  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After lurking on this site for the past two weeks,I decided to test drive a new 2012 Premium at the local dealer. Told them I wanted to drive this exact model. 1st they tried to get me to take a 2011 premiun & Tech package out for a ride, found out they only had a base 2012 v-6.Told I'll drive that .Sales man said there was really NO difference between the 2011 to 2012 .same engine/tranny/equipment . Mistake #1 . Second he really was pushy on the Tech package that I had no interest in. #3 I asked sales manager & joe salesman about warranty, 5-60 bumper to bumper covers everything includiing electronics,10-100,000 drive train.
I am considering 2008-9 BMW 528xi,Avalon Limited 2011-12,2008-9 Cadalliac STS.. I really like the Avalon but the Driving Genny RWD beat it hands down the extra horses were a major plus. Only thing I didn't like was the 17" dunlops which were extremely loud. i want to drive the 2012 premuin with the 18" wheels/michelins before I Decide.

I don't care what car dealer you go to - its a crap shoot that they are going to really know anything about what they are selling..and that includes all the 'top' brands. Dealers are a big waste of time. The last two cars (before my Genesis) I bought via the internet entirely, by email. I showed up handed them a check ad drove away. I wish you could easily just order what you want and pick it up!

When I bought my Genesis I 'used' the dealer just for test drives so I could decide what I was going to get - That dealer sales dummy even told me I didn't want a Genesis because they are horrible in snow! - He also sold Subaru and thought that would be better for me.

I knew I wasn't buying from them. I have three dealers locally so after I knew exactly what I wanted I went to the other two dealers to work on the numbers.
the other two dealers also had clueless sales people and sales manager - honestly I have no idea how these people survive! I told the dealer what I wanted - told them where the car was at (out of town aprox 300 miles away) and my sales guy (although uneducated about the Genesis) got me the car. I bought with Circle pricing so there wasn't much negotiation... the dealer didn't even know about Hyundai Circle!

In the end I got the car I wanted and once the dealer understood I knew what I wanted and that I was teaching them - it went real smooth. Very happy Genesis owner!

My only recommendation would be that you drive the V8 and be prepared to spend $1k more for a much nicer experience..... sorry V6 guys.

I assume you know that all 2012 Genesis sedans have a different transmission than 2011's. I also assume you know that 2012 V6 now has about 40 more HP due to GDI, and 2 MPG better on highway (partly due to new 8-speed transmisison). However the 8-speed transmission is a new Hyundai design and the 2011 V6 uses a proven Aisin 6-speed tranny that has been used in Lexus and many other RWD cars. Aisin is about 50% owned by Toyota. The Hyundai 8-speed has been given excellent reviews so far, but hard to say about reliability, but it does have the 10/100 powertrain warranty.

The warranty on electronics is only 3 years / 36K miles (for all Hyundai's). As you noted, the 5-60 covers everything but electronics, except for drive train which has 10-100,000 warranty.

2012 has much improved suspension over 2011 (not as harsh on rough roads). The Premium and Tech Packages for 2012 have much better Michelin tires. As you noted, base still has crappy Dunlops.

Regarding the dealer BS, if they can get you the car you want at the right price, you will just have it ignore the games they play. It is part of buying a car. Of course, if there are other Hyundai dealers around, you can try them.

From my limited Hyundai dealer experiences (I've dealt with 3 of them on some level), your best bet would be to find an Equus certified dealer.
You will have a better chance of getting knowledgeable sales and service.

Yes, this. To sell the Equus, the dealer has to go through a qualification process. That doesn't guarantee you're going to get a knowledgeable sales rep but you'll have a better shot. I was the first person to buy an R-Spec at my dealer, and the sales rep was 100% up to speed on all the changes from '11 to '12.

Sadly, the Equus certified dealership tag does not guarantee product knowledge competency. The dealership I leased my 2012 Genesis 3.8 w/ Premium has the full Equus display on the floor and my sales person was woefully ignorant about the Genesis. He even told me he prefers to sell used cars because his commission is much better on them! Compared to my Audi and Infiniti dealership experiences, the Hyundai new car experience left much to be desired.

The important thing is the car is awesome! Try to get Hyundai Circle pricing (google is your friend) and the process will be as painless as can be.
