  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Apologize in advance if I am posting in the wrong forum. I have only found one mention of a misfire problem related to 2009 Genesis and I am trying to learn if someone has more information on this problem. Purchased a new Genesis Sedan 3.8, 2011 model. After about 1500 miles it developed an intermittent engine misfire when idling. At the first repair told it was a bad batch of gas. Dealer used gas additive and said it should go away after three tankfuls.

Problem continued and at second repair appointment they used a combination of gas and gas cleaner under pressure-told to switch to 93 octane gas. I generally have used only Chevron in all my cars. Problem is continuing and I plan to return the car to the dealer for further evaluation. The dealer has confirmed the problem exists while in their shop. To my knowledge no error code is found. I assume that what tests they have run on the fuel pump, sparks, etc., show them to be functioning normally. My experience has been as follows:

Occurs intermittently when engine is idling in traffic or at a traffic light, with & without AC on, and transmission in D or N.
Sometimes subtle with no movement of RPM indication – can see fluctuation with more violent misfire.
Can also feel engine torque against motor mounts through floor mats and seat. Engine appears to shudder.
No awareness of engine hesitation on acceleration.

The dealer has been helpful and I have been told they have been in contact with Hyundai Tech Support but no resolution of the problem as yet. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to shed some additional light on the subject.

It certainly sounds like the fuel pump could be suspect, so I would confirm that they checked it out. Absent that, I'd suggest checking the throttle position sensor. There are several threads here regarding the throttle position sensor, but I haven't heard of this problem cropping up in the 2011 models, only the 2009s. Good luck.
