  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Had my Genesis 4.6L since 2009 when I bought it brand new. Sold it with 22.5k miles on it for $26,500. I really liked the car a lot. In the end though the thing I just couldn't take was how it just didn't feel that solid on the road. It had the horsepower but the tires just wouldn't hold when I accelerated a bit too much (and yes, I even replaced the tires with new very high end rubber).

I may get another Genesis down the road as I see Hyundai just getting better and better. I really hope they create a luxury brand (much like Toyota did) so the badge wouldn't be such a problem to non motor heads. I also hope they make a sportier version with a feel more 'close to the road' like bmws.

Yes, 2009 suspension was/is a bit out of control. I replaced my 2009 suspension with Genesis 2010/2011 suspension parts (parts are the same for both years). That included all four spring and struts/shocks, and the rear stabilizer. Total price of parts and labor (at independent suspension shop) was about $1650. Improvement was dramatic. Suspension is much more compliant, and at the same time holds the road much better.

Hyundai improved the suspension again in 2012. Not sure if you are aware of the 2012 R-Spec, which is a bit sportier, but it is going to be hard for any automaker to match the handling and ride of a BMW.

OP, what did you replace it with that was better and a better value too?

Yes, I'm curious too. Especially now that I'm having separation depression and anxiety with my Genny at home and me driving a rental Dodge Challenger  in Maui :D!

This is a very vague statement. I have 2 BMW's and this car feels just as solid. You can't take it around a circuit track, it's too big. I understand if you were concerned when the tires break loose, but this car has nearly 400 hp. Perhaps going +1 to 19 inch tires and dedicated summer rubber may have helped. either way. good luck

wonder what high end tires? Because the main problem sounded like lack of a road grip and poor tire ride. All expensive tires are not created equal.

Grip related to tire compound is only one part of the equation. Body lean and squat are some other contributing factors as well.

Good luck to you in the future. :)

What did you get TJ ?? and it was a good deal ??

I just got a 335i Coupe to go with the 535i Sedan. both are 2011.

Why not Audi or MB? What is it about BMW that appeals to you? I know your 2 Bimmers are very different experiences but why a 2nd of the same brand rather than one of the aforementioned?

I had a 2009 and just traded up to the 2012 R-Spec. While I never experienced the issues with my 2009 that others complained about, the sportier suspension in the R-Spec is a large improvement.

I don't know if it is true or not but I believe I read somewhere that the 2009 suspension got a bit of a refresh in the middle of the production year. Someone correct me if I am tong but the refresh ended up being the same setup that became the 2010/11

I've had several Mercs and a few BMW's. I don't care for Audi's. If I was looking for a luxury sedan I would consider the S-Class (almost bot one) or a roadster the SL. The BMW's just fit my needs at the current moment.

There was a suspension update mid-year 2009. I think it was somewhere around April 2009 build date. However, there were some additional changes for 2010/2011 (don't recall the exact differences). The details were posted by others somewhere in this forum about 2 years ago. The changes varied somewhat between V6 and V8 (which has 200 lbs. more than V6 on front end due to engine).

I have a V6 with build date of Oct 2008, so I changed out all 4 springs, all 4 shocks/struts, and rear stabilizer bar to match 2010/2011 specs. There was an immediate improvement (new Michelin's to replace OEM Dunlap's did not hurt either).

I ve also owned a BMW 7 series and owned and still own a sport car.
I purchased my Gen in 09 when they first came out and will say that I'm happy with the suspension.
My brother who also owns a 7 series has driven the Gen also enjoys the ride.
It may not be for everyone but for what I paid for, it has both the luxury and the sport ride.
If you wanted a tire to grab it would have to be a soft compound that could not be used in the winters.

I do not think an SL is in the same category as A Genesis however I actually prefer driving my Genny to my SL at least when it comes to a daily driver. On warm summer days with the top down however, noting beats the SL. It's kinda like my harley on 4 wheels, only goes out in the sunshine and has yet to see the rain. It also hibernates through the long winter months we have here. 1996 Mercedes SL with 32,000 miles on the clock, mint :D

I leased a 2012 BMW 750li. I got a smoking lease deal on a brand new one and that's the road feel I wanted.

I really did love my Genesis though and I recommend it to everyone considering a new car. It just didn't like the lack of grip on the road.

As for the tires I put on it, they were Pirelli Scorpion. I think I paid $310 a piece for them.
