  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2011 Genesis vs. 2011 Chrysler 300c

One thing I will say about the Chrysler's styling is that no one will call it "derivative.."

Other than being derivative of the '10 300. Did not like the "gangster" 300's but this car looks to be a bit more refined. They may offer an executive series that has some serious high end cosmetic touches.

I rented a Chrysler 300 this past weekend and thought I would chime in. I found the suspension on the 300 more appealing for everyday driving, but when it comes to fast cornering, I hated it. So that aspect of it was more or less a wash for me.

Other things I liked:
Trunk opens up when you pop it
Folding rear seats
Nice leather on the seats
QUIET!! The Genesis is quiet, but the 300 was much quieter inside
The info center was different, maybe slightly better than the Genesis. I'd need some more time with it to be sure.

Things I didn't like:
Awful seats! (my back hurts thinking about it)
Transmission was quite noisy
I was shocked to find the engine had 290hp, felt like <200
iPod control wasn't as good as the Genesis (and that's saying something)
Styling, the new Charger is much nicer looking
Rear-view camera (the display was stretched vertically, it made it look fake)
Audio wasn't up to Lexicon snuff (except for maybe the sub)

I am going to drive a 300C as soon as dealer in my area takes delivery. Tranny for V6 will soon be replaced with 8 speed. I think part of the problem is that the V6 does not have enough torque and tranny is continually working hard finding the right gear. Will not likely be the case with V8 with almost 400 ft pounds of torque. When opting for 20 inch wheels, suspension upgrades are applied. One thing for sure is that it does have all the bells and whistles and is priced about the same or bit less than the 4.6.

Your input is much appreciated regarding pros and cons of the Chrysler. Do you know if that car had the standard amp/speakers or the optional Alpine unit? What are the shortcomings of both the Genesis and Chrysler ipod interface?

I feel like I did see Alpine, but I can't be certain. The thing that annoyed me most was that you can't play a playlist on the Chrysler from your iPod.

I'll find out for certain on Saturday, when I see them at the show. My boss went on Friday, and he told me the cars that impressed him the most were in fact the Chryslers.

Me? I'm still not sold.

Thanks Gambler. Ruissimo- I look forward to your assessment of the Chrysler. They have several models there. The 300C RWD is the one I am looking at. They also have the '12 executive 300c and the '12 300S with 8 speed. Heck of lot for the money but the downside is the unproven track record of the reorganized Chrysler Corp. If I did it, I would consider 2 years of extended warranty for about $1800 just for piece of mind. Would bring the cost up to about $45K MSRP.

i looked at the new 300c i didn't like the outside, too "smooth" in my opinion what made the original new 300c appealing was it's subtle rugged looked, aggressive, now it's smoothed out like a tamed lion, not very interesting (to me). the back seat has no where NEAR the legroom for passengers, no way to get around that. i'll be damned if i have to "move" my seat up for someone to not bump there legs in a full size luxury car, one of the things that sold me on the Genesis vs other cars in it's class. also i just feel like the Genesis oozes luxury feel, look, touch over the new 300c. i think of the new 300 as a rental car, sorry, just do..

look at this pic i just took of the cars in the lot of my timeshare. lok how the genesis looks like something from Germany and the actual car form germany just blends in with the surrounding rentals lol

in between the lame impalas.

to me the 300 falls right in line with the other cars in the first photo whereas the genesis even as subdued as it is, just stands out. in my opinion at least.

ps the 300c's front seats and nav unit are nice but the rest of the experience inside is lame and "too chrysler".

I know I made the right decision in purchasing the Genesis. I do think that the '11 300C is better looking than previous model years. Lost some of the gangster look that I did not like.

Its still a Chrysler, they have not built reliable cars since maybe the 50's and I hope they can turn it around, but there is no proof yet.

The fact that reliability was an unknown played heavily into my decision.

yeah the SRT version looks much better. the "glazed" the regular 300's over too much especially with the front end design. i t was the lines of that car that made it what it was, it's too smooth (which looks good on a Genesis) almost too "sissified" and i can't give up on the rental car stigma. any time i see a white one i think rental. one thing we will never be mistaked for is a rental, sounds like a small detail but it's big in my book.

Well.. what is cool is that you don't HAVE to get the SRT to have the exact look. All those changes, sans the engine.., are available if you want your base V6 to look like that.

I just found this video. Apparently I bought the wrong car, Chrysler says their 300C is better and provides loads of evidence in this video of why their car is better.

Yeah, and that wasn't biased at all.

LOL

Thanks for posting that. Seeing both those cars moving around, I can honestly say one looks like it costs TWICE its actual price, while the other looks like it costs HALF its actual price.

So it has better performance (from a much larger engine) - the first thing that attracts me to a car is looks, and that 300 don't cut it for me. Sorry!

I think what swayed the reviewer was the suspension differences. Maybe he will like the 2112 Genesis better.
