If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I have a 2011 genesis 3.8l tech with only 38,000kms on it. I have noticed a lot of 2015's for sale that are previous rentals at decent prices. I am wondering what your opinions are about buying these from a Hyundai dealer?

I am also wondering if it is worth the upgrade from my car to a 2015? The one thing I don't like is the 3.8l in Canada is standard all wheel drive. I like my rear wheel drive genesis sedan and the awd makes the fuel economy pretty bad.

I am also wondering if my 17 inch winter rims and tires will fit the 2015?

Let me know your thoughts guys!

You have an under 25K mile car...
How is it?
Garaged?
Extended warranty? Still able to buy it?
Think of it and: passion Vs reason...

The 2015 is completely different car - only sharing the engine and nameplate. Look at it as a new car and see if it meets your needs - not as a new version of your old car, but a completely different model.

i got out of my 2013 with 22k miles and got into a 15 5.0 and have absolutely loved it. Its a brand new car and brand new design, the 13 was essentially a 7 year old design. for me it was an easy decision.

Lie down until the feeling passes. Your '11 is barely broken in.

Not an easy decision.
While 2015 is newer and better there is a HUGE price difference.
I returned a 19K 2012 G1 that was just perfect. (replaced by 2015 G2 Signature)
But it was a leasing and the residual was 5K over reality.
I felt really tempted to buy it. But the high residual, the mandatory extended warranty and tax would spoil so much the financials that I got the 2015. (at a great price too)
The very fact is that an almost brand new wonderful car for around 20-22K is an outstanding car solution...

Now, being quite frank: should the residual of the 2012 be the right one I would simply buy and keep it.

The only point I'd have in mind: I think it is "dangerous" to have a high tech loaded car several years old without an extended warranty.

I changed from my 2012 into a 2015 a year ago and here are my observations, for what they are worth.
  1. The 2015 AWD is definitely heavier on gas. With my 2012 I averaged 9.3 l/100km in mixed driving while in the 2015 it is 10.3 l/100km. On long highway journeys in the 2012 I could get down as low as 7.6 l/100km while now the lowest mileage I have seen is 8.1. (apologies to my US friends for the metric readings :)).
  2. While I prefer RWD on the whole, the 2015 in Sport mode handles very much like a RWD car and there is no question that the AWD was much appreciated in last winters weather.
  3. I much prefer the styling of the 2015 in general and the interior in particular. The things that used to bug me about the Gen.1 model (limited adjustability and no cooling of front passenger seat, for example) are almost all addressed with the 2015 Gen.2 car.
  4. The weight of the AWD model is noticeable when accelerating and the car doesn't feel as quick as my 2012. Having said that it is still totally acceptable for normal driving situations.
In summary, if I were in your shoes, I would stick with the 2011 for now as even with the 'bargains' being offered, there will still be a hefty price differential to change models. I am also not a fan of ex-rental cars, regardless of price. Just my $0.02.

Well im tempted to pull the trigger! I love cars they are my passion but I really don't "need" a car and as I said mine only has 38,000kms. Decsions decsions...

Fyi an ex rental is about $32,000 woth about 30,000kms

Reality check. Get rid of a good car with 38,000kms and replace it with a used one that already has 30,000kms on the clock? Pay a bundle to boot. Makes sense?????

Maybe things are different up there in Canadia - but here in the US a former fleet vehicle cannot be CPO'd. This means no factory extended warranty is available. Plus you also know people often abuse rentals. If you are going to buy a non-new G2 - get a CPO. That's what I did. Took 13k off the price for less than 10k miles on the clock - and got the CPO coverage I then paid mere pennies for the B2B extended to 100k.

The way I handle that is to wear a paper bag over my head when I am in or near the car (with appropriate cutouts to see and breath) so that I will not feel ashamed to be driving such an old design.

You are one brave dude! If I were in your shoes I would use a body bag and not sure if I would cut out any holes. :D

Before I bought my 15 Genny last December, I first test drove a new 2014 that was significantly discounted. I did not like it. Then I test drove the '15 and loved it. Totally different cars. If you really like your car, I would stay with it for another year unless the cost really doesn't matter to you.

2015 is a wonderful machine. Piece of advice: stay away from ex-rentals. It is a real hit and miss. They are cheap for a reason...
Just my 2 cents...

Further to your initial inquiry, your 17" Winter Rims will not fit the 2015 AWD. The offset is different and the brakes are larger so most 17" rims will not fit over the brake calipers. I had to buy a new set of 18" winter rims and tires when I moved to the 2015 from the 2012.

Another plus factor for the 2015 that I forgot to list earlier is the huge improvement in the ride over the Gen.1 cars.

I bought a Previous rental 2015 Genesis 3.8 Luxury at Ajax Hyundai, it was not CPO, but still bought it from a Hyundai Dealer. The car was not perfect, mostly visual defects that you can squeeze into the deal to be fixed. I bought an extended warranty (at another dealership - 8 year 160k kms for $2813 and thats $450 off asking price, im sure you could swing a better deal). The deals are all the same for these previous rentals. ~32K - 42k kms for $32500 or so. Try swinging a nav update in there, if you do pull the trigger mine is behind 2-3 updates haha

Edit: im getting 8.5L/100km highway (avg 115km/h) and 14L or so City. 11L/100km Mix.

I too suffer the ownership of a Gen 1 Genesis. It's long paid for and running like a dream. Sadly, my tires were not recalled, my sunroof is quiet and the rear end doesn't clank. Pity me.
