Yeah, its definitely going AGAINST the current trend. This is the largest, and the least fuel efficient vehicle in their line up. But during this economic downturn, its the only model in their line up that actually INCREASED sales. That alone tells you something how good this vehicle is.

I'm betting that as both the V6 & V8 become more available throughout the US the numbers will be getting much better! They probably have sold every single V8 that hits the shores thru Dec.

There is a Sterling Blue w/Black [no tech] sitting here in St. Pete that no one seems to want. Dealer has added Wing wheel caps and trunk Wings. Go figure.

I thought I read they had planned to produce 60,000 units the first year with 20% being 4.6's. That may be world production not sure.

I read in some articles that Hyundai expect to sell 8,000 Genesis in North America in 2008.

I was going to buy one, but WOW - this economy is trouble. Too risky to buy a new car if you're working for any company because layoffs will just get worse before it gets better. It WILL get better, but it'll be a nasty road to recovery.

I believe it was 50,000: 20,000 for the sedan, 30,000 for the coupe. This is global numbers.

It's not just that the economy is bad, it's that we're in a deflationary period. You could think of that two ways:

1) Goods are getting cheaper
2) The dollar is strengthening

Either way, buying a car right now is foolish. In the short-term, as the industry continues to contract, the deals will get better (and your cash will go further in almost every other market as well). Look at the 50-60% off deals Nissan and Ford were running on their 2008 inventory over the past few months, the fact that the credit market isn't getting any better (Citi collapse post-bailout), layoffs that will even hit government jobs soon, a US auto industry that will likely lose all of the big 3 as we know them - the list goes on, and on, and on. In short, I'd like a Genesis, but the bottom is yet to come and I'm happy to sit on the sideline as deflation takes it's toll.

And that 8.9% increase in sales? Let's not kid ourselves. Hyundai has been spending a fortune on advertising during that period (I don't think I was able to watch the NFL without drooling over about 10 Genesis commercials per game), V8s were just making their way to dealerships, and their comments on consumer confidence couldn't be further from the truth.
