In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec - Click above for high-res image gallery

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan is hitting dealer lots as you read this, and pricing has officially been set at $34,200, not including $850 for destination and delivery. The facelifted Genesis four-door was unveiled at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, and though it received a minor facelift and some other small interior changes, the big news for the 2012 model year is what's under the hood.

That $34,200 price point corresponds to the base Genesis 3.8 sedan, which now uses a direct-injected 3.8-liter V6, rated at 333 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque - gains of 43 and 27, respectively, versus the 2011 model. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is also on tap, meaning the Genesis 3.8 will achieve up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

Moving up in the range, the Genesis 4.6 - $44,500 - also gets an eight-speed automatic transmission, though its V8 engine remains largely unchanged. Power ratings carry over from 2011 - 385 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque.

The 4.6 used to be the range-topping Genesis, but for 2012, Hyundai has introduced the new 5.0 R-Spec model, which, as its name suggests, is fitted with the automaker's brand new 5.0-liter direct-injected V8. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Tau 5.0 is good for 429 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, while still returning 16/25 mpg city/highway. The R-Spec model also features unique 19-inch wheels, sportier suspension tuning and more aggressive appearance updates. The top-shelf Genesis retails for $46,500.

These look like "starting at" prices to me.. No?

2012 GENESIS MANUFACTURERS SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICING:

I'm curious to see if the R-Spec is going to be fully tricked out with all the options (top of the line as-is) like the tech package is now, or if that price will climb with options.

No, for example the 2011 4.6 has no options. I'm not seeing any for the R either.
But this was the confusing part to me:
"The top-shelf Genesis retails for $46,500."

Though the headline says 'starts at'.

That's because you DO get an option on the 5.0 - the upgraded tires ($1,400 package). Way too pricey for an "upgrade" - you could get the same tires for $500 less elsewhere, and still keep the OEMs for the winter!

That's why it says "starting at". That and of course, you can buy dealer options with all these cars. ;)

FYI - there is no optional equipment on the 4.6 - that's disappointing to me... I had hoped at least the 19" wheels would be available as an upgrade - alas... no.

And yes... they FINALLY updated that page I've been tracking for months: http://hyundainews.com/Media_Kits/2012_Models/Genesis/Pricing.asp

Now I'm REALLY confused. I thought the "s" after this meant standard, not optional:
19-inch Premium Machined Finish alloy wheels with P235/45R19 tires S
At this point, I'll see things your way!
;)

The upgraded tires are summer-rubber!

And a little wider too:

P245/40R19 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Summer Tires O

According to the Tire Rack website those optional Michelin tires are between $1100 and $1300 per set plus freight, mounting and balancing so as an option the Hyundai price is not that far out of line. These 2012 prices are what were suggested back when the 5.0 R spec was formally announced. I think that the hint was that the V8 models would be between $45k and $49k. Seems that is where they are. The 4.6 being the best deal as it is now only $1500 more than a 3.8 Tech.

See... I disagree. You still don't get to keep the OEM tires, so why buy from Hyundai, even at the same price?

I won't disagree with your value statement, as I believe the current 4.6 is indeed a BARGAIN compared to the current 3.8. However, I will say that the new 3.8 has closed that value gap SIGNIFICANTLY with the GDI engine.

I believe you posted the pictures of someone in Korea who had replaced the lights in their car with the 2012 lights. I am thinking that I may do the same but am curious that with the US cars now getting the DRL's , changing out the head lights may not be possible. It would be nice if we could get the DRL's to work in our cars but I do not know if that will be possible.
There was a time when I would trade out of a car after a year ownership but I think I am a little wiser today but if my dealer would make me a good enough offer I may trade for a 2012 4.6. Right now I am thinking I will just go for the tail lights and maybe the head lights if possible.

only way i would trade out is up to an R Spec but i though about it and i don't think it's worth it. '09, 10, 11, 12? gotta figure there will be a major redesign in less than 3 more years. remember how they changed the last version of the sonata with a "refresh" and the BAM!! new car next year..

The next upgrade to the car, which will probably be the next complete re-do of the car, will include features like AWD, folding rear seats, etc.. I have a 2011, and I would not trade up to get the 2012 R-Spec; I'd rather wait for the next generation Genesis with those (and other) upgrades since that is going to be one nice ride, and with the last few differentiating features from other luxury sport sedans.

I am already considering trading in my 09 Genesis for a 2012 V8 or the r-spec,but not until I test drive the freakin wheels off it this time. If I feel they have not improved the suspension then Im outta here. Cant wait to get one on the road.

That's right, IMHO it doesn't make sense to trade for a few nice features and fancy LED lights (for current owners) unless you have $ to burn. Better to wait until a major overhaul and most likely an AWD option in 2014.
Those that don't have one and can't wait to, well that's another story!

+1. No point in taking the Hyundai summer tire option if going R-Spec.

I have a 2009 4.6 Tech, and I agree we're getting close to a redesign so I would not consider upgrading at this point....especially with no AWD option. My Genny is just fine as is and will surely hold me over for another couple of years. Would it be nice to get a new R-Spec...hell yes, but it's just not worth the $10K I would probably lose to do it. I'm not a money-is-no-object buyer so to me the smart move is to hang on for a few more years....while enjoying my 2009 Genny that still gets looks and nods.

There are some tire dealers that will give you a good price in trade for your OEM tires on a different tire, the key is to make the trade before you put
500 miles on the tires. Check around to see what tire dealers may allow you to trade your tires.

it's like a win win for all of us really. we have a great car. those that want a new one get the same car with a few nice upgrades and "we" will be in a good position for the overhaul in '14. AWD would be a great feature, especially if they take a cue from ferrari's new AWD system. awesome, rides off the crank and has 2 speeds, just enough traction to handle the wet and light snow
