I've gotten more compliments on my 5.0 R Spec than my ///M5 :)

and it doesn't really surprise me - it's a great looking car :D

rides way better than the ///M too

had a few guys from work pull me outside - just to take a better look at the interior.

The R Spec is winning over fans already

cool

Congrats on the new ride. I have too get to my local dealership for a closer look...if they have any in stock!!

Thanks rich :)

the car gets a ton of attention

It's funny how people react when they first see it

some dude at shoprite kept staring at the front of the car - trying to figure out what it was -

He then walked to the back of the car - only to see the Genesis wing and the 5.0 R spec badge :D

He stood there for a few seconds - then walked away- without saying a word

it's funny what some people will do

the LED lights get a lot of attention too

People really seem to dig them :)

Happened to me too, had one of my ideas here used from posting it on this website in the 2012 Genesis, hyundai's equivalent aesthetic of Steinway Piano Black Gloss Wood Trim.

I have gotten used to the "That's the Genesis? Nice!" and even more so the non verbal looks and smiles. Several days ago I had a late model Mercedes owner pull along side of me and motion to roll down the window. He asked how I liked the car and said that he almost purchased a Genesis before choosing the Mercedes. The thing is I see more Genesis' everyday in Las Vegas...I kind of liked being the only kid on the block. Good thing for us onwers that the Genesis is selling well. The popularity of the car bodes well for us owners but we are just a little less special now.

I get the same thing. My wife and I were walking up to it after dinner the other night and she was like - wow - that really is a nice looking car. I came across a good price on a used M5 a few weekends ago, and thought, why would I want that when I have the new Genesis. I do wonder a little about if it is actually too fast. I worked my way through progressively faster cars over the years, someone who steps into an R-Spec for the first time might find themselves at 120 before they realize it.

I've had a variety of reactions to my Black/tinted R-Spec: quite a few drivers get a bit aggressive pulling away from up a stop or on the freeway (everything from Hemi-powered Dodges and 330is to modded Hondas). I have seen people peer into the inside when parked next to it. A neighbor went crazy over the interior and actually stuck his head in to smell the new leather. My BMW-driving son took one look at the engine bay and wanted to start removing the shrouding! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to put up with driving it every day! :D

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA (breathes) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

OMG this guy is still around!

What other super-awesome ideas have you contributed? Are you on the 2013/2014 model design team? I can't wait to see your new ideas!

/sarcasm

Sorry to hijack your thread like this - it isn't usually in my nature, but something about this guy just brings out the honey badger in me.

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW RIDE!

Somewhat related - I passed a 330i coupe the other day on a surface street. He did not like that and tried to catch up. He could not. At the next stoplight we were side by side. I wasn't sure if he wanted to race so when the light turned green I hesitated for a second. He took off so I floored it. About 5 seconds later I passed him at 60 mph (and then backed off - safety first).

It amazes me that this car, at over 4K lbs, will keep up with a 335i coupe that is almost 500 lbs lighter. I think that the driver of the coupe was a bit surprised as well.

Cheers,
Newman

Yeah,

I've had my run ins with the assorted BMW crowd ;)

Being a BMW man myself ( and now an R Spec guy )

I see just how funny it is when a 335i thinks he can hang with me

Had a very good run with a modded 335i - Dinan stage 2

and he still couldnt pull on me

bet he wanted to drive it off a cliff after I spanked him :D

Don't get me wrong - I still love BMW - to a point

but I didn't love the price tag of the M5

and I don't miss the repair bills or the terrible ride :D

judging by your sig - I see you're a former M5 man as well
Glad to see a fellow - and fomer - M5 enthusiast here :)
Don't miss the M5

and the new F10 M5 is gonna be a fortune

Had a long discussion with the wife about the new M5
I'd like to see what Hyundai have to offer in a few years

I'm certain they will have an M5 fighter

I hope they put something out ......... say in 3-4 years

that would be cool

Coming from a 335i with just a tune and intake, this car isn't even close in a drag race. I only have 1100 miles on the RSpec, but by the butt dyno it isn't even close. Stock for stock is a different story, but the 335i with a tune would be bus lenghts by the time you doubled the speed limit. This car is great and I don't miss the Bimmer that much, especially the cost of maintenance, the size, the ride, etc... It was nice pullimg up to a old guy in a C6 with the 335 and making him cry until 100 or so. Enjoy the RSpec, but if you beat the typical douchebag that upgraded from a Prius to a 335, don't blame it on the car they are driving. By the way...Dinan sucks. Try a 335 with a Juicebox and Meth...about a $1000 in mods for close to 100 HP.

I am sure that you are correct. But it was satisfying to stay with and pull on the 335 that I encountered - that particular driver wanted to win.

I get a lot of comments, as well (5.0 R-Spec, Black Pearl). I've had people mistake it for a Cadillac CTS-V (6x), a Mercedes (2x), a BMW (1x), and a Lexus (1x). And that is in the 6 weeks I've had this car.

I'm very happy with it all around. :D

And I blew away a Mustang GT-5.0 the other day - that was fun.

I'm also and ex-M5 owner that bought the Rspec (Platinum). Loved my E39 M5 but I was looking for a low cost of ownership, reasonable maintenance costs and a spare tire. Stopped by the BMW dealer and was shocked by the prices. They had a 2012 335is convertable (loaded of course) and the sticker was $72k....you've got to be kidding! Dealer asked me if I was interested in a new BMW and I told them to call me when they had a spare tire (no flats), a dip stick, and a user friendly iDrive.....oh yeah and made their cars look attractive again. The Rspec is not an M5 in handling or in over all fit and finish, but for a little over $40k (about the price of a lightly optioned 328) you get a good performance, above average handling, an interior that is styled as good or better(IMO) 429hp 5 liter engine that runs on regular gas (averaging 19 mpg around wn and getting nearly 27 hwy), an easy to use interface, great sound system and the exterior styling is contemporary. Did I mention factory 5 yr warranty and much lower operating costs after the warranty is over....doubt I'll get another BMW.

So far I really like the Rspec. Couple of things I'd like to see improved: Passenger seat does not have bolster or height adjustment (even VW does that) and auto cool, CD does not automatically go to next CD when finished, paint on body is good (not up to European or top of the line Japanese) but the inside of the door frames don' have enough paint (blotchy color), wish the transmisson had a sport setting and faster shifts, like to see a little bit stiffer sway bars to limit roll on moderate to high speed corners.

What I love!! Great torque, a seamless transmission in causal driving, simple but nicely executed interior, large clear display and instrumentation, really nice speakers/sound, quiet, as pretty as any large high end sedan on the market, wheels/tires fill arches and provide a more aggressive look, roomy, and the gas mileage and regular fuel with that much power....priceless.

Your second paragraph, you are seriously mistaken. The R-Spec 5.0 is much faster than the 335i. I am shocked that you said it "keeps up" with the 335i. Go try roll race where the Genesis shines even more. Organize a race with a stock 335i owner on the highway pull say from 50. The 335i will get dusted after 100 mph. Even the 385hp 4.6 version can beat a 335i from roll.. though it's very close.

335i vs. R-Spec 5.0

It will be close race if you race from zero to say 60. This is due to weight advantage on the 335i.

From 50 or 80 to 130 mph the 335i will get raped. From 100- 155 mph the 335i will still get raped. Heck, even the 385hp version Genesis will take over the 335i in this regard.

:welcome:

335i will not get "raped" in any sort of drag race by the RSpec. Stock for stock with 2 equal drivers the 335i would get the jump and would likely hold it until at least 100. On a roll 60 seems to be the RSpec's sweet spot from my experience. I think the RSpec would slowly walk away from a roll of 60 or higher. This is all an assumption because I haven't raced one yet, but I did trade a 335i in for the RSpec. If the 335i owner spends $500 on a tune you are toast no matter what you do. Mine ran 12.5 on street tires with a tune, intake, and a 2.2 60 foot due to traction problems, with slicks it would be very low 12's. If you compare the RSpec to a 300 SRT8 which would be pretty similar in a drag race I "raped" the SRT8"s on a regular basis with the 335i and kept up with some highly modded ones.

The driver is more important then 2 closely matched cars, even in an auto trans. I am not saying any of you haven't beaten a 335i, but if you beat some of the DBags I see driving them around, then don't blame it on the car. That is part of the reason I had to get rid of mine. They are a dime a dozen. Cheers to making the DBag look stupid though!

Usually the BMW fanboys are pretty cool compare to all other forums but you sound inexperienced. Stop comparing a JB3/4 modded 335i against these cars. Nobody is interested in comparing modded cars against stock, you newbie.

Go try racing a stock 335i with a R-Spec 5.0 from 80 or 100. Man, you are done, if you are in the 335i. You will be eating dust. The equal expression would be called "rape".

You said it yourself that you haven't raced one and you make a claim that 335i will not get raped. Sounds pretty dang ignorant to me. Hey dumb ass, I said it before that if you race the 335i from dig it will be close and R-Spec may not be able to overtake from lower speeds due to considerable extra weight. Read carefully before spewing shit... 335i is "fast" from highway roll. But R-Spec is ****ing demon in highway pulls. Which is why it will rape the 335i in this regard. It won't be "slowly walking". It will be "fast run". Ignorant fool... If something is guaranteed to rape something I will say it, which is why I said it here, dumb ass.

And I wasn't talking about beating the driver. I'm talking about the car. You are so behind, noob. I can tell by looking at your "age" in profile.

And you won't even need a R-Spec to beat the 335i from highway triple digit pulls. Good'ol 4.6 liter version can take out the 335i say from 100-150.

And I am talking "6-speed" version of 4.6. Cute newb.

These 4.6 and 5.0 Genesis sedans are unlike American luxury cars that shine from 0-quarter mile or upto around 100 mph. The V8 version Genesis are designed for all-around speed. It will pull hard all the way to the top speed, similar to the likes of BMW M and Mercedes AMG class cars. Which is why it's normal for a 4.6 sedan to rape a Tarus SHO at highway pulls. Damn newbs....... Learn from the pros.

And nobody is interested in how fast you were able to get from 0-60 and quarter mile and ET when your little 335i was modded. I am not interested in your "show off". You don't impress me on "anything".....:o JB4 335i can't even keep up with Lexus IS-F at triple digit highway pulls anyway. It's not all that fast as you think the 335i is.

BMW is a piece of junk however, in terms of reliability that is. The N54 (and N55) models break so easily it's not even funny. Almost 100% failure rate with HPFP which is "normal". I will give you plenty of "quotations".... since you like that.. :o That thing will break in a week. Heck, even the unmodded 335i goes back to the shop once every other week for repairs. I can see why you switched from "BMW" to *Hyundai Genesis*. Got tired of breaking eh? :grouphug:

Cheez, you sound like a Jack Ass Buddy. I didn't think anyone would get as defensive as you did, but you must have got you're feelings hurt by my post. Personal attacks don't bother me much on these types of forums, and besides my first sentence I won't drop to your level.

How do you know nobody is intrested in my comparison? It wasn't the only comparison that I made, but you obviously didn't like it. I made a couple of assumptions, of which I obviously don't have any proof. I do have experience with both cars which is more than you can say.

I still disagree with your definition of getting "raped", but if you have any proof please share so you can prove me wrong. I'll keep my eyes open for a 335i to race and report back, and even try to get it on video if I can.

As far the rest of your post, pretty weak stuff if you ask me. You don't know me. What does my age have to do with anything? I have owned 11 cars since I started driving and have raced half of them at the track and elsewhere. New to this forum and car I am, but to racing I am not.

You definitely don't sound like a "Pro." A Pro wouldn't attack somebody like that.

You are also completely wrong about the HPFP failure rate. 100%, really? Mine never failed in 40k miles, and there are plenty of others that didn't fail. Reliability is an issue with Bimmer's in general, but mine never had a problem. I got rid of it because I didn't feel like paying 1500 for brake job. It hit 50k and it was gone.

I think most people that read your posts can see that you are just trying to get a rise out of people. Have fun trolling!
