  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I cringe at the thought of the responses I'm likely to get to this question and fully expect to have a "Duh!" moment, but here goes. I just bought an '09 Genny 3.8 with nav, and I'm curious why I get an incessant dinging sound when I turn the car off and open the door. I've concluded it has it has something to do with the key as it does not happen when the smart key is in the smart key holder. It seems like its a warning to remove the key from the vehicle but as I understand it, the vehicle cannot be locked with the key inside so I'm curious why I need to be warned. I seldom use the smart key holder and find this extremely annoying. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Are you opening the door before you shut off the car? That may be the problem:confused:

On my 2009, if I open the door too soon after engine shuts off, I get the ding, and also my iPod is more likely to reset, instead of picking up where it left off. I just wait about one second to open the door after the engine shuts off to avoid this.

I get the same indication. If I open the door quickly after turning the ignition off or especially if I open it Before I turn off the ignition, I get the dinging. Evidently the computer is going through some shutdown procedure and if you interrupt it, it dings. If you just get out of the car and shut the door, the dinging stops and everything seems normal. Not really a problem.

My wifes elantra does that when the lights are in not off or in auto, I think.

The car will also complain if you leave a fob in the car and try to lock it.

My '09 3.8 premium will ding if I open the door before the steering wheel stops lifting out of the way.
