If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 spotted on the lots!

my dealer still has none. i am driving an '11 3.8 with a premium pkg only 700 miles on it and dealer plates till mine is done at the body shop (fixing a scratch from new). they do only have 6 left 3 v8 and 3 v6.

Drove by my dealer last night - he still has 7 left on the lot: three 2011's, three 2010's and one 2009!

Still not 2012's though. Didn't even bother asking, 'cause they'll just try to get me into those older models.

These older models are all new? yikes !

my regional manager told me today, that we will have 6 cylinder in two weeks, followed by 8 cylinder. Rspec will be the last to arrive, 1st week of August. We are in the Chicago area....

My dealer told me that their cars come in from the West Coast port of entry. Seven Genesis 3.8 at the Port have been allocated to my dealer and they expect to have the cars in three weeks. They had no information as to when they would see the 4.6 or R Spec.

I called the person listed below and he said the ride quality on non r-spec is greatly improved for 2012 over various speeds & surfaces. He currently is in Las Vegas at a Hyundai function where he has driven the r-spec and non r-spec versions.

He said the r-spec is extremely "buttoned down" and has a stiff ride as designed. He said there were 24 r-specs there at the convention.
But the majority of allocations will be non r-spec's for this year with only approx. 1500 for MY 2012. So basically if you must have a r-spec he said to get on a list. Also stated possible local availability towards the end of June or early July when asked.

Asked about getting a "deal" he said that is up to the dealer but paying sticker is more than likely the reality. He was very nice but I think an e-mail would have been better as he was busy, non the less he knew tons more than any local dealer or for that matter contact numbers on Hyundai's own website. Hope this info helps those of us yearning for a new toy as I am.

Yep - these are all NEW. When I test drove the V6 and V8 last time, the guy got in and said, "yeah, we don't sell a lot of these usually..."

XD

not to insult your intellignece but what did you expect him to say when you ask "is the ride improved on the new ones?" what choice does he have? A) tell you "we changed a few things here and there you should notice an improvment blah blah blah" leaving you a little concerned and possibly turned off or B) pump it up to be the cats meow.. i think "B" is proper given he is a high level employee of a corporation who probably was half wondering if your call was a company hired by Hyundai (all major companies do this to check their employees are being responsible representing their products). Lets see what the independant mags say and our resders before we "swear out the demons" lol

on another note, i just checked BOA site and they '12's listed but the '12 V8 is THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS MORE than the '11's....wow

I guess that depends on what you mean by minor. The changes to each part (shock, springs, etc) may be minor, but the parts still need to be replaced to get the 2012 suspension.

Not sure what the Equus has to do with it, since it has a totally different adjustable air suspension.

Mark you seem to have allot of info, maybe you can tell me what Michelin Tire Hyundai put on the 2012 Genesis 18" wheels. I know the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Summer tire is on the 19" wheels of the R Spec but they do not state what Michelin tire is on the 18" wheels

I believe that when Hyundai saw what a difference the ride quality of a 19" wheel with a Grand Touring Tire made opposed to a Ultra High Performance Tire they not only put Grand Touring's on the Equus but they may have put Grand Tourings on the 2012 3.8 and 4.6 with 18" wheels, make a few changes to the suspension and presto a better riding car. I know just removing the OEM Ultra High Performance Tires from my car has greatly improved the ride. Even with the air suspension on the Equus a 19" wheel with Ultra High Performance tires would not have given the better ride you would get with a Grand Touring Tire.

According to this post: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=72199&postcount=56

It might be the Energy Saver although that's classified as a passenger tire, not a grand touring tire. Can anyone confirm what tires are on the 2012's?

Thank you, I am thinking the Michelin Energy Saver A/S or Michelin HX mxm4 both of which will give a better ride than the Dunlop Ultra High Performance Tires. I have the Michelin Energy Saver A/S on my car and I really like them, the tires do a good job of absorbing the impact you get when traveling over rough pavement.

Sorry, I don't the answer to that one. But I have recently purchased new Michelin tires for my Genesis and did some research on them. Most of the top Michelins use very sophisticated tread compounds (sometimes multiple componds in different places in the tread) to get a smooth and comfortable ride, while at the same time having excellent handling.

In general, even though almost all of the top-of-line Michelins are quiet and have a good smooth ride, the very smoothest ones are NOT the energy savers, since they are designed to have better rolling resistance and are a little stiffer. Probably the Michelin's with the best ride are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (for Genesis 17" or 18" wheels with Y speed rating) and the Michelin Primacy MXV4 (for Genesis 17" wheels in V or H rating).

However, the most expensive Michelin Energy Saver tires probably do have a better ride than many non-energy saver type tires from brands other than Michelin.

I chose the Michelin Primacy MXV4 becasue I have 17" wheels and I came to the judgement (based on reviews, published research, etc) that they had a little softer ride than the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus.

If I had a 2012 Genesis, I might go for the Michelin Energy Savers, but I need a little help from my tires.

I used Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my car and when I changed to Continental DWS I noticed a much softer ride without sacrificing handling. Maybe you guys should try those out if you need some cushion.

I have the Michelin Energy Saver A/S 235-50-18 97 V and I can tell you from experience that IMO they ride much softer than the Continental Extreme DWS, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus , Michelin Pilot HX mxm4 and performance and handling dry and wet is very good. We have the Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 on our Malibu, IMO it is not as soft as the Michelin Energy Saver A/S but this tire is far from stiff.

I believe that's a marketing video produced by Hyundai.....

i agree but that license plate area on the overseas versions really changed the way the rear end came out (imo) the overseas version looks "right" the US version's smaller plate area really changed how i felt once i saw these pics today. and i really dislike the taillights. look like "eyes" lol makes you wonder if the original design didn't incorporate the clear part of the lens design to meet the chrome lip on the trunk lid or it was just coincidental?? the new ones don't have any corresponding feature linking it to the chrome trunk lid molding like the original design?

what a pita i am. can you put a pic of the US spec and overseas spec next to each other?
I really do not care for the white eye brow on the head lights. IMO it takes away from the car, I can not see the purpose for it.

if it is, it's a fairly lame editing attempt with the camera angles and all. Lacks voice and description for what is on the screen, or at least music.

either way, better than nothing.
