"OP can look at the steering wheel. If it is all leather, it is R-Spec. If it has wood-grain plastic on upper part, it is regular 5.0 version (non R-Spec)."
Wait-a minute! Wait-a-minute! My R-spec (with 4th character a G ) has a leather steering wheel with dark brown plastic wood grain on the top. And ,yes, it's an R-spec with 19's, mats, all the options, and sport tuned suspension.
Are you sure those are the criteria?
My recollection is that the 2012 R-Spec had an all leather steering wheel in the US (may be different in other countries including Canada). What year is your R-Spec?Wait-a minute! Wait-a-minute! I thought that someone said the transmission shift points/etc might be different, although you are correct that the engine and transmission hardware are the same. That would't clinch it either. They are identical drivetrains.

Also, I thought there was some difference in the color of the interior trim plastic pieces (very dark or black color instead of brown wood color, but both plastic).
Canadian configurations of Genesis models (including steering wheel) are sometimes different than in the US. In the US, the R-Spec has all-leather steering wheel. These are decisions made by Hyundai Canada and Hyundai Motor America respectively.Mark_888:
My R-spec is a 2012. If you looked quickly you'd say it had black plastic on the top of the wheel. When I shine a naked light on it , it has a slight brown tint to it. Everything else is black in the interior. Yes, it is a Canadian car.
I also have a 5.0 non-R-Spec, 4th character is 'G', have wood in steering wheel and also woodgrain appearance dashboard, along with 18.0 in wheels. I wonder if the 'G' indicates the 5.0 engine, and not R-Spec designation.
I don't know if people are stealing R-Spec badges, but a lot of cars on the road without their OEM badges (not talking about Genesis per se) have been in an accident. These are usually just fender benders, and not of any real concern if the repair looks OK (or if one cannot tell if it has been repaired). Some people have a negative outlook on life and automatically assume that a car is somehow damaged goods if it has been in a minor accident, but I am not among those types of people.Even one poster saying "it was probably in an accident!!!!" My gawd...... some of us need more to do that's beneficial in life.
I'm having a really hard time understanding why so many peeps are trying to make the new owner paranoid about the difference between an R-spec and the regular 4.6L non R-spec. It's always the same ones who dissect every word and sentence of a post and ramble on and on and on and on and on and on and on............................. ha!

Who said anything about 4.6l... we are talking 5.0 non R Spec guy... and the goal is not to make him paranoid, we are just making sure he is getting what he paid for. Smh
Thanks Bigtugg.... case in point about dissecting every word/sentence. That was just a typo...... maybe one day you'll understand. *sigh*
