  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Visited the dealership for the 7,500 mile service and was informed that there is a recall notice being issued for the V-8 transmission. I asked what that meant, and was told it is an upgrade for the transmission software(?) that would take several hours to perform. They couldn't do this today because they hadn't received whatever "parts/upgrades" were required to complete the recall item.

Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this?

Thanks,

Orcaman

If it was a recall there would be a TSB on the Hyundai Service website. Nothing of this nature exists.

When the dealer installed my exhaust last Thursday, I asked him to check the firmware for engine and transmission computers. He said they were all up to date

I asked that question (TSB?) and he said it had just come out and wanted to know if we had received a letter in the mail????????????????????????

OK, I'll look out for it, but no TSB as of today.

Have not received any "recalls" or TSB information yet, however my ZF Transmission is starting to do something strange ONLY WHEN FIRST STARTING OUT, first thing in the morning, while transmission (and engine) are cool. In this HOT weather, I've been parking in the garage with the car facing out, so I drive out forward, not backing up, then shifting to drive.

What it has started doing is when I drive out, it tends to stay in 1st until it gets up to abour 3000 RPM, before shifting into 2nd. Only does this the very first time I drive in the morning. The rest of the day, it operates fine, and it only does this a couple times a week, not always. Car has a little less than 27,000 miles on the clock. Never did this before, even when I drive in the "cooler" weather of Penfield, or the "cold" weather of Roswell last winter.

Not going to do anything about it, but will keep my eye on it. Transmission still has a loooooooong time before the warranty runs out.

I think Batman has the same issue when leaving the Bat Cave! High RPM Launch! ;)

Re-Querried the dealership today with the "not weekend guy" and was told there was a "campaign" (his words) regarding upgrades to the ECM. The TSB he referenced was TSB 10-01-025 and "campaign" #:TB-9. When I asked about why the "weekend guy" used the words "transmission recall", he told me that he was new and wasn't familiar yet with Hyundai.......That begs the question how/why he got hired, and why is he in contact with the customers talking about things he isn't familiar with.

I'm all for giving a guy a chance, but not with my Genesis until he can pass some sort of criteria qualifying him to do the job professionally.

He may be a very qualified mechanic who is just not familiar with Hyundai's terminology. I couldn't tell you what "campaign" means in car terms. I wouldn't be so hard on the guy.

Whatever TCM reflash they have, I'd definitely give it try.
I wonder why they didn't have a 'sport' mode like the BMWs have. :(

I've had the same thing for quite some time...tranny hangs up in 1st gear anywhere from 2200-3000 rpm on the first start of the day as I drive out of my garage. It's been completely random for me. Can't see any pattern yet (time of day, outdoor temps, phase of the moon, my wife's mood, etc.) I have noted that if I accelerate more "gingerly", it will stay hung in 1st to a higher rpm. If I'm push the accelerator a bit more firmly, it will drop into 2nd at a lower RPM. If I punch it, it immediatly drops into 2nd. I never have any issue after the first start of the day.

I don't think this is a transmission related issue, but rather an ECM update to apparently correct an issue that causes a trouble code to trip and illuminate the "check engine light" for (Evaporative Emission System - Very Small Leak Detected). I have had this problem three times since I purchased my Genesis back in November 2009. The first two times it happened I called the dealer and asked the tech if I should bring it in for service, and was told to make sure the gas cap was secured properly and the light should go out in a few days, and if not to bring it in. Last week after getting an oil change, and getting the tilt steering TSB work done, I was driving back home and the check engine light came on again, and I again called the dealership technician and reported the problem. To be fair with the tech, he did say to bring it back in, but by then I knew what it was, and being short on time, I got home and hooked my OBDII scanner to find the trouble code for (Evaporative Emission System - Very Small Leak Detected). I cleared the code and went about my business.
I am now going to print the afore posted "TSB Campaign" and take it to the dealer to have the update performed.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
• Model: 2009 Genesis Sedan (BH) 4.6L vehicles
• Applicable vehicle production date range: From July 18, 2008 to July 15, 2009
• Applicable vehicle VIN range: From Job #1 to KMHGC46F59U070510

Thanks to this forum for the info!

Duplicate situation with my '09, 4.6. right before I had it in for the 15K oil, etc. change. Same sort or response - "not to be concerned - you have a unlimited warranty with the transmission." However, rather unsettling. This is not to say that they did not spend some time checking it out and ascertaining no outstanding (TSB) issue. Still have the otherwise SUPERB vehicle searching for a lower gear while decelerating, often times with a sort of "clunk." Acceleration, especially up on ramps remains smooth and thrilling.

I believe what you are experiencing is part of the ecu logic that controls the anti-pollution logic. The engine maybe keeping its revs high to more quickly heat the catalytic converter. My Volvo and Passat both did this and that was/is the reason. Probably wouldn't hurt to as the service department.

I just received a notification in the mail for Campaign# TB9. The card doesn't mention what the recall notice is actually for.

This campaign has to do with an evaporative emissions control/ ECU issue, where a small leak is detected in the fuel system and trips the "check engine" light in the instrument panel. This has to do with pollution control, and should have no impact on any transmission problems IMO. If your "malfuntion light" isn't illuminating you are probably ok on this issue. I looked up that campaign number on Hyundai service and here's what it shows:

TSB No. 09-FL-009
Created Date 8/6/2009 Published Date 8/6/2009 Modified Date 6/25/2010
Model GENESIS(BH)(2009)
Gr./Sys./Comp Fuel System / General Information /
DTC P0456 - Evaporative Emission System-Leak Detected (Very Small Leak)
Symptom EN9000 - MIL ON (Malfunction Illumination Light)
Subject 09-FL-009 Revised See Service Campaign TB9 (10-01-25)
