bluetooth phone sound quality

After 4 months with my 2010 3.8 using 2 paired bluetooth phones, I recently had somebody ask me why sometimes when I called them the sound was crystal clear, and other times it sounded very crackly or like it was raining hard on the car (on a clear, sunny day).

Given that the sound was always clear on the phone in the car, I'd never asked how I sounded on the other end, so this was a surprise.

After some playing and a process of elimination, I've determined that my wife's fairly basic Nokia phone sounds great to people on the other end, but my Blackberry sounds like crap! I tried 3 different Blackberries (2 older "Curve" models and my latest "Bold" model), and all sounded lousy to the caller on the other end. While "regular" bluetooth cell phones that my wife and my daughter have sounded "like you're right in the same room".

Has anybody else experienced this issue? If so any fixes? The Blackberry is standard in our business for many reasons (email etc), as it is in many companies, so swapping it for another cell or carrying a second cell doesn't make sense...nor should I have to.

Who knows, maybe there are a bunch of us with Blackberries that assumed as I did that the sound quality on the other end was as good as the sound in the car.

I've used Nokia phones, and have had a good experience. No one ever mentioned any quality problems on the other end. The only thing someone ever said was that they could hear their own voice because I had the volume too loud and the Mic was picking up the sound out of the speakers. Now I don't turn the volume up as much, and problem solved.

I have a 2010 4.6 . Have had a problem from day one with people complaining of an "echo" when I call from the car with the bluetooth. I have an apple 3 GS. This problem happens ALL the time. Service rep said he never heard of the problem. So far just living with it. Anyone else have this problem??:

I have a iphone 3GS too -- and I get complaints about an "echo" when I call folks from the car but no complaints of any sort when I receive (answer) calls. it is weird.

In some cars the "crackling" sound can be caused by by A/C or heat blower speeds causing wind noise in the mike. Try turning down the blower to see if it clears up the problem.

I have a Verizon Blackberry 8830 "World Mode" phone, so it's an older model. People have consistently commented on how clear my phone sounds they can't believe I'm in my car. Admittedly I don't have the tech package, just a base model 3.8, so I think it uses a different bluetooth setup, but it works great with my Blackberry.

In my 2009 we use 2 LG Voyagers and an older LG VX8600 with no problems and excellent sound quality (on Verizon) per our called/calling parties.

The picture I'm getting here is that there is a definite large variance in output sound quality by make of phone. I wonder if the carrier has some of the sound quality issues? One of my sons has a 3g iphone (obviously with AT&T) and he complains constantly about poor reception and sound quality. The quality of his sound when he calls us is not good.

I suspect that your Hyundai dealers will have not have much in the way of helping this issue.

I have an iPhone and my calls are clear... no echo. Try turning down the volume as others have mentioned. On a side note, some cellphones are notorious for having an echo when the speakerphone function is being used... same concept, the mic picks up the sound from the speaker.

I haven't had any problems with the Bluetooth quality while using my iPhone in my Genesis. I agree with most of posters in here that overall quality depends on the incoming call itself, i.e, the call as it goes through the cell system.

Can't comment on the crackling, other than use something other than a Blackberry.

As for the Echo, this has nothing to do with the car, but with either your cell phone, or the receiving cell phone, or more likely, one or both of the cell carriers.

I get the echo only ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE, on all three of my cell phones, even when not in the car on bluetooth. It happens with both of my (Motorola) V-400's which are not bluetooth capable, and on my (Motorola) SLVR L9 which is bluetooth capable.
Very seldom will get the echo, but it does happen.

It is possible that some phones have a setting unchecked or somthing when hooked up to a bluetooth connection. See if your phone mic is still functioning when you use the bluetooth connection. If so, see if you can turn it off, or cover it with your thumb and speak into the car mic.

Good advice.
BT phone call quality is phone-dependent most of the time.
When we tune our product for handsfree functionality, we make sure the test phone has all the echo cancellation and other features turned off.

I have an iPhone 3G(non-S), and none of my friends complained about the sound quality.

My wife went through like four blackberrys. The only one that that did not drop calls and sound terrible was /is the curve. We had three Blackberrys that if you turn the phone upside down in our house there was no signal yet with my phone (same provider) I have at least three bars. Avoid the Blackberry Bold at all cost, it sucked the worst.

You might want to check the compatibility list for your Bluetooth system to see if Tourch is listed.

I just got a Nexus S with Android 2.3 but have not been able to pair with the Genesis 2011 3.6 Premium. The bluetooth worked fine with the Iphone 3s.
Anyone been able to connect with the Nexus?

My last 2 blackberries Curve 2 and Bold both had terrible sound quality over BT in my previous Maxima. I switched to Android about a year ago and it was much better.
I think as these complex in-car systems get more advanced they tend to reveal the shortcomings of some phones.
The system in the Genny is very clear. I gen mo complaints from Hot-Wife who used to always complain about the sound quality on her end. None so far with the Genny.
