New Contential DWS-Pulls to Right

Just put four new DWS tires on. Balanced and aligned. 33 lbs pressure all tires. Question: would it be Toe In that I need them to recheck? I also wonder if alignment specs are different for the 4.6 and 3.8.

Thoughts appreciated before I go back to tire shop later today.

Most likely your toe is out of spec... I find the alignment on the Genesis at OEM lacking anyway -I have found a slight toe out with an aggressive camber produces more feedback, and allows the car to have a more natural (balanced) feeling.

Did you have the tires force balanced? You can find the alignment figures for both models at the Hyundai service website.

I had new Contential DW's installed and mine also pulls a little to the left. I'm going in for a 4 wheel alighment in a few weeks. Hopefully this corrects the issue.

If there was no pull before the new tires and a pull right after the intall then you have at least one bad tire. It happens with any brand. Get the tire dealer to swap the ties front to back and to find out if the pull goes away. If it does then its a bad tire. If no change, have tire dealer swap tires left to right and find out if the pull changes direction. If it does pull in the other direction then its a bad tire. When belts are not built in a tire exactly correct then a tire will cause a pull or even show a side to side wobble. Toe-in out of spec usually does not cause a pull , but out of spec caster or camber can.

Update:
Went to tire dealer. They swaped front right to left-still pulled right.
Then they swaped both front tires to rear and rear to front. Still pulls to right.

They also showed me in their book that camber cannot be adjusted on Genesis. Toe in can. Specs show front toe left -.05 to .15 my setting 0.00. Right toe -.05 to .15 my right .10. Initial toe before alignment left 1.15. Right -.80

Anyone got any more thoughts

Update:
Went to tire dealer. They swaped front right to left-still pulled right.
Then they swaped both front tires to rear and rear to front. Still pulls to right.

They also showed me in their book that camber cannot be adjusted on Genesis. Toe in can. Specs show front toe left -.05 to .15 my setting 0.00. Right toe -.05 to .15 my right .10. Initial toe before alignment left 1.15. Right -.80

They're correct, the camber cannot be adjusted. The tires are bad. This is not the first time I have heard about these Conti DWS tires tracking poorly.

Another issue that shows a bad tire is when they have problems balancing them. Take a look and see if they have balance weights in severeal different spots on the inside of the rim. If so, you probably have a bad tire and they just didn't tell you. One way to prove the tire and not the rim is to remove the tire and spin just the rim, it should come out "0" with no weights on the rim.

Like someone else mentioned, if the belts are not correct when they make the tire, you will never get it to balance. I've had two BFG sport truck tires that were like this. two different batch numbers and about 3 years apart on the purchase of each one.

I have heard of bad noise issues with the conti DWS after about 10K miles on them.

Since they rotated the tires around the car and it still pulls to the right, I would have them check the toe in again. You sure had alot of toe on the right .80 before the alignment and it didn't pull to the right, then something don't seem right in the suspension IMO. Have them go over the alignment again.

Have a different set of tires put on. I had a set of michellin pilot sport a/s plus with three bad tires which is rare but it happended. The tire dealer replaced the Michellins for no charge with a set of Bridgestone Turanza Serenity W rated, no more pull.

My 2012 RSpec with 7000 mi just developed a very slight pull to the right also.
I have Continental ProContacts.

So I checked the tire pressure and they have 40psi all around.

I called the service dept and asked them why?
My car was a dealer demo, driven by the gen manager.

They serviced it at 3000 mi, their answer about the pressure was " some people like a harder ride"...

any thoughts on this answer and correct pressure?

I just downloaded the PDF of specs that TJ Park posted and compared them to the print out from the alignment machine. They are all the same as on TJ's PDF and the adjustments are withing the ranges. What's interesting is that with the Dunlops, the machine showed some of the toe in way out yet it never pulled right or left.

My concern is that the tire dealer moved both the front tires from the front to the rear yet I still have a pull. Because of this I do not know if a bad tire could still cause a pull to the right even though it is now on the rear.

33 psi is what Hyundai suggests for the Genesis. You may want to try 33 and go from there.

See my post above about more than one bad tire. And yes, a bad rear tire can cause a pull but not usually.

The dealer and all tire shops will commonly jack up the air pressure because they know that over time a tire will leak air, and almost no one periodically checks their tire pressures. The correct cold pressure is on the driver door. It's to be measured in the morning on a flat surface.

The dunlops are symmetrical tires (inboard and outboard halves feature the same pattern). The genesis has negative camber built into the car, especially at the rear. If you remove the tires and look at them closely you will see that there is more wear on the inboard side. This is normal and also why it's important to have the tires balanced and rotated at 7500 miles according to manufactures recommendation.
The Conti DWS is an asymmetrical tire, meaning the tread blocks will be larger on the outboard side versus inboard. What this means is neither here not there, what's important is how this manifests on the road. Many guys on the BMW 5 series site have expressed pull to the right issues with this tire and wandering at highway speeds. At the end of the day I don't think this tire is well suited for this car. Some seem to have no issues, others have no solutions other than to switch brands.

I can't believe what a lame and lazy answer they gave you. Correct tire pressure is not a mystery or some weird science. The pressure stamped on the inside driver's door is pretty reliable.

Because if they told him the real answer it would undermine his intelligence. "Because sir, we realize that you are probably too lazy to monitor the tire pressure yourself. So if we actually set it to the correct pressure, in a month the pressure will drop and your TPMS light will probably go off, angering you and causing you to blame us. "

Pressures are at 33 psi. I was also concerned about the .80 right and 1.15 left. I hate to have them mess with setting the toe in out of spec to solve the problem.

Hopefully problem solved. Tire dealer is taking all four back and ordering four Bridgestone Turanza Serenity tires. Seems that on any car where the camber is not adjustable, asysmetrical tires that pull to the right cannot be corrected without a camber kit. I had to do that with my SL500 and not again. Did a google search on DWS pulls to the right and had an eye opener. I ordered the DWS because of the positive comments on this forum.
