  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys,

I've had the car for a couple of months now (low milelage) and I've been recently noticing that its been getting hard to get into 2nd gear.

Its not grinding but it takes some effort to get it in gear and there is a crunching sound as I manuever the shifter. I thought that it was because of the cold but its also reproducible on warmer days. Sometimes this issue isn't present.

I was wondering if you guys had similar issues with the 2011. What do you think the issue is? What is the solution?

Sorry but I do not understand your question since the tag says you own a 3.8 sedan which has an automatic transmission. However if you are having a problem take it to the dealer for the free warranty repair.

sorry. good catch...I own a 2011 genesis coupe 3.8 manual. I registered today to bring this issue up.

Anybody else have this issue. I was wondering if this is pretty common. Should I take it to the dealer or leave it alone if its a common problem.Thanks.

I suggest having your dealer check the clutch to make sure it is working correctly and you may want the dealer to check the shifter also for adjustments. I hope others in this forum can be of more help.

the dealer said they couldn't reproduce the problem after only driving it one mile and doing no other tests. This is exactly as I expected as the problem isn't always there. Therefore they said they can't do anything.

At least couple times a day this problem still occurs.

Do you think its a matter of breaking it in more (current mi ~2200)?

Is the dealer and hyundai still responsible at this point if down the line this is an early sign of a bigger problem?

Don't worry about it?

Thanks for the feedback

Mine is shifting to 2nd fine (great really).

However, if I were you I'd keep a log on the problem - buy a cheap calendar and each day that it happens write down on the calendar how many times it happened.

Every so often call the service department and tell them it is still happening and whether or not the frequency or difficulty is increasing. If it gets worse than "random/occasional" take it back again. Whenever you call the service department or take it back record the date and the name of the person you talked to on the calendar as well.

It may get better, it may not. If it gets worse and repairs are required you've got a nice record of dates and names to support the issue you've been trying to get them to fix.

Good luck with it.
