What is the current thinking on a supercharger option on the 2011 sedan?? I have read the 8-speed auto is confirmed but have seen nothing new on the supercharger rumor. Thanks for any info.
1. Supercharger? Why? The 4.6 already has all the power that anyone would ever use. (this is not a race car).
Don't laugh. Many years ago, I had a British Sports Car, (Triumph TR3A, that had a "Laycock de Normanville" hydraulic Overdrive, operated by a switch next to the steering wheel. It was a two speed unit, placed behind the 4 speed gearbox. The overdrive operated in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. So, shifting the gearbox and operating the OD Switch, the car had 1st, 2nd, 2ndOD, 3rd, 3rdOD, 4th, 4thOD. Thr Triumph had the switch at finger reach from the streering wheel. The Austin Healey Sports Car had the switch on the gear shift lever. Flick the switch, and it sounded like an automatic shifting.
Yes I too remember the overdrive units on British sports cars. The MGB also had them as an option. Since the cars were so low geared back then due to pathetic engine HP outputs, the overdrive made for more relaxed highway cruising. The Healey O/D switch was also on the dash not the gearlever. Some Volvo's (140 & 164) were also fitted with the same overdrive option and they did have the switch on the gearknob.
As for 8 speed automatic transmissions, when will it stop. Will someone come out with a 12 speed auto? How about a two or three speed rear end? What about a seperate two or three speed transmission behind the regular ZF 6-speed? (see last paragraph) When will it end?
