  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

ATA - So from your post I assume you do not like how your 2014 Rspec seat is. How was your 2010 4.6 seat different? What are you going to do since you cannot get 2014 seat to fit? Regards, Dan. PS - is the steering wheel telescoping feature on your 2014 adequate? Does it telescope out as far as your 2010?

I hope no one minds if we continue to have a more detailed discussion on this subject in this section of the forum.

Dan, I might be in a similar position to ATA to be able to comment, so I will give you my impressions after driving 2000+ miles in the R-Spec, last night I drove the Mrs. 4.6 ;), and I found that indeed, I do miss couple of things:

The seat on the R-Spec is more ‘bolstered’ which tends cause some level of discomfort in the lower back, while 2009 4.6 you tend to ‘sink in’ the seat a bit more, in a way that ‘hugs’ the lower back, It simply could be the R-Spec seats have not settled in yet, but I doubt it, as there appears to be different padding arrangement while I was looking underneath the seats.

As far as R-Spec steering wheel, that is definitely a sore point: I like to sit as low as possible, as far back as possible, with my ankle ½ inch away from the accelerator, with the wheel extended back far enough for my left arm to be extended while it rests on top of the wheel, also the wheel ideally would be one inch high from my thighs (I know - old habits die hard :D). On the 4.6 the seating is perfect for me, in the R-Spec however, the wheel does not extend back far enough, nor does it go low enough to achieve the ideal seating position for me.

Unless I can ‘fix’ one of these issues, I would say the 4.6 is going on the next long driving trip.

The 2015 3.8 Tech that I test drove before I bought the R-Spec, and 5.0 Ultimate that I drove last week do not suffer from these issue at all, as the seating arrangements are much accommodating than the first generation in every possible seating position, and I did not experience the beltline issue mentioned by ATA, however like so many, I will be waiting for a year or two for the 201X so all the bugs are worked out, before I trade in the 2009.

ATA / Cut-Throat, what have you observed? Do you have a similar take?

Just like you I test drove all the 2015 Genesis choices. I'm 6'4" 310 lbs so seats are very important. I liked the 2015 seats in the tech package car, but they weren't as comfortable as the MB I had or a used 7-series BMW I considered, so it didn't seal the deal for me. So I bought a 2014 R-Spec because it rides with a more spirited demeanor. Before purchasing the car I called a local car upholstery shop about the seat and he told me he could do everything I wanted to do for no more than $650. So I called around to a couple other shops who gave similar pricing.

This way my car will have a seat that's even more comfortable than the ones in a 2015 and have the petter performance of the R-Spec...couldn't have a better outcome:). I'll get the work done in late July or early August and will post pics and specs. Really wish I bought the R-Spec instead of my XFR in 2011. They were so new I don't think the salesperson knew anything about them so the test drive was unimpressive. I knew once that lease was over the Genesis was the car for me.
