  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Now maybe its just me, but I own a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Sedan and previously owned a 2009 Genny. I liked the Blacked out tail lamps for the 2012, but it seems like they took out some bulbs or something and it just doesn't have that glow that My Genny tail lamps have. Now is that the purpose of having blacked out lights, because I would've liked it a whole lot more if Hyundai would've kept the same amount of LED bulbs in the back and then Blacked them out.

1. I don't understand what you are talking about (perhaps because of my own ignorance). Are you talking about the tail lights, brake lights, turn signal, or backup lights? Could you explain and/or post pics?

2. Why do you care? You own a 2011 Genesis, and by the time you get a new one, the Genesis will have a major refresh (2013 or 2014 model year).

I wouldn't necessarily call them blacked out. To me, it looks as if they did a redesign and moved the back up light to the center and surounded it with the LED brake light. It is an almost exact copy of the Lexus LS 450 tail lights. But they are bright. :)

I may have just grown used to the picture on the bottom, but I think it is a huge improvement all around.

Sometimes bright isn't the best thing. God forbid if you are driving behind a new Dodge Charger at night on a 1 lane road for 50 miles--- blinding!

I have a 2011 and would like to replace my lights with the lights from the 2012's. Does anyone know if the 2012 head lights and tail lights will fit on my 2011 without body mods?

There are other topics that cover both headlights and taillights. From what I remember, the headlights were a straightforward fit (although if you get the fancy "quad" model from Korea, you may not have the necessary electronics to get 100% functionality out of them). The rear lights are NOT an exact fit, from what I recall. They stuck out a bit, and some mods may be required. Try the search feature.

Good luck.

I don't have price for 2012 tail light assembly, but the L+R (trunk and quarter panel lamp) parts on a 2011 will set you back about $1300 plus shipping at a discount online Hyundai parts supplier. MSRP prices may be higher.

Ruissimo is correct that they stick out a bit if installed on a 2009-2011 as was shown in previous thread with pics.

The centered reverse lights were originally revealed on the Concept model of the Genesis back in 2007.
Note the headlights... close to the Prada edition.

If you order taillights from KAI they will be like 630$ (after facebookfan coupon is applied) + shipping, and 10% rebate onto your payapal account after month. To fit taillights to 2009-2011 replacement of hood plastic garnish is nedded it comes allready painted and price is 100$.

Maybe I am wrong, but the 2009-2011 rear turn signals appear to be wrap around the side more than in 2012. I consider this to be an important safety feature when changing lanes. One of the main reasons I purchased the Genesis was the excellent amber rear turn signals (along with turn signals on the side view mirrors).

I realize that I am probably in an extreme minority on this forum as to whether that is important, but it was for me.

This was very important to me also, In my Azera the tail lights were very similar and the large bank of LED's for the brakes make it extremely visible. Moving the turn signals to the inside was a poor design choice from a safety standpoint IMO. Quality, performance and looks are nice, but #1 in my book is how the car does with safety innovations. I still would like to see the implementation of a blind spot monitoring system.

I have a 2012, and prefer the earlier tail lights; the red lense looks "minimized" and blends better with the quarter panel body lines on a lighter color, IMHO.

I also prefer the older tail lights because of more LED's, also where they placed the blinkers on the front/rear of the car aren't anywhere near as visible to other drivers. The outsider corners were a much better option since the markers on the side don't blink when you have your turn signal on.

I agree. I also like the 2011 chrome over the 2012 aluminum look on exterior trim and interior door handles and trim.

Oh I didn't know that; I would like that much better too. :)
