  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is the current thinking on a supercharger option on the 2011 sedan?? I have read the 8-speed auto is confirmed but have seen nothing new on the supercharger rumor. Thanks for any info.

My thinking...SAAWEEET! Add paddle shifts, 4-wheel drive, heated steering wheel , ditto the driver seat over to the passenger, adjustable shocks to the intercooled, supercharged Genny and it will be my '09 replacement.

Yes, enhanced performance version of the sedan would be very attractive. I currently am driving a 2007 Infiniti m45 sport whose lease ends in December and am moving to an area without an infiniti dealership. Researching, my top choice would likely be an enhanced Genesis sedan if offered. Fingers crossed.

That would be sweet. But very unlikely to happen, IMO.
Why? Because I'd be very pissed that I didn't wait another year. :D
On a serious note though, it'll be really sweet to see a higher performance variant of the Genny.

Ventilated passenger seat and electronically controlled pneumatic suspension would be enough for me.

1. Supercharger? Why? The 4.6 already has all the power that anyone would ever use. (this is not a race car).

2. 8-speed auto "confirmed"? I know no such thing. (If you read it on the internet, then it must be true).

Because of the fuel economy improvements with cylinder deactivation of course:) (8%)

More is, well....more FUN!!!

Yes, "confirmed" was a poor choice for comparing the liklihood of the 8-speed versus supercharged engine. However, that is one "rumor" (8-speed) that is showing up in sources that are not just repeats of each other.

My main focus is, however, on a performance version of the sedan. I see the other post on a possible "R" version with enhanced handling as well as speculation on engine performance upgrades--supposedly :D from interaction with Hyundai management. Since I am in the market for a car like the coming M56 with 420hp, etc., along with considering some low mileage used luxury performance sedans from others I was hoping for a competitively priced offering from Hyundai. Certainly that is a market that seems not to be contracting so I have my fingers crossed that Hyundai will follow.

I am not familiar with the release cycle for this sedan. If the 2011 would be availble early Fall then perhaps some "real" evidence would not be too far off?

Whatever transmission the Equus uses when introduced, will be the same transmission that will be used in the 4.6 Genesis.

As for 8 speed automatic transmissions, when will it stop. Will someone come out with a 12 speed auto? How about a two or three speed rear end? What about a seperate two or three speed transmission behind the regular ZF 6-speed? (see last paragraph) When will it end?

As for saving gas, that is a crock. My previous MKZ with a 6-speed transmission had the same overall ratio and RPM's in 6th (top) gear, as my Continental with a 4-speed transmission, in 4th (top) gear. The 6-speed got no better gas milage than the 4-speed. The only difference of any kind is that the 6-speed lower gears are lower than the 4-speed lower gears, so the car can "jump" out from a standing start quicker. Now, come to think of it, although my 02 Continental (4-speed) gets about 1 mpg worse than my Genesis on the open road, my two previous 98 Continentals, got the same as my Genesis on the open road. (the two 98's had 265hp and the 02 has 275hp).

Don't laugh. Many years ago, I had a British Sports Car, (Triumph TR3A, that had a "Laycock de Normanville" hydraulic Overdrive, operated by a switch next to the steering wheel. It was a two speed unit, placed behind the 4 speed gearbox. The overdrive operated in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. So, shifting the gearbox and operating the OD Switch, the car had 1st, 2nd, 2ndOD, 3rd, 3rdOD, 4th, 4thOD. Thr Triumph had the switch at finger reach from the streering wheel. The Austin Healey Sports Car had the switch on the gear shift lever. Flick the switch, and it sounded like an automatic shifting.

Yes I too remember the overdrive units on British sports cars. The MGB also had them as an option. Since the cars were so low geared back then due to pathetic engine HP outputs, the overdrive made for more relaxed highway cruising. The Healey O/D switch was also on the dash not the gearlever. Some Volvo's (140 & 164) were also fitted with the same overdrive option and they did have the switch on the gearknob.

Now, whenever I see a TR3 or a Healey, I look at it and say to myself, "How did I ever get in and out of that little car"? (today, it would take a fork lift to get me in or out of it). I purchased the TR3A overseas, and when I returned to the USA, and drove into my parents driveway, my father asked "where did you get that little peanut shell"?

If racing bicycles are any indication, it won't stop. Remember when they used to be called "ten speeds"? Well, they now have 30 speeds (with a triple chainring on the front). I think eventually transmissions will be infinitely variable between the low and high end.
