Having mutiple brake sensor issues and the dealer is trying to say its because of the 20"s on the car. The car has 32k miles and 20" wheels have been pn the car since the 1.2k miles mark. Hyundai said the same after calling the warranty department. We put the stock wheel back on and brought it back to the same dealer. We have been to 4 other dealers in the pass w/o any issues. It at the dealer now. I will keep you all informed

We hated pulling the stock wheels back on because this car rides alot better with 20" wheels. Its like the 4.6 should have came stock with those.

How exactly was the dealership justifying that the size of a rim had anything to do with the brakes?

Having all four wheels/tires the same, even 20", would not cause powertrain issues. Also would not caus ESC, ABS, or any such issues.

HOWEVER, if some were 20" and others were different sizes, this would/could cause problems.

BTW, I don't see having 20" wheels/tires causing you to have a better ride. The sidewalls of the 20" tires have to be much stiffer than the stock 18" tires. I don't say I don't believe you, I'm just saying I don't see it happening.

The part that went out was the hydraulic electronic control unit. Its been replaced. I personally dont think 20" has anything to do with this as most cars of this size has that availablity. Also had all recall updates performed.
The service manager did start to do some back tracking off his statement. Long story short is we have the car back and all is well.

What the heck is a Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit? I've heard of the Engine Control Unit and the Transmission Control Unit, but not a Hydraulic ECU.

Not only are the sidewalls stiffer on a 20" (compared to 18"), there is more rubber/air to absorb the shock on a 18" tire (for a given car) since the overall diameter of both tires is usually very close to the same (assuming the 20" tires are lower profile). In other words, with a 20" wheel, there is more metal and less rubber/air between the center of the wheel and the ground compared to an 18" tire/wheel combination.

I even tried to build a Genesis on the factory website. There are no other options for wheel size except the factory size.

I not a legal eagle so I dont know if this would be covered under the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act or not. Hopefully someone doesn't have to find out the hard way. This sucks if your warranty can be voided on this issue

Have your Dealer read the Magnusson-Moss act. This federal law prohibits them from denying your warranty work unless they can provide objective proof that your parts directly caused the failure.

Hyundai is saying the same thing. Apparently they are not familar with our laws.

I am not a "legal eagle" either, but I do know that proof has to be shown by the dealer if your "aftermarket" parts caused the failure. You are innocent until proven guilty.

Do you have any friends/family in the legal world? Sometimes a quick letter from a lawyer will set things straight.

Why go through all that trouble. Stick with the stock wheels, or if you really hate the looks of your stock wheels, at least stick with the stock size on custom wheels.

This is really good common-sense advice. Just thinking about getting into a legal challenge gives me a headache.

Wait, what? Are you actually telling this guy that it's "really good common-sense advice" to let the dealership break the law by pushing him into not doing something he has every legal right to do? I don't know why there's such a kow-towing, submissive attitude among American consumers lately but it pisses me off. It's like Apple saying "jailbreak your phone and lose your warranty" and a bunch of people going "Ohh, ok, well guess that settles that" - No, it doesn't. Just like your car, Apple has to prove that your software caused some damage - otherwise Dell could deny you warranty coverage for having Comet Cursor, a hacked bios, customized drivers, or even Ubuntu...

Thank you for this post. I was going to write something very similar. I too, am tired of people just bending over and taking it. You'd think everyone was spoon fed by the goverment these days.
