  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

15 Genesis First One In The Lot

SO are the wings on the front and the steering wheel and the H on the back? This is what it looks like...bizarre not to do it all around...

Yep, only H on the car is the trunk and engine cover. Even the hubs have wings.

The charging jacks and audio ports being where the ashtray use to be is ok but they didn't leave a way for the cords to get out when that door is closed nor did they give you a big enough space for the size of today's smartphones.

So there are no audio or charging ports in the armrest or glovebox?

Correct, there are no additional plugs beyond the two I mentioned earlier unless they are hidden somewhere stupid.

I drove a Ultimate AWD today. It is simply magnificent. It solves all of the annoying little niggles of my 2012. Plus, it is a massive leap forward. This competes on even ground with any European car out there. The Head-up display is the best I have seen on any car. Period. The A/V tech is easy to use and does tons. The ride is excellent. The seats are way upgraded.

Grand Slam.
GenesisCaptain: Thanks for your assessment of the Ultimate Genesis. I have a 7200 mile 9 month old 2013 Rspec which is a great car. But the seats are very substandard in my Rspec. I've been ranting on this forum in order to determine what I should do in order to make my 2013 comfortable for a bad spinal situation I have.

I have gotten lots of information and help from forum members regarding issues with the Rspec Genesis I own ( I. E. steering wheel telescoping doesn't extend as designed to -- it travels/extends only 1 inch which is way to little to help someone to get seated properly, etc etc). I bought the Rspec as my easing out of here car since I have Leukemia, and knew that treatment would change thIngs and I wanted to get my car situation in order. I've always had sport seats in my cars of the past 22 years and thought the Genesis 429 HP Rspec would have proper seats, but it doesn't and all my options I've explored have lead me to wait and get the power bolster sport seats in the 2015 Genesis V8.

So, that was/is my plan, but after hearing numerous issues about price mark-ups, and realizing that buying the new model 2015 will not allow for any real discounts off MSRP, that has me disappointed along with having to trade or sell a perfectly fine new Rspec that doesn't fit my spine. At this point since I had to start chemo April 1, my life has changed and I'd like to get into a 2015 5.0 ASAP so I can drive in comfort while I can and before more changes happen medically.

So, I'll be one of the folks that get soaked due to buying the 2015 Genesis V8 early, but it will help clear inventory for folks who know better than to buy the first units that hit the show rooms. Again thanks for the report regarding the seats, et. al. Regards.

I hate to hear about your pain. I forgot to comment on the side bolsters-- way better. Not much side-to-side slide in the corners now, compared to the old seats.

The lane keep assist is really freaky-good. It shoves you back into the lane. I forgot it did that, and it kind of messed with my mind. Couple the lane keep with the new ACC cruise, and the car would drive itself for miles on a good highway.

Oh yeah, and the power trunk is great.

About the only things it lacks that I have seen on other cars are:
* Soft-close doors - I wish they did put this on the car. Those are nice.
* Top down cameras - I wish they had this
* Uber-upgraded Stereo - I wouldn't opt for it, but maybe I would.
* Full LED headlights - I am fine with Xenon, but I would not turn down LED
* Rear entertainment - I would not choose it, but it sure looks cool
* Night vision- I totally don't care about this. Doesn't seem very useful.

Captain - I have the 17 speaker Lexicon in my Rspec, and it is very very good. Way better than other cars I have been in (Cadillac, BMW base stereo & Harmon Kardon up-grade, and for sure the Chevy SS, 300C, GS350 Lexus, Infinity G37 & Q50, etc).

I also have the ACC cruise. Does the new one allow you to keep the cruise control on, but not keep the distance from other cars where it brakes for you? I like to have the option to just have the cruise on. Now, I do not have the lane change system. I assume you can turn it off also? I think the 2015 gives you a signal via steering wheel vibration and/or keeps you in the lane??

I've already heard that the telescoping steering wheel travels out the distance that it should and it is not restricted to 1 inch --- that 1 inch is what keeps me positioned so far from the steering wheel that my arms are straight and in the Rspec I have with sport steering, the steering is very stiff as it should be in a sports car, but when to far from the wheel it is not good. I assume the sport vs normal modes ease the steering resistance, but even if it doesnt being positioned close to the wheel by way of the new seats being lower, I assume my knees will not be jammed into the dash as they are now in the Rspec.

One more question, do the pedals move, as in Lincolns, and 300C Chrysler? OK, thanks again for your input ... sounds like an awesome machine. Now I have to try to get a dealer to cut me some slack on the price if i buy the Genesis V8 and also a new Sonata for my wife. Good luck to you. Regards

I agree. The Lexicon is better than the "normal" top end stereos. I am referring to the $4K to $6K Bang & Olufsen-grade upgrades that a few of them are offering. Those are better than the Lexicon.

The new ACC will stop and start the car. Ours will disengage at about 5 MPH. The new lane keep assist lets you choose between three different levels of intervention from just a warning to massively shoving you back in the lane. So, the two together could pretty much drive the car by itself on a reasonably straight highway.

One more question, do the pedals move, as in Lincolns, and 300C Chrysler?
You mean like adjusting the distance of the pedals from the driver? I don't think so. I did not notice that feature.

I remembered one more major plus. The dead pedal is in the correct position-- it is now finally closer to the same plane with the other pedals. Way more comfortable driving position.

The LKA steering disengages approximately 10 seconds after it starts if it doesn't feel feedback from the driver on the steering wheel. If they didn't do this I could see people seriously abusing it's intended purpose. One of the things I can see this being useful for is crosswind, it should minimize the amount of time out of your lane.

Here is the full disclaimer from Hyundai on the LKA system:

The Genesis Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist is designed to notify the driver if the vehicle is leaving the lane of travel by shaking the steering wheel and flashing a display signal. Under certain circumstances, it may also provide light steering counter-assist to help guide the vehicle back into its lane. It is a supplemental assist, and does not replace the need for extreme care and attention by the driver.

The Lane Departure Warning System will not work under all circumstances. It functions when it is able to detect painted lane markings. It cannot function if the lane markings cannot be seen clearly if the lines are faded, or during dusk without headlamps on, with snow, rain, sleet, dust, leaves or standing water on road, sudden changes in brightness such as shadows, tunnel exits/entrances, low sunlight angle causing reflections, multiple lane markings or criss-crossed lines, tar crack sealer and cracked or broken road surfaces. It also may not function on very rough roads, when walls, curbs or concrete barriers are close by, or if following another car too closely. Since it “sees” the lane markings using a camera in the upper windshield area, it is imperative this area be clear and free of blockage such as stickers, dirt, snow, tinting material, markings and labels. Avoid putting objects on the dashboard that may reflect light or images onto the system camera area.

Lane Keep Assist is not a substitute for safe driving practices, but is a supplemental assist only. The driver is responsible for always maintaining command and control of the vehicle and must keep hands on the wheel at all times. Do not drive if you are drowsy. Drivers must read their Owner’s Manual thoroughly before using Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist.

I sat in a Empire State gray 5.0 ultimate today. Wow having owned a 2010 4.6 tech this car is BAD! I can already see this will be my favorite car ever. The seats feel excellent. I will go back Saturday to test drive. I can hardly wait

We are talking about the front of the dash, not the seats.

I know, that's what I was talking about too. I'll post a pic after work for proof.

One more little thing. There is an SD slot on the dash for the map data. So, now an owner can easily update the maps just by inserting a new SD card. Massive improvement over the prior update processes.

JCox12,
Can you possibly take a picture of the Empire State Grey? I think there is some confusion between the two (with Parisian Gray) particularly in the E brochure page 6. They list that as Empire State Gray however that looks like Parisian gray to me. I prefer ESG and that is my first choice, thanks.

Totally agree, I'm glad it's not another DVD based system though their still using Map & Soft's outdated mapping software. It still doesn't realize an overpass was put at a major intersection in my town which has now been completed for about 6 months yet my $99 Garmin does....go figure. It also wouldn't provide me with an alternate route from where I live to my destination in Alabama, though there is 2 other more logical choices that keep you on major highways vs. a twisting back roads mountain pass. I made sure that all highway and toll road options were selected, it's the same in my 2013 Genny.

The H on the back is the easiest one to replace anyhow.

But yeah I think it's retarded, we just received two more genesis today. A white one and another blue

Do you have a moonroof and 18" wheels? If so, you have "at least" the Premium Package (not Base Trim). The 2009-2014 Base Trim models for USA market do not come from the factory with leather insert on front of dash, and the only way it could be there would be if a customer had it installed after they bought the car. All other Trim Levels (Premium and Tech Package) have the leather insert on front of dash for USA models (may be different in Canada). 2015 is totally different.

I've got the 17" rims and a moonroof and was purchased CPO from a dealer here in NC with 19k miles on it back in 2012. Unless the dealer installed it for the previous owner it came that way. Regardless not sure why the 2015's wouldnt come with the leather the "wood" trim looks cheap. Sorry to derail this thread.

No matter what trim the 2015 has it will never look as good as the 09-14's.
