  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 5.0 blown motor

What he is entitled to under warranty is not my point.

I would bet a lot of money that people who use that term ("motor" instead of "engine") are Motor Sport Racing fans, at a far higher percent of the population than the general public. The OP admitted that he blew his engine when he was manually shifting and drove it to redline, which is indicative of the type of driver I was referring to.
Mark, you post a lot here, and I respect your opinions. But you really aren't making much sense with this one.

I just thought it was interesting that OP used the term "motor." Hyundai uses the term engine, as I believe most people do. I know that in motorsports, especially NASCAR, they use the term motor. So I think there is a connection between they way the car was driven (manually shifting, typically all the way to redline), and the fact that OP used the term "motor."

I am not saying deepcolor is a professional race car driver, but I suspect he is a motorsport fan and is a wanabee, and those facts are related to the way the car was driven, and the fact that the engine blew.

At the end of the day, a car filled with the required fluids and following the expected maintenance schedule should have no issue surviving operation near redline. When an ECU tune is released, this redline will likely be raised because the manufacturer set redline tends to be very safe. There was an issue with the motor rather than how it was driven.

At least it was not the dumbest thing you've read all year!! :D

The internet is a big place and the vast majority of us will struggle to win this title from the most elite commentators :)

That's certainly possible. But I was not really commenting on the warranty, just the relationship between driving habits (driving to redline before shifting) and the use of the term "motor."

My comments are not really a serious subject, just an interesting observation on my part. I play poker and always looking for "tells" and I think I found one in this case.

I personally avoid buying houses. I only buy homes. :)

Only if they have a manual mode transmission.

Perhaps the following inspired the use of motor:

Hyundai Motor Company
Hyundai USA - at the bottom: Hyundai is a registered trademark of Hyundai Motor Company.

Hyundai apparently does design and manufacture motors.

Maybe we should ask him if he sometimes performs a two tire change. Or what octane gas he uses when he does a splash and go.

Not gonna lie. There is an awful lot of ****iness going on here.
If they are replacing the engine/motor under warranty he wasn't doing anything wrong. They do check ECU history and can check for abusive driving with their techs computers. Though I don't exactly know how.
My tranny started acting up again and they mentioned they have evidence that I've removed the esc fuse after hooking it up to their "scopes" Though they said that everything else looked fine and shouldn't cause any issues with them repairing or replacing the tranny. I definitely don't abuse my car but I do do a lot of "spirited driving"

The OP may drive his car harder than some. But without any proof I think a few of you should ease off a bit and quit making assumptions.

Making assumptions about what? He admitted he shifted manually and drove it to the redline (I assume on multiple gears and on more than one occasion).

This has nothing to do with the warranty, which he is entitled to.

I wonder how much history they would find in the ECU about shift points. I know it is possible to add devices to the ECU to record driving history, as some insurance companies do (drivers supposedly get a discount if they agree to it), but not sure about getting that kind of info out of the stock ECU. But even if they did find out, it still is under warranty.

The issue is that there is nothing to find. You can get the engine to approach redline in fully auto mode so there is nothing noteworthy about putting it in manual and my car nears redline at least once every day in auto mode. Nothing unusual taking place.

I don't know what you mean about "unusual." 95% of drivers don't reach redline on a routine basis. But that is not the point anyway. The observation was that someone who uses the term "motor" (used frequently in auto racing) may be more likely to drive to redline than the average person. That was my claim anyway. Nothing serious, just an amusing observation.

But I wonder if either you or deepcolor were acquaintances of a 2015 Genesis owner on this forum (who has read your posts saying you routinely drive to redline) whether you guys can test drive their 2015 Genesis for a an hour, whether they would agree to that. Maybe some would, but I would bet most would not.

Mark_888 you are making assumptions that because he says motor he probably abuses his car.

I drive a route every single day to work where I merge from a 50kph road to a 110kph highway. My car hits near Redline every single time. Does that mean it's being nfc abused?
I do absolutely understand the point you are trying to make. I just don't see why you are trying to make it. It is completely moot om this subject as warranty is covering it. Therefore hyundai has not found and evidence of obvious abuse.
It just sounds to me like the equivalent to an old man complaining about teenagers and their loud music and stupid clothes.
