2011 Equus Signature caught fire, now totaled
On the evening of March 31, 2013 after taking my grandchildren to lunch for Easter. I came home about 6:00 PM and parked my Signature in my garage. The next morning about 8:15 AM I went out to the garage (attached) and noticed a brown film on the inside of the windshield. I walked to the driver side and noticed the side windows also with brow film, I opened the driver door and was shocked to see the driver front seat had a hole burnt all the way through to the floor, the left side where the lumbar and massage switch was located was melted.
The fire was out but we called the Fort Bend Fire Department. They came out and called the Fire Marshall, he told me that the car was very air tight because the fire did not break out of the interior but burnt itself out for lack of oxygen.
Hyundai Corp. has been notified and I had the car towed to Hub Hyundai Katy Freeway. I told Hyundai I fully expect a replacement of a new Equus and the items in the car that were destroyed to be replaced and the smoke smell that was in the garage and seeped into my home to be restored to normal. I further informed them that I would not file a claim with my insurance but rather expected Hyundai to take care of the claim since the fire was a result of a serious defect in their automobile. My wife and I feel we were lucky that our home did not catch fire and that we were not injured.
I am writing this to make other Equus owners aware!
