  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 5.0 vs 5.0 r-spec HELP!

I got 18's with woodgrain on steering but G with fourth character

"OP can look at the steering wheel. If it is all leather, it is R-Spec. If it has wood-grain plastic on upper part, it is regular 5.0 version (non R-Spec)."

Wait-a minute! Wait-a-minute! My R-spec (with 4th character a G ) has a leather steering wheel with dark brown plastic wood grain on the top. And ,yes, it's an R-spec with 19's, mats, all the options, and sport tuned suspension.
Are you sure those are the criteria?

This is crazy. All I know is that when I did a detail vin search mine came up as an r-spec. It has everything that you can visibly see. 19" rims, floor mats with R-Spec on them. The only thing it didnt have was the r-spec on the back. So I have no I idea how else you can tell unless you did a dyno test.

From my understanding the only difference is suspension and wheels

That would't clinch it either. They are identical drivetrains.

I agree with BigTug
This reminds me of trying to convince the buyer of my 69 GTO Judge that it was a real Judge. The problem was that it was an option package and not a separate model. It was the installed equipment that made it legit (when it went down the assembly line.)
Wish I still had that one.

My recollection is that the 2012 R-Spec had an all leather steering wheel in the US (may be different in other countries including Canada). What year is your R-Spec?

Also, I thought there was some difference in the color of the interior trim plastic pieces (very dark or black color instead of brown wood color, but both plastic).

I thought that someone said the transmission shift points/etc might be different, although you are correct that the engine and transmission hardware are the same.

That is correct .

My R-spec is a 2012. If you looked quickly you'd say it had black plastic on the top of the wheel. When I shine a naked light on it , it has a slight brown tint to it. Everything else is black in the interior. Yes, it is a Canadian car.

Things would be much simpler around here if folks, including those with 5,000+ posts, would simply update their user info to include their home location and some simple specs about their cars. Go to the menu tab labeled "UserCP" to do such things.

Canadian configurations of Genesis models (including steering wheel) are sometimes different than in the US. In the US, the R-Spec has all-leather steering wheel. These are decisions made by Hyundai Canada and Hyundai Motor America respectively.

I also have a 5.0 non-R-Spec, 4th character is 'G', have wood in steering wheel and also woodgrain appearance dashboard, along with 18.0 in wheels. I wonder if the 'G' indicates the 5.0 engine, and not R-Spec designation.

That makes more sense

I'm having a really hard time understanding why so many peeps are trying to make the new owner paranoid about the difference between an R-spec and the regular 4.6L non R-spec. It's always the same ones who dissect every word and sentence of a post and ramble on and on and on and on and on and on and on............................. ha!
Even one poster saying "it was probably in an accident!!!!" My gawd...... some of us need more to do that's beneficial in life. :p

I don't know if people are stealing R-Spec badges, but a lot of cars on the road without their OEM badges (not talking about Genesis per se) have been in an accident. These are usually just fender benders, and not of any real concern if the repair looks OK (or if one cannot tell if it has been repaired). Some people have a negative outlook on life and automatically assume that a car is somehow damaged goods if it has been in a minor accident, but I am not among those types of people.

Who said anything about 4.6l... we are talking 5.0 non R Spec guy... and the goal is not to make him paranoid, we are just making sure he is getting what he paid for. Smh

And most cars that were rear-ended were NOT at fault which means the other driver's insurance paid to get the car fixed. Now, I seriously doubt "most cars w/out rear badges" were in accidents and were fine w/out having their car completely fixed to include any badges that were destroyed.

No one on the face of the earth would know if "most" cars w/missing badges were in an accident. As stated earlier, some of us need more to do with our lives rather than come up with fairy tales and post them.

Thanks Bigtugg.... case in point about dissecting every word/sentence. That was just a typo...... maybe one day you'll understand. *sigh*

Shrug, if I'm missing something feel free fill freev to fill me in. I got a 5.0 non R-Spec but that's what I wanted. I opted out of the suspension and wheels/tires. My outlook on the matter was if I wanted suspension or wheels/tires I would do aftermarket. Granted for insurance purposes, I'm paying an R-Spec price.

I've had several vechiles with no badging on the rear of them and they had not been in an accident. Either I took them off or I had the dealer take them off before purchase. I just like a clean car.

So there goes your theroy of a missing badge because of an accident. :)
