I just got a call from the dealer that one R-spec is available.
The MSRP is $48k due to tire option (+$1400) but the dealer said they are doing a special $5000 off (I don't know what exactly) that brings down to around $43k. I just checked the circle price and it seems dead-even. I would've bought it today in an instant if it wasn't for the color though.
At least I will be able to test drive it sometime this week
Please RangePro give us a detailed driving impressions? Also Junkie49 when you test drive the car as well. Below is my recent review:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems all initial distros of 2012 genesis sedan R-Spec's in ILLINOIS so far are all black exterior. And of course I want silver platinum metalic lol. Please everyone share your test drive impressions as well.
I test drove a local black genesis 2012 sedan r-spec today. The salesman let me drive on smooth roads and some really really bad back roads. My impressions were:
1) The most tight car with no negligible body flex I have ever been in = very solid.
2) The most quiet car I have ever been inside of at speed.
3) The engine had notably much more power than the 2011 V8 I test drove 2 months ago.
4) Going over the really really bad roads was still very quiet... But way too much vibration was transmitted into the cabin and even the steering
wheel vibrated and shook just as much. This being said this car is NOT for anyone seeking a smooth ride over bad roads period as you will cry to your momma and on this forum 24/7/365. BUT if the percentage of road surfaces you drive on are decent and lets face it most are except for bad back roads then I would say give it a try and test drive it yourself.
5) The 8 speed trans shifted effortlessly and smooth as silk. There was a lag when you put your right foot into it alot during passing but it is a self learning adjusting trans so this will improve over time.
6) Love the super new GDI engine!! To do what it does and be smooth and quiet is simply amazing! No I am not one of those boy racers or automotive press reviewers that feed off overly loud testosterone laden exhaust notes. No one needs to hear me comming, but instead only be seen thru my rear view mirror lol.
7) The steering on regular roads is tight and very responsive & quick to driver input. Going around corners if you hit the throttle to much the engine being so powerful will engage the ESC. So use care as this is not a your grandpa's ride...
Summary:
In my case I LOVE this car despite the suspension jack hammer vibrations over really bad roads at speed. The rock song by AC DC "You shook me all night long" fits well for this vehicle over really bad roads. Considering there are so many pluses and fantastic greats with this car than this one complaint that will only happen once in a great while, I have no second thoughts about getting one ASAP once my color choice arrives.
PS: I did not check the tire pressure which admittedly could be a big factor.
And the salesman did say they are shipped usually at 50psi because they are strapped down for shipment and something about the reason for high psi is to keep the tires from setting or becomming unproportional.
We also talked about the sound system issue with power going off and he said he has seen that happen and hopes Hyundai fixes this electronic bug via service bulliten if they have not already. I did read a fix for this on the forums here as follows if it happens to you: Hold the left power button on the stereo head unit in until the sound system reboots. OR Shut car off for 3 minutes then restart. You can search the forums here for additional info as needed.
I used to have a 1992 corvette it had 300hp. And over the same bad roads it was much worse than the r-spec. But as a Genesis luxury sedan I as well we all do, are all tougher on this type of car when it comes to ride quality as we expect a good luxury ride as it is not a "true sports car". Anyone want an air adjustable supsension like many other cars have in this price range? I know if it were an 500.00 to 1500.00 dollar option it would be worth it to me. I know the Equus has this but is not within the price range I am currently looking at. The 2013 non r-spec Genesis Sedan will have the new GDI V8, but I cannot wait year after year waiting for the next best thing or else there will never be a new car in my garage.
There is nothing like this currently on the market for power, refinement, style, price, warranty period. I look forward to loving this car like a good friend for years to come. Using zag.com or circle pricing with motozuma.com will put a smile upon your face at the check out counter.
