Intake Update
Airbox & KN Panel vs. HKS mushroom & custom shield

I had the K&N panel filter for around 2year, and was happy with its results combined with my custom silicone intake hose .
Few months back in March I removed stock airbox assembly and installed open HKS fikter with heat shield to protect from heat soak. That initially had shown little of performance feel with real noticiable sound growl.
BUT
After a while I started to feel drop in performance (from dig or from rolling). And with real hot weather fronts in oast weeks, that drop became very noticiable that every time i pushed the pedal i started to doubt in many things might be causing it (spark plugs? tranny? clogged injectors? ... ).
Luckily, before starting to dig in those routes I watched a youtube clip I had seen couple of years ago about Cones Vs. Panels:
So I thought that's an easy check before I blame it on bigger $$ issues. And went ahead put back OE airbox with K&N panel.
> Smile is back on my face fully while driving (from dig & from rolling).
>> Seems with summer heat added, even that heatshield wasnt doing a good job, and the stock airbox is really well designed for good flow (combined with high flow K&N panel filter).
>>> Unless you get a full induction intake kit with completely sealed box around the filter getting air totally from outside engine bay .. you are best to keep OE airbox (w/ K&N Panel filter).
