  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know if there is a cigarette lighter plug under the dashboard on passenger side? I have one in my BMW and use it to power my radar detector. I have the wires completely hidden behind the dash and would like to do the same to this with out having to hard wire it in...

There are two power plugs in the Genesis 4.6 tech. One is just under the cd player and is powered only when switch is on. The other is in the center console and is powered all the time and if you leave something pluged in for several days and the car is not used it may kill the battery.

Here is an easy hard wire solution for a Valentine, which uses telephone cord. It will work for any detector, as long as you know which is the hot wire and ground wire.
Telephone cord has four wires, and Valentine uses the center two wires. First, establish which of the two center wires is hot by testing a connected Valentine on a battery source.
Phone cord can be easily routed in a concealed manner just inside the front of the headliner. I routed mine to the fuse panel on the passenger side of the car.
Here is a trick: The fuse panel has a little access door. Take the door off and pry the entire panel out carefully. It is held on by simple clips. Now grab the weather stripping and about a foot or so away from its placement. Now you will have the door pillar interior exposed and will be able to further route the phone cord inside the door pillar trim. Ground the ground wire of the phone cord to a bolt exposed by the removal of the fuse panel. Attach the positive to an "add-a-fuse". Insert the add-a-fuse into a fuse location. I used the audio fuse location, but others will work just as well.
Finally and in this order, reinstall the fuse panel and then the weather stripping. Do not try to install the weather stripping first.

Or go to a car audio shop and they will route the wire for you. I had this done on my Azera to route the Magellan GPS power cable. They cut the cable directly into the car power, making it unnecessary to plug it in to the lighter, and routed it behind and up through the dash so I could plug it into the unit. Very neat looking installation, and did not lose use of the lighter. Total cost was about $70.

Perfect will do this myself as soon as I pick up the car.

Thanks guys

Just hardware it yourself. I did mine myself and it only took about 15-20 mins to cut the wire, route it down my dash and tap it into a fuse and ground it. I just removed the pillar and fuse panel cover (not the little door, it's not big enough to fit your hand through). Save yourself the $30 for the cord and just use a phone line. Strip one end and find the green wire and red wire, these are the only ones you will need. red is positive (attach to a 10A fuse) and green is the ground. I'll post some pictures later if you want.

Pics no necessary but thanks for the idea. This is what I was going to do if there was not aux power outlet under the dashboard.

One is under the CD player? Are you talking about the lighter plug?

Both 12v plugs are powered off by the ignition in my 2012.
