Infiniti G35 to Genesis 2.0T R-Spec

I've got an 06 Infiniti G35 6MT coupe sport package. Bought it used. Has 89k miles. Love it, but its burning oil. I'm thinking about unloading it.

I've got about $20k to spend.

Looks like I can get a 2010 low mileage 2.0T R-Spec for about that much.

The car will primarily be a daily driver but I will also be taking it to road courses for track day weekends about 5 - 6 times a year. The G is not an ideal track car but plenty of fun.

The obvious difference is about 90 hp and over a second 0-60. But, if I understand the R-Spec has Brembos and a real LSD.

Is the turbo lag bad on the 2.0T?

I love the power of the G but if the 2.0T is capable on the track it might be worth looking into. Otherwise I'll be looking into a 07-08 350Z.

Any experience/advice on the 2.0T much appreciated.

You have a G35 with only 89K and its burning /using oil. That does not say much for a G35. I had a 2004 Acura with 239,000 never used oil, I currently have a BMW Z3 2.8 with 213,000 never used oil and I drive the hell out it. I consider 89k on modern cars low miles.

The 2.0 T is not a racecar, fun to drive but lacks power and the chassis for really hard driving. Maybe the r spec has a better suspension, the regular turbo certainly does not.
The turbo is more suited for daily driving, once you go in the higher revs it runs out of steam quickly, which is not what you want for track driving.
The manual gearbox does not like quick shifting, most other manuals I had over the years had a better gearbox, it is that bad ( sadly).
I also find the brake and gas pedal to be just a tad too far apart, but thats just my impression.
Before you buy, try to sit in it with the helmet on, just to be sure.

But, having said all that, the 2.0 T still makes you feel as if you where driving something much quicker and expensive, which is cool.

It doesn't say much for the 06 G35's with the Rev-up engine. Same with that model year 350Z. It was a design flaw. Most do not ever have problems. There was a TSB. All cars under warranty with the problem got new engines.

Yes, still pretty bad, but that's not the point of my post. Besides, I've seen 1990 era Yugos still running like a top.

Anyway, sounds like the 2.0T would be a step backwards. I'll look for a late model 350Z.
