Sorry if this has already been discussed, but after reading some threads I'm getting rather confused as to which trim with which packages gets which navigation.

So the question is, V8 has the only option - tech package, does that one include touchscreen navi or not? Thanks!

what does then? v6+premium+navi?

also if anyone who owns v8 chimes in whether they are missing the touch screen or not - that would be appreciated. I drive an Acura TSX 2004, the first year model when they equipped it with a touch screen. The following year models were all but one non-touch screens. Does it make any difference? Is touch screen the only option that is missing?

I've been trying to sort this out myself. Looks to me like the touch screen navigation is standard on the non Tech 4.6 and it is an option on the 3.8 (premium navi).

However, I haven't found a photo of the 2010 base 4.6 that shows the touch nav screen. All the photos in the brochure seem to be of the tech package.

I thought I would go for the tech package mostly because I wanted navigation but given the price difference I'm now thinking about either the base 4.6 or the 3.8 with premium nav. Savings is considerable ($3500 with either model) though you do give up the xenon, and a few other nice features (that I really don't need).

The photos of the new Genesis Coupe and 2011 Sonata show the touch screen navi which I think is slightly smaller (6.5 vs 8 inches). I just cannot figure out if that is exactly what is in the base 4.6/premium navi 3.8 or whether it is mounted differently than in the coupe.

2010 sedan models:
3.8 base = no nav
3.8 premium = no nav
3.8 premium nav = touchscreen nav
3.8 tech = DIS/Lexicon (knob controller)
4.6 base = touchscreen nav
4.6 tech = DIS/Lexicon (knob controller)

So, do the 4.6 base and the 3.8 premium nav have the DIS controller at all or are all radio controls and other functions of DIS controlled by the touch screen as well? Anyone have a photo of the dash and console where the DIS and TECH nav screen would be on the 4.6 base or 3.8 prem nav? Neither varient is on the lot at my local dealer and I'm just wondering what the interior layout is without the TECH package but with touch screen nav.

3.8 tech has the DIS knob no touch screen NAV

To further confirm, the 2010 with Tech does not have touch. I thought this would be an issue, but in my subjective opinion, it appears to be much easier to operate with the knob.

No DIS controller. Here are the screenshots of the touchscreen nav: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=4893

I second that opinion. I, too, thought that touch screen would be easier, but after getting used to the DIS knob, it's VERY convenient to navigate through menus.
Plus, you don't have to lean forward to touch the actual screen. You can just relax in your seat and easily control it with the knob.
I don't miss the touch screen one bit.

Really? I thought all of them were touch screen for 2010. I have an Audi A4 2006 and it has a knob(no touchscreen) and it is annoying to me as I rather prefer the touchscreen. The knob is frustrating when putting in addresses because I have to do each and every letter. I also have a G35 2007 and that has both a knob and touchscreen(which I thought was the situation for Tech Pack) and I thought it was neat and cool. Well I will make sure to get the non tech pack because I really want the touchscreen when I buy a Genesis. I am waiting for deals or for 2011 to come and pick up a 2010 when it gets cheap. Are the premium navigation and tech package both same navigation but one with touchscreen and one with the knob. Is that the only difference for the navigation?

I agree that it's a little slow when inputting address with the knob.
It'd be great to have both the knob and touch screen.

If you do a little search, you'll get to know that the tech package and premium nav systems are a different unit.
Premium nav is developed by Hyundai while the DIS system(tech pack) is designed by Harman International.
Without the tech pack, though, you lose other functions such as adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, Lexicon 7.1 Discrete sound system, cooled driver's seat, etc.
I would recommend you test drive both and see for yourself.

DIS screen is a lot bigger too.

2010 definitely has two different nav models, one with the knob (Technology Package) and one without a knob (touchscreen, in the 4.6 base and 3.8 with Premium Navigation option). I sat in a 2010 Tech 3.8 in the showroom this morning, and it definitely had the knob controller.

They're two different systems. The one in the Technology Package is from Harman/Becker and the touchscreen one appears to be the one that's internally developed and offered on other Hyundai vehicles.

The knob is not that bad, but the system has an annoying software issue that makes it much easier to enter addresses via voice command than by the DIS knob.

I suspect, but am just guessing, that Hyundai will do something different for the 2011 or 2012 model year on the Genesis sedan, possibly a Microsoft-integrated system.

Having two different Navi systems is very confusing to most people who don't already own a Genesis. (Its even confusing to some of us who do own one).

Although I have the Tech on my 2009 4.6, if I were going to buy a 2010 4.6, I think I would just opt for the standard package. The extra things you get with the 2010 Tech don't mean much to me, (adaptive cruise control, headlights that go side to side when turning [but only if car is moving, now while standing still or going very slow] electronic parking brake, etc.) and the touch screen Navi unit on the standard 4.6 can be updated very easy by buying a new disc. Those of us with the 2009 Tech package Navi still have not been able to update our units that are loaded with early 2008 maps, and once we can get them updated, the discs belong to the dealer, and take three hours to update. With the standard DVD Navi on the 2010, you buy the disc, it belongs to you, and it takes as long as it takes to remove the old disc and install the new disc. On my previous Lincoln, that was about three MINUTES, not three hours.

To me, tech package was one of the major selling points.
Discrete audio system was first on the list, along with the active headlights.
It's not just the swivel function that I like. HID is a must have for me.
I've had cars with HIDs in the past, and honestly, I CAN'T stand halogen lights.
Some may argue to retro-fit an HID kit into halogen housings, but it's an illegal, unproper way of putting in brighter system into a housing that are not engineered to work with it.

Parking sensors are definitely nice to have, didn't care too much about the rear camera but once I got used to, it's a very neat feature.

I have an '09, so ACC and electronic parking brake was not included. Even then I thought it was worth it, now with the '10 I think it's a no-brainer.

First, without the touch screen the navagation system is not worth $10. With out this feature the sysren is very cumbersome.

Second, If it has voice recognition it might be worth $20 but I don't know yet and the dealer did not know either. They are calling me back. Does anyone know if it has voice recognition for the nav on the 4.6 tech?

I would not have bought the car even though it seems the value is there otherwise. The Nav system is too important to me.

Prior to my purchase of a 2010 V8 with tech, I had a TomTom portable. I have used the Genny with voice recognition and find it easier than the touch screen of the TomTom. I recently used the Genny on a MLS house drive by looking up over 50 addresses and hardly had any problems. Once in a while Genny couldn't recognize my instructions and after two attempts, I just had to spell it out verbally. Worked like a charm. Forget the touch screen, you will love it!

Of course it does.
Why DID you buy the car if there was any doubt and it's that important?

First: Read your manuals they will answer your questions.

Second: You should not be complaining about the car you purchased which you did not do your homework on and know all features/options details about the car prior to purchase. After all the car retails for over 43,000.00 and most of us watch what we spend our money on when its gets into the tens of thousands of dollars. I for one love the navigation/DIS system. The Genesis system is much better than the touch screen on our previous car, an Acura.

i've had numerous touchscreen factorynav units and thought the DIS would be a downgrade> i couldn't believe how wrong i was. i love the DIS now that i have used it for a few days. it controls the radio, phone, nav. i HATED all the fingerprints on the screen of my Denali, Yukon, Sierra.

PS, if you buy an '11 with a V8 you have the tech pkg.
