  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2012 that was completely under water for a few days. I know the transmission is a sealed unit but I figure there has to be a vent hole somewhere on it. Does anyone know if this unit is completely sealed or if it has a hole somewhere to vent where water could have gotten into it? I am cutting this car apart to repair two others and don't want to throw out the tranny if it is most likely ok.

It's "sealed" in the sense that I don't think there is a vent hole. There is a fill plug on the left side towards the rear of it, then there is a level plug and drain plug on the bottom of the pan. On that note, I would drain the fluid and see if any water comes out. Water will separate and make its way to the bottom, so it should be on of the first things you see.

You will have to change the fluid and filter for sure because of a chance of contamination. The tranny is not air tight.
