  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is the Technology Package really worth it?

If you don't think you'll have a hard time learning how to use the Tech Package features, then go for it. If you have trouble with user interfaces in general, then you might not enjoy the tech package so much. For me it was a no brainer, super sound system, fun/useful gadgets, etc.

I went with the premium package on my '12 V-6 and I am very pleased with it. Also drove a Tech pkg model, it would also have worked, I just turned $$ cheap and thought the Premium fit our budget better.
Face it- - no matter if you go Premium or Tech, both are awesome. If Tech has some features you value, it would be a wise choice. ;)

Tech wasn't worth the price to me. I got premium/nav and am totally happy with it. The tech package just didn't include anything I care that much about. A lot of folks are really excited about the upgraded audio, but I listen mostly to NPR so it doesn't make any difference to me. I don't need fancy electronics because I very seldom use a cell phone (I have one for emergencies but only use it once or twice a year) or other such gadgets. I would have preferred not to have a sunroof but I couldn't get nav without it. So I have a sunroof that has never been, and will never be, opened. Hope it doesn't start leaking like a Lincoln I once had...

I passed on the tech package and went with the premium. Perhaps it was different in the past, but the 2012 premium package has a 14 speaker Lexicon stereo system, 7 inch navi and a backup camera (amongst other features).

I did not want the extra $100 a month added to my payment and feel the premium package gave an excellent bang for the buck.

I also like the clean look of the car without the parking assist sensors in the bumpers. I think the sensors detract aesthetically from the vehicle.

If money was no object, I would have purchased the tech package though.

i think you made a smart choice.
the premium pack has most of the important features. i'm not sure if the tech pack is worth $5000 but since i wanted the v8, i had no choice.

i hate waxing the sensor area as i have to go back with a small tool and get the wax out of the rings. sometimes the sensors go off when you're close, but not that close and startle the crap out of me lol.. my garage is a tight fit (due to two work benches on either side that's when it gets me) i do like the front ones though, no camera for that area. we've gotten very spoiled lol

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Absolutely yes it is worth it. Got it on my Genesis, and love the sound systerm and the other nice extras (like Adaptive Cruise Control).

Wow everyone! What great advice. I kind of knew the answer to the main question - "is it worth it" is only a question I can answer. However, not being able to actually sit in the car and put my hands on it, I really appreciate all of your input. I'm going to go for it! Like everyone here - I doubt I'll regret the choice. You guys are all awesome!

if you didn't get it you would have later wondered what it would've been like, it's not like you're going to say "jeez, i hate these parking sensors, i sure hate this 17 speaker stereo too" lol

good luck, enjoy and report back!

I just picked up the 2012 v6 with the Premium package... Instead of going for the Tech package, I would've just gone for the v8 for the small additional difference. Indeed, a few of the features almost made me do just that (cooled seat and smart cruise control). I hope you enjoy the Tech package!

Not a Genesis owner yet, but took a test drive last week. My question is to those who have used the bluetooth features. Since I am on the road a fair bit, I would use that feature the most. How does that work in comparison with other vehicles? Is it easy to use and configure? What changes would you like to see that are not there today?

Once you pair up the first time by entering the code, my iPhone 4 has consistently paired up each time I turn the car on. Call quality is great because the cabin is so quiet. I haven't downloaded my contacts (due to sensitive info) so I just say "dial" and the phone number.

I own an '11 Fusion with SYNC, and my Genesis was far easier to pair. It works just as well as the Fusion, although it's set at a different volume than that of the stereo.

On the 2009 model you can adjust the volume on the bluetooth phone connection separatly from the stereo. (I assume they didn't change this in later models). When you have an active call going just adjust the volume to a suitable level and it should stay there for future calls. I've found that I occasionally have to adjust the volume upwards a bit on incoming calls but rarely on calls that I initiate.

I usually have the stereo set at about 10-11 (16 if I'm really into the music on the highway) but the phone is set in the 22-25 range and needs to be there. The same thing is true for the Nav voice. If it is too loud or too soft, just adjust it while b-t-hing Betty is actually talking to you and it will keep that level for her voice until you change it. In short each of these functions can be set at their own volume and will stay there until you change it.

We have a 2011 Sante Fe Limited AWD and a 2011 Genesis 4.6. Both took less than a minute to pair our iPhone 4s on both cars. Never had a dropped call or call quality issue in the 6 weeks we've had both new cars.

Two new cars in six weeks? Sounds like an interesting story...

LOL... sounds intriguing :D.

Fair enough :-)

My child support ended June 30th. So, we've been waiting for that to end before taking on anything new. She had an 06 Elantra. Pretty basic car with no options. So, we had planned on getting a new Sante Fe Limited AWD so I could sell my 99 Expedition (my snow tires for the GTO).

On our first dealer recon trip, there was a black & tan Genesis 4.6 on the showroom floor. I was intrigued. Sales guy started telling me all about the car as she was looking over numbers on their Sante Fe collection. When he went to get their inventory sheet, I took a walk over to this car.

First impression - blown away. A Hyundai? For $43k? Then he told me about the R-Spec.

Well, our Sante Fe was not at this dealer but it was on a truck. So, I did more research and reading over the next week. Unfortunately, the Sante Fe we wanted (Sonorran Red/Tan leather Limited AWD/V6) was pre-sold. Luckily for us, another dealer had one in a few days later on dealer trade.

So, we went to that dealer the next weekend when it arrived and bought it. While she was in the finance office doing paperwork, I asked if I could drive the '11 4.6 sitting on their sidewalk in "the good spot." "Sure!", he says thinking he'll get a double-sale.

I couldn't believe how nice the drive was. How nice and smooth the power was delivered through the 6-speed auto. Only negative was this was the darker silver with black leather. I'm very tired of black leather.

So, that Monday morning I called the original dealer to see if the black & tan 4.6 was still on the showroom floor. Yes! Sent him the specs on my fairly modded '06 GTO. Next day, I'm driving home the Genesis.

Still can't believe I am driving a Hyundai, much less a "luxury" Hyundai. Who knew the car was THIS nice. No regrets at all!

Yes, our garage has that new car smell :-)

Great story. Thanks for sharing! And the good news is that there is no jealousy over who has the new car!
