If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I thought I would conspicuously warn new R-Spec purchasers of some spots I found on my own when detailing it. Attached is a picture that shows them pretty well. They're not at all noticeable unless you're bent over the trim washing your car, but annoying to the purchaser of a brand new car.

I have seen these on my R-Spec and again on another here on the lots in KC (one slated to arrive in California and be delivered to Newman here on the forums sometime in the near future). For future buyers, do a close inspection and get this addressed before you leave the lot - and then tell me what they did to fix it so that I can tell my dealer!

To note, a '12 V6 not far from this R-Spec did not have these spots - it may be unique to the R-Specs for some odd reason (perhaps because they were produced in a batch?). And it may be limited to black R-Specs as well (as I'm 2 for 2 on black, but haven't seen another color).

Are you talking about the orange spec? Looks like it might be environmental muck.

I just took a flashlight and magnifying glass to the trim and I did not see any specs on the trim.

that's raildust bro.. google it and how to take care of it. depending on how embedded the raildust is the trim may need to be replaced.. had that on a couple of my (million) new cars over the years. it sucks...

Almost looks like tree sap Trotti. Feel it with your finger if it is raised it is. btw I am still waiting for a platinum metalic color here in IL.

Nearly 100% sure it's not environmental gunk - it withstood polish and a bit of rubbing compound - I'd be surprised if it built up with that resistance so quickly (after 300 miles when I noticed it).

it's more than likely shavings of metal that once it began to oxidize stained the trim. even though the spec of metal are gone, the stain remained.

If this is really rail dust then it needs to be addressed by the dealer. I was told that all the R-Specs are transported like the Equus with the white cover over them. If your car got these spots from an uncovered car during transport then Hyundai needs to step it up.

I'd double check in sunlight realizing that these spots are really small and light. Those were the worst ones, most of the others were more faint.

So I talked to the sales manager today about the spots that you saw on my car. He walked out to my vehicle and saw them. However, he stated that he was able to wipe them off with his finger. So unless for some reason he is not being honest (he has been truthful thus far) the spots on my car were not nearly as entrenched as yours. Very odd. I wish you well in getting yours addressed. The names of the sales manager is Michael Ball.

By the way, the tinting is completed on my car and there is a chance that it could be on a truck in a couple of days. I am very excited now!

Cheers,
Newman

Off topic, but what tint level did you go with? And how much did it cost or was it included in the price?

Regarding the spots - mine appear to be much more stubborn unfortunately.

35% all the way around. Well - rear and all four side windows the same. I did not want to go very aggressive. The cost was part of my deal.

Off topic comment:

IMHO that is the best overall tint to go with. Your car will look really classy!
In hindsight I should have gone that route but chose 15% in back and rear sides, 35% front sides.
Spur of the moment decision after contemplating the 35% all around. :)
As such I've had the 'mafia car' comment more than once (black on black) lol.

Thanks - it was comments from many on this forum that pushed me in this direction. However - I am wondering if the factory tint on the rear and rear side windows will end up giving me more then 35% cumulative on those windows. Which would mean that I would still have different(lighter) tint on the front side (which I was trying to avoid). I hope the tint installer takes that into consideration...

Cheers

Getting Presidential II 35% tinting all around for $269.00 here in Seattle on Thursday. I paid $349.00 3 years ago.

I'll let you know on Thursday evening.

I am a lttle uncertain about what you mean by factory tint. All the windows come with the same factory tint, although there may be a slight differenct becasue the front windshield (and front sides I believe) have some sound-proofing in them.

Yes, you will have more than 35 VLT if you put a 35 VLT film on your car. Even "clear" glass such as you would purchase at a hardware store typically has a VLT of about 92%. No, the tint shop will not take that into consideration. If you ordered a 35 VLT film, they will put a 35 VLT film on your car (although not all films called 35 are exactly 35 VLT).

However, if you are stopped by the police in a jurisdiction with a 35 VLT limit, and you had a receipt or doc stating you had a 35 VLT film installed, I don't think they will ticket you even though actual cummulative VLT (tint film plus glass) is more than that, but some money hungry jurisdictions might not be so forgiving.

I think what he was referring to is that on the R-Spec at least, the back/rear windows are noticeably tinted as compared to the front from the factory.

Correct - I specifically asked the dealer to account for the fact that the rear side windows and the rear window already had a factory tint greater than the front side windows. What I was after, and did not get (though it is pretty close) is to have the exact same effective VLT on all four SIDE windows as well as the rear window.

I guess that I am still wondering if a good tinter can account for the existing factory tint to ensure I get the result that I am after. For the most part I like my tinting so will probably not get the windows re-done.

Do you think your dealer actually did the tint? Chances are he just farmed it out.
IMO the front sides will always appear to be a bit lighter since you have to account for the windshield (which most people do not or cannot tint).
