  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When driving slowly (such as in a parking lot), if I try to pull out onto the highway and step on the gas, nothing happens. The car doesn't die, there's just no pickup. This lasts about 4-5 seconds, then the transmission catches the car accelerates normally. I can avoid this by switching to manual mode (if I think of it). It doesn't happen every time but often enough to be a scare. I live in Central Texas, could it be heat related??

Thanks for any insights or experiences with this problem.

Go and test drive one from the Lot.. if it's the same - what can I say..
If the Lot vehicle is more responsive then it's a visit to the Service Department.
Has the vehicle been regularly serviced? has the vehicle started using more fuel than previously? any oil/fluid puddles under the vehicle after parking overnight? -------

The 2009-2011 V6 has the Aisin 6-speed transmission. Starting in 2012 Hyundai starting using their own 8-speed design. The Aisin (about 50% owned by Toyota) 6-speed is an excellent transmission with proven design.

Like most transmissions, the Aisin has a learning mode that can cause some hesitation until it learns your driving style (especially if someone else has been driving the car), but not sure whether that is a factor in your situation. I would try and see if you can quickly accelerate without flooring the accelerator. A lot of modern cars seem to discourage flooring of the gas pedal.

If you take it in for service you will have make sure you can reproduce the problem for the service advisor, and even then they might claim it is normal. But there might be a TSB available for the ECU or transmission that could help, so you can ask them about that. I have been very happy with the transmission on my 2009 V6.

Genesis transmissions use synthetic transmission fluid, and only need service every 100K miles, so it is unlikely you need a fluid change.

Another possible problem is the throttle actuator, which has failed (or been intermittent) on some Genesis cars. You can search the forum on this subject and see if your problem sounds like the others. People have had a hard time getting this fixed because Hyundai typically does not want to do anything if the problem cannot be reproduced. You might have complain directly to HMA after you have read all the other posts on this subject in this forum.

I'm not sure it's the fault of the transmission. I've had 3 cars (all different models) that do/did the same thing.

One was a Buick Park Avenue Ultra w/supercharger.
Second was a Hyundai Azera 2008
Third is a 2002 Toyota Highlander

None of these three cars have anything in common, yet all three had that stalling issue when I was traveling on an interstate and cruising at a steady (but too slow for me) speed. No up hills or down hills, just flat level cruising. If I'd punch it all the way to the floor and pull out into the adjacent lane, each of these three cars would just bog down for a second or two (seemed much longer, right?), then everything would catch up and the cars would accelerate normally.

Wish I knew of a fix but the point is none of these cars are any where close to the same and have the same problem. I think it has to do with a fuel injection issue more than anything else, but, that's just a WAG.

Since it sounds like it's a new problem, I wouldn't waste a moment getting it to the dealer for a check. In other words, there is no magic fix available here.

I live in Central Texas too, and have a 2011 with the 3.8 engine. I do not have any of the stall conditions you are having. I don't think it is the heat. Best to just try and reproduce it with your dealer.
