  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got my first look today at the only one within 100 miles. It was Alta White w/ Black interior (not my choice of colors). 1st impression was how dark the wheels looked, surprised me a little. Smokey, close to Himalayan grayish. Compared the paint with a Uyuni White G90. Alta is near pure pigment titanium white, like kitchen cabinets or melamine, no metallic. Uyuni is a metallic, though I would not call it metal flake, more like small dust particles. Plus the Uyuni White had a touch of pearl in it.

But holy crap, y'all didn't warn me about the Heads Up Display. What kind of holographic / stereoscoptic black magic chit is going on there. The projection makes it seem like it's hovering out near the grill. Very impressed, liked it way more than the blind spot monitors, would need to re-train my eyes to glance down at the instrument cluster, as they now automatically gaze towards mirrors. HUD gives warnings as to traffic in other lanes before I even turn on a blinker. Plus the speed limit sign in the display, that turns red when you are over the limit, all in all very useful and ergonomic.

Now as to the seating, the suede was different than I expected, it is perforated, but the material has very little nap or pile height in the fibers. Could only be measured in the thousanths of an inch. The seats are firm, something about 3" out from the backrest seemed even firmer. I compared with quilted leather in the G70 (light grey) but they felt even firmer, and maybe thinner, both seat bottom and backrest. Must be different construction on the G70, the quilting looked very similar to GV70 pics. I also notice center console height in the GV70 was higher, but comfortable and when in use left my right hand hovering perfectly over the infotainment control.

During short test drive I found a county road with 30-35mph curves, the GV70 seemed to manage respectully at 65mph without any noticable body roll. But the steering is touchy, driver assist kept beeping as I encroached the center line. Will have to get use to the steering.

Seville Silver (GV80) looked silver in the midday sun, again tiny metal specks. I also saw a Himalayan Grey (Carbon Metal - better name) that I liked better.

Carbon Fiber is very unique, almost 3d looking with darker strands standing proud and silver strands recessed, pretty cool. I tried the ambient lighting but because it was so bright outside I could not confirm if the carbon fiber was backlit or surrounded.

The GV70 is my first vehicle/experience with HUD too, and I don't think I can go back to a vehicle without it. You can turn off the lane keep assist sound/alert in the sound settings. I turned mine off as I found it annoying.

Only thing I don't like about the HUD is if your using Android Auto for NAV it doesn't show the directions in the HUD (I haven't tried my iPhone to see if that's the same situation). I like the map visual better on Android with Google Maps, but I guess I'm willing to accept the Genesis NAV to get the directions in the HUD.

I had a hard time seeing much, if any, 3D effect on instrument cluster. Maybe a slight depth difference in the blue lit ring around the gauges. It may have not have even been turned on, if that is a swichable option.

PS, did I mention you how much I like the HUD!

The 3D effect is definitely noticeable if it's on. It mostly separates the middle and the bottom of the cluster from the gauges. You can also pick a gauge visual to stick with if you, for example, like the Eco gauge cluster but prefer to drive in Sport. Nice touches like that overall.

Had HUD on my 2019 Acura RDX and loved it—replaced that with a 2021 Kia Sorento, which we like a lot, but no HUD available. Have it also on the 2019 Volvo XC60 (which the GV70 may replace). It's one of those things that, once you get it, you don't want to drive without it. Constant speed readout right in line of sight makes driving much easier. It's a shame the GV70 only offers it on the top trim. In Korea, it's an option for any model

Just want to add I compared the GV70 suede to the suede in a Sonata SEL Plus. Hyundai has identified that as coming from Dinamica Miko. Interestingly, the appearance was very similar, except the suede did not extend all to the front of the seats. What I noticed in the Sonata was I could pinch (thumb and index finger) the material and it felt looser and a little thinner. Whereas in the GV70 the material was more taut and didn't move much at all and seemed thicker. I know from looking at Alcantara material (on Relicate, I think) that there are different grades with different backer materials so maybe something like that explains it.

In addition, the window trim that sometimes appears blacked out and at other times shiny is because it has a smoked out looking top coat over shiny metal (aluminum or other). I have lots of experience (just not automotive) of adding dye (aniline) to lacquer to create toning or shadow effects that are totally transparent since the color is not made up of pigments. I think the wheels probably have a similar treatment. So at certain angles of lighting & perspective it doesn't reflect back at you. Oh & BTW, images that look like the wheel 'waffle' indentions are black or partially black is pure reflections from non illuminated parts of wheel rim.. Bottom side molding is gloss black. Headlight lenses appear tinted.

Yes you can defeat the 3D effect or enhance it. You kind of have to bee looking at it the right way and the eye camera cannot be blocked I think

I just witnessed the full glory of the HUD. I was using the factory Nav on my way home so the turn by turn was up in the HUD with everything else and the off ramp of the freeway was lit up like a video game. Frickin brilliant. God I love this rig. Tons of looks and thumbs up on the road.

You are correct you can choose which 3D gauge you want regardless of mode. I drove it in ECO mode for the first time and that may be my go-to choice. The 3D seemed deeper and I liked the look. They thought of everything

If the driving mode is in Sport +, are you stating that you have the option of having the look of the other 3-D driving modes?

The pleasure you take in your possession of this vehicle is a bit off the charts even for a car enthusiast forum, but, you know, I am kinda enjoying it. 👍

About the shifter: is it possible to accidentally change shifts while driving/at a stop if you mistake it for the click wheel controller?

The shifter and the multimedia controller have very different feels and textures to them. The shifter does not spin around freely like the controller. You will know, and the engine will let you know if you did something as stupid as that. I'm not sure, but I think Genesis must have some built-in safety triggers in case of the situation you describe. You should test drive one and see if you can break it.

What I noticed was the position of the shift dial is further to the rear from say my current shift lever that I sometimes drive with hand resting on. It has more of a tactile click to rotate as well.

More of a bright and loud red?

Now that I've had mine for a couple of weeks I do at times grab the wrong dial. I do think it would be better if they were reversed. I guess they thought to put the infotainment dial closer to the screen? Not sure. Not a big deal. I will say that both dials/knobs feel like they were crafted at a swiss watch factory.. Just so good to use.

I see Remote Smart Parking Asst, Does it have Remote Start?

Yes, and from the key fob and the phone app.
I was looking at a window sticker and didn't see it. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I need it for winter, especially when visiting Colorado.

How do pick a gauge visual to stick with? I love the 3D effects in ECO display, so it’d be nice to keep that visual while in other drive modes. I looked in the owner’s manual and scrolled the the various functions and settings in the infotainment display, all to no avail. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
