  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2010 Genesis 4.6, 375hp or 385hp

Hyundai announced that 2010 would have 385 hp but did not actually start production until mid April 2010. Somewhere in this website the actual press announcement is located. The Genesis website did not list the 385 hp in the specs until late in the 2010 model year. I was checking this until I bought mine a 5/10/10 build. There was a lot of confusion at that time about the availability of the 385 hp upgrade and when it actually came to be.

If what you say is the case, then... wouldn't your VIN# tell you what model year you have? That should solve it - if it was built before the cutoff date, wouldn't the VIN# say MY'09?

I actually don't know... just guessing here.

The sticker on the door jamb tells you exactly when your car was built, month, day and year. No need to try to decipher the vin#. If it was built before the mid April start then it is 375hp, after mid April then 385hp. I forget the exact day but if you search for it you can find out.

I went to the official Hyundai website and emailed them about this and got the following response today from Hyundai Consumer Affairs: "2010 Genesis Sedan vehicles produced after March 1, 2010 have an extra 10 horsepower (HP) increasing the HP to 385 when using premium fuel and 378 HP when using regular fuel. Since your vehicle was produced on March 9, 2010 your vehicle has the additional HP."

I emailed back my thanks and said that with or without the extra 10 HP I love the car (I doubt if I would even notice the difference, anyway...)

Thank you for posting this. I now know that my Feb.18,2010 build date Genesis has 375 HP.
In Dec . 2010 I purchased a new MacBook Pro. In March , 2011 the updated MacBook Pro was in the stores. I missed being able to return mine and purchased the Updated by two weeks.

You should definitely get it looked at if it only has 175 HP.

Ok, I told you I had a new MacBook Pro my fingers are slipping all over the place. I have corrected my post to 375 HP.

I was just yanking your chain. :grouphug: Enjoy the Macbook pro, I did the same thing a year ago, missed the update by a couple weeks. Sometimes I hate Apple's secretiveness.

I waited and waited and waited for that updated Macbook Pro! You just have to read the right rumors I guess.

Sorry MHT if this news made you feel bad...as I said, I doubt if either one of us would even notice the difference in HP if we drove each other's cars. I also doubt if 4.6 Genesis sedans produced after March 1, 2010 will have a separate 385 HP listing in the used car guides or have a greater resale value. I will, of course, bring up the extra 10 HP at trade-in time, but what do you think that will get me?

I have had a 2009 and now have a 2011. My own seat-of-pants dyno concluded there is a material power increase with the 2011. It feels much more than 10 hp, more like 20 hp.

we need to see a dyno graph. all i know is i just took my new 4.6 on the parkway for a little "get to know you better" when no one's around and WOW. does that thing cook. i went around a new ES350 with a guy and his wife leaving the rest area (they whacked it as i was coming up on them at about 30-40) on the on ramp and i passed them violently. like i coulda sucked the paint off their doors lol up to 100 almost instantly. it may not be the quickest thing from a stop (4000lbs what do you expect?) but once it gets going....it goes:D

The 385 HP transition build date might be 4/28/10.
If you go to Hyundai parts search and look up drive shaft there are 3 listed.
1. 3.8
2. 4.6 before 4/28/10
3. simply 4.6
all are the same price

4.6 HP issue settled

If you go to Hyundai parts the 4.6 v8 replacement is up to 2/10/10
and beyond 2/10/10. So build date after 2/10/12 is 385 HP.:D

Re: 4.6 HP issue settled

Stock horsepower is actually 375 (regular gas) and 385 (premium) according to their website, what was the problem with the HP?

Re: 4.6 HP issue settled

The issue in a previous thread was what build date initiated the HP increase.:welcome:

Pardon me for asking, but why didn't you just post this info in the previous thread?

I'm far from an expert, but with all the things I've read online dealing with this subject, I'm quite sure your previous mechanic was/is absolutely wrong on this one.

The "type" of gas (what brand you buy) can make a difference in engine cleanliness because each supplier uses their own blend of detergents and/or additives, each with different "benefits". Octane alone has no bearing whatsoever on this.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
