  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just traded my Lexus IS350 yesterday for a 3.8 Genesis sedan with ultimate package. I noticed that the adaptive cruise control sensor has something that resembles adhesive on it. Upon closer inspection I noticed that it didn't appear to rub off. I asked the dealer and they said they were all like that. I looked at the other cars in the lot, and sure enough, every Genesis they had looked like this. Has anyone else noticed this, or is this something bizarre that I should have them look at? The sensor seems to work well...just doesn't look great when you pay attention.

Mine is perfectly smooth like shiny, black plexiglass. There is no adhesive/residue substance on it at all.

I was afraid of that. Oh well, I'll get them to look at it at my first service. Wonder why they had 4 cars that all looked like that? Even the financial manager's personal car...which was a Genesis.

I had my car for a couple of months before I managed to get all the little protective plastic bits and pieces off in the interior. They are hard to notice until they start to lift a bit at the edges.

They did get the plastic off my ACC sensor, though, before I took posession.

Agreed - mine is almost 1 year old and I just pulled off a plastic sheet under the dash steering wheel area that I never noticed until the edges lifted...

I was just wondering about this. I've had my 3.8 Ultimate about a month now and was washing it and waxing it when I noticed the strange stuff on the big sensor/radar "box" on the grill. Mine apparently has the same "stuff" on it yours does. I tried to polish of a little bit of it on one of the corners but it didn't seem to polish out.

It almost looks like it could be a protective plastic cover with air bubbles in it, but I can't find any edge where it could be pulled up.

I had the same issue. Looked nasty. It came off fairly easy when I ran it through the car wash (not touchless) a couple times.

Ok...I just came in from seeing what I could do about getting "gunk/stuff" off the SCC radar box cover.

I started with naphtha which is a pretty good degunker on nitrocellulose lacquer and is usually safe for automotive & some other types of finishes. I used it to degunk the adhesive left over from removing the flying H on the trunk and it worked quick and easy there.

The first spot I hit with some naphtha on a small portion of a detailing towel seemed to take some of the gunk away really quick, but it also seemed to stop working pretty quick. I rubbed over the spot with a clean dry portion of the towel and that got a little more off. Next I went to WD40. I really saturated a small spot on the towel with WD40 and began working on the gunk. Some came off fairly easy, other spots required repeated applications and lots of elbow grease and switching to a clean, dry towel at times to rub some of the gunk away. It doesn't roll up and roll off like some adhesives do, so just have to keep working at it. When you don't seem to be getting anywhere, it's time saturate new spots on the towel with WD40 and repeat until it's all off. It took about 1/2 hour and lots of sweat since it's 90° out with lots of humidity.

I had to work on this in the garage as I don't have a shady spot to work in until late in the day. So that added some more to the heat and humidity factor.

After I got the gunk off I used naphtha to clean up the WD40. Took several wipes and changes to clean towels to get it off and dried out. Then I followed that up with some Turtle Wax Express spray wax. Looks nice and clean and shiny now.

Good luck!

A little goo gone and some elbow grease...and that gross stuff is gone now. Guess it was some adhesive residue left from whatever was covering it. That stuff was tough. Looks perfect now though!
