  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My car is coming up to 15000's next month so I will be taking it in to get the following items done/inspected. Has anyone else on here had this done yet and if so, what was the ballpark cost?

Replacing the climate control air filter (3rd one from the bottom) was 49.95 on my car. I think a tire rotation runs $8 with my dealer coupon, maybe $19 without. Other than that it's really oil/air filter and fuel additives. The cost of the former will depend on your oil preference, and the latter I can't imagine being more than $30.

Thank You Aquineas. I think they were $60 on my Honda Civic SI. Only place you could buy them was at the dealer. I always changed them myself as it is located behind the glove box. Is it behind the glove box in our cars? I haven't checked the manual yet.

Yes it is behind the glove box (the PDF manual I downloaded from somewhere has the procedure on page 7-36 and 7-37). My dealer lists the part at $26.60.

You should be able to get the cabin filter for less than $26.60 at the parts department. Ask them for a discounted price quote (or just ask the price ahead of time and you will almost always get the discount). I know that there are some very good after-market cabin filters for 2009-2014 Genesis, but not sure if the 2015 is different filter. I would not recommend an after-market oil filter, but I have no problem with an after-market cabin filter.

If you have a service item done at a dealer (such as oil change), they almost always do inspections for free. If you ask them for a 15,000 mile service package, they will charge you a fortune for the inspections.

Can't you just call your dealer and get the exact cost for the 15,000 mile service? I would imagine that this can vary regionally, so anything posted here might not be accurate.

The reason there is no exact cost is that when you go in with an open-ended request for a 15000 mile service (or name any mileage) - you will be charged all the dealer can get.

I have seen anywhere from $500 to $1500 for this sort of thing - It's called a "sunshine special" in the trade - the car sits in the sun for awhile - then you get dinged.

If you want bona fide service, you should specify very carefully what you want and ascertain the specific price therefor, in advance. I have seen women, literally in tears, who got taken in with this sort of thing.

First things first: Check your manual to see what's needed - do what you can yourself.

I would imagine that labor rates vary and can drive the actual price as well? In this case, they posted the list of recommended services from the manual, so a quote should be easy to get from the local dealer to avoid any surprises.

This especially is so true. Many times I've had dealers claim that "this or that" is due to be done, long before the manufacturer's guidelines or recommendations.

Interesting point - just thought of something - on the 2015 Genny 5.0 - a tire rotation can't be done - except maybe side-to-side - because of the different tire sizes.

That leaves only the cabin air filter and oil/oil filter as the substantive service items on the posted listing. The amount of money to made on these items by a dealer is only chump change. So buyer beware.

I have a Gen 1, so maybe it doesn't apply directly, but:

I just had my 15k service done at the dealer. They changed the engine oil/filter using full synthetic oil. They rotated/balanced the wheels. Changed the cabin air filter AND the engine air filter. Put Hyundai fuel additive in. Plus all of the inspections.

Cost was $205 all done.

Hope this helps.... Oh - this is Souther California, North San Diego County area. So that it not the cheapest in the country I would imagine.

The dealer was North County Hyundai. They did a great job and handed me back a clean car :)

I list of "inspections" does not constitute a "service." The fact that you request such a service tells the dealer that you want to get raped, and they will be happy to honor your request.

The only thing needed is an oil change, and a cabin filter change. If you cannot change the cabin filter yourself then (censored). Hyundai "fuel additive" is Hyundai fuel injection cleaner, which is the exact same as Chevron Fuel injector Cleaner with Techron, which can be purchased at any auto parts store to be added to your gas.

True, but I thought "sunshine special" was a nicer term for it.

I rotated my V8 Genesis tires form left to right at 6000 miles. I plan to do this every 5000-6000 miles.

Before posting censored insults, did you ever stop to think that some of us have better things to do with our time than changing a cabin air filter and don't mind paying someone else to do it? Ditto on many routine service things...

Well everyone knows Mark's view of the world is the only correct one..

I took that into consideration before posting :D...

Thanks for all the advise. I plan on stopping in to make the appointment so I can insure that they have all the recall items in stock for my car (minus the tires which I don't want changed yet) and at that time I will pick up the cabin filter and install it myself. I will pull off one of the crossbars and check one of the air filters to see if they need to be replaced. If so, I will pick up those as well.

Thank You FastDEW1 for your post, this gives me a ballpark price going in when I make the appointment. Much appreciated.

Found the air filter here for 19.47.

Edit: Just saw your other post for much cheaper lol
