If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Edmunds Inside Line 2009 Hyundai Genesis V6 Long-Term Test Wrap Up
We experienced no significant mechanical issues of note during our term with the Genesis. Maintenance intervals arrived every 7,500 miles and were reasonably priced, totaling just under $300 for 22,000 miles of driving. An airbag control unit recall was the only service item out of the norm. And a visit to the body shop after we misjudged a tight parking spot marked the only time the Genesis was out of service over our test.

Total Body Repair Costs: $650
Total Routine Maintenance Costs (over 12 months): $291.29
Additional Maintenance Costs: None
Warranty Repairs: Airbag control unit replaced per recall
Non-Warranty Repairs: None
Scheduled Dealer Visits: 3
Unscheduled Dealer Visits: None
Days Out of Service: 4
Breakdowns Stranding Driver: None

Read that earlier in the day and couldn't help but to chuckle at these two comments...

Hyundai had Lexus in mind when it built the Genesis. And that was clear by how the car drove. It began with a forgiving suspension capable of Lexus levels of composure over all surfaces.

I drove for about 40 miles in reasonably heavy snow conditions. And I admit I drove very gingerly, but the Hyundai was sure-footed on its nearly new Dunlops, and only a few times did I feel the stability control system kick in.

I hear you, but you have to remember it's a composite of a number of drivers, in many different scenarios. If all you did was drive this car on the highway, you would think it was Lexus smooth. If all you did was drive this car in NYC, you'd need dental work. The guy who took it skiing, had a load full of kids and ski gear. I'm guessing the added weight had something to do with his perceived high level of traction, when it's been clear to GO forum members that those Dunlops on this car are useless in the snow.

You really should drive a GS460/350 some time. The ride is no better. I should know since I owned one, but don't take my word for it:

Everything is relative anyway. What's bad to you, may be good for someone else. For every person who dislikes the ride, there are 2 others who like/love it, which helps to explain Edmunds statements IMO.

TTT! ;)

Just re-read their wrap-up. Am I the only one that doesn't get the complaints pertaining to the gauges? Edmunds thinks they look cheap, but I think they look clean/uncluttered and supremely legible. I can see why some might like chrome rings around the speedo/tach or even a different font, but I can't imagine the omission of the latter was due to cost cutting, and how much could chrome rings cost....$2?

For comparison.....

Nice pictures. Yeah, they're pretty basic, nothing great, but nothing bad either. How many times have you gotten into a car and said wow what great instrument clusters. It's not a integral point for me. I'll take function over form all day. But I will say they're nothing special. Look better at night, with the lighting of the car, which overall is great.

Great point TJ. There is only one car that I have actually noticed how nice the gadges looked. The Subaru Legacy GT Limited witht the Electroluminescent gadges with the red outline. Beautiful;)

I think what's great about the car is the composite of many good things. Sure there are things lacking, every car is lacking something. All things considered, it's a nice package, without being overly ostentatious or austere. It's hard to make that balance without looking like you're trying too hard. It's nice without being too nice and it's affordable without feeling cheap.

That's just it, I DON'T think the gauges are average. I think they're very nice actually, but what do I know? :)

I just watched Modern Marvels and they had the KIA Plant in the program. Anyways, they showed some of the gadges in a KIA SUV, and I thought it looked better then the Genesis gadges.

I am only talking about the Gadges without the gadge lights on. Once illuminated, the Genesis gadges look amazing.

When you have to reach so far for a complaint that you come up with the IP, its a safe bet the car itself is pretty solid.

Imo the gauge cluster looks most like a Mercedes Benz, but that's because Hyundai uses the same font.

I too saw this program as well...pretty cool! I really like the new Sorento. Link for those curious: http://www.history.com/interactives/start-to-finish/#/kia

You obviously prefer red/white gauges (hence your fondness for the gauges in the Sorento and prior-gen Legacy). I'm not sure I follow your comment on the Genesis gauges since they're always illuminated day or night.

Here's the Sorento gauges for comparison.

It's much easier to see the sorrounding blue back-lighting on the Genesis at night with the lights on, that's all I meant.
