless, the ride was very nice indeed. The power of the V8 was definitely more noticeable, and the hum of the exhaust was much prettier than the V6's. I'm not sure I could "feel" 95 extra ponies, but the difference is pretty apparent if you pay attention. Which I did. I also noticed the stiffer, sportier handling on the V8 - I pointed it out to Miguel, who had only taken out the Genny on one other occasion - I clearly knew more about the car than he did (stop selling all those Elantras, Miguel!) Same circuit used - very similar results - A BIG OL' SMILE ON MY FACE. :D

Halfway through the test drive, I pulled over and asked if he could drive us back. I then sat in the right rear seat - I had to feel the alleged "stiffness/harshness" for myself. I made sure the return leg was through the worst of the roads I use daily. I know every single bump on that road, so the comparison couldn't have been more accurate.

The V8 performed admirably. I don't find the suspension on the V8, even in the backseat, hard at all! If anything, it's way more forgiving than my Passat's. That car FEELS like a sports suspension car, but not a sports sedan (not sure if that makes sense). Compared to the 3rd row of my wife's Odyssey van (which I love and drive on the weekends), this back seat was heavenly. Not harsh. Myth busted (for me).

Pulled back into the dealership, sat at Miguel's desk long enough to tell him that a) I wasn't buying anything this day, b) definitely wouldn't buy a thing without the boss present (right? right???) and c) I was interested in what he knew on the availability of the 2012's.

He told me he didn't know. I wasn't surprised. Then he asked his manager, who looked at me, and gave him an answer, the sound obscured by the manager's office glass wall. He came back and told me, "my boss said sometime this fall".

I laughed and assumed his "estimate" was just a ploy to get me to buy his leftover 2010 V8. For the right price, I actually would consider it, but not before I get a look at the 2012's for myself.

Key takeaway - I went into this leaning HEAVILY into the V8; after this test drive, I can honestly say that the two cars are REALLY REALLY similar for 95% of normal daily driving. If you want to save a bunch of cash, you are not really missing a lot for the added mattress cushioning you get in return. I was actually very surprised by how good the V6 is. And with the GDI making 43 extra horsies this summer/fall/whenever... it's gonna make that choice even harder for folks - I think the 4.6 is gonna take a hit in sales, as folks will likely choose one of the other two instead.

Long story short, the Hyundai Genesis is my next automobile. The year and number on the rear tailgate are the only variables left for me to fill in.

:)
