If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 2012 automatic transmission shifting issues

They did a computer update for the transmission the other day. So far so good.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The computer update lasted only a week. I started having the same shifting problems again. i took the car back to the dealer. To make a long story short, they are going to install a new transmission. I have to wait for the paperwork to go through.

Odd. When they reset the TCU on mine, it immediately made things worse, and the shifting even harsher. Didn't help at all. It wasn't too long after that a new tranny was on order.

If you have this issue you need a new transmission...... Apparently there is an issue with a ring that breaks...

My car is in the shop now getting a rebuilt transmission put in....It was out of warranty....

Hard shifts can and do break hard parts inside the transmissions. GM 4L60E's would do this a lot with the sunshell.

If I had to guess the real issue probably was bad computer programming that led to hard shifts or a slip then shift which broke the ring.

I'm waiting for my transmission to arrive at my Dealership. I am in warranty; thank God. My transmission has been shifting well since I've been waiting almost two weeks. It's like Jekyl and Hyde....

Now I'm beginning to suspect mine might have a transmission issue with the 2012 8-speed. I visited a friend this past week, and I let him drive the Genesis, and on a few occasions while accelerating it did upshift a bit rough and we could clearly feel it, and he mentioned it. He accelerated a little more aggressively a few times but didn't mash the gas all the way down. This could be an issue just starting to happen, it did pass 53,000 miles.

I will be taking it in for an oil change soon and I will ask them to check it, even have one of the technicians drive it and see if they notice any issues.

They did some diagnostic test and found no transmission problems, but I have an appointment on July 5 where they are going to keep it for a day and drive it and see if they find any shifting problems, and they're going to give me something to drive for the day and pick up my Genesis the next day.

The new transmission arrived at the Dealer yesterday. They will install it on July 5th.

The shifts are smooth as silk now. I'm not feeling any delays and hard shifting with the new transmission. It's a huge difference.

I've got the exact same issue on my 2012 3.8L at 88,000. I bought the car used from a dealer about two years ago. I'm assuming I have no warranty but to be honest have no idea if a Hyundai factory warranty may transfer, or if it would have been 100K. Since it seems that I'm definitely going to need a new transmission does anyone know if there's a chance I have a warranty? Or has anyone had to do the transmission on your own dime, and what it cost?

The standard transferable warranty is 5 years or 60K miles (which ever comes first). The extended powertrain warranty is 10 years or 100K miles (which ever comes first), but only for the original owner, unless the used car was as a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) vehicle sold by a Hyundai dealer that extends the powertrain warranty to subsequent owners also.

If you are not sure if your car was a CPO, you can give your VIN to any Hyundai dealer and they can look up the warranty expiration on their computers that are hooked into Hyundai Motor America.

The MSRP of a new transmission is about $7,500, but some online dealer sites sell them for $5,300 (but shipping is expensive). Labor is extra. You can probably find a junked car transmission for less, but I would try and use one from a 2013 or 2014 model if it fits. Not sure whether a dealer that does the install would be willing to use a transmission you supplied. I have not heard of any dealers who tear down and fix Genesis transmissions, they are always told by HMA to replace them.

I assume that you know by now that 2012 was the very first year for the Hyundai 8-speed transmission, and Hyundai replaced a fair number of them on 2012 models under warranty (when warranty was still in effect).

How much did the rebuilt transmission cost? My 2012 genesis 3.8 is having the same issue.

Hello all, I'm looking for some help regarding a dangerous (albeit intermittent) issue I'm having with my 2012 3.8 v6 sedan.

A few months ago, I started noticing an issue in which the transmission would not shift smoothly to the next gear at around 25mph. Originally, it only seemed to have issues when it rained, but now it seems to happen regardless of weather conditions. I don't think this is related to the general lack of smoothness in shifting that I've read about on the forums here.

Typically, the transmission will shift smooth enough for a few days, but then shifting gets progressively more rough over a couple days until the car shudders to the point that it's physically painful. After that, it seems to return to normal for a few days, thus restarting the vicious circle. I did notice that the car will sometimes hit 3500 RPM before it finally engages the next gear (2nd or 3rd?)

I've taken it to the dealership twice, but they have been "unable to duplicate the issue" both times. (Bob Howard Hyundai, South OKC) - Most of the time their service is solid, so I don't think they're being malicious in saying they can't duplicate the issue.

Anyone have any recommendations/ideas?
mine is doing the same thing !
driving down the road it it goes into a false neutral rev's up to about 4000 rpm then slams into the next gear.

My 2012 3.8 liter V6 had this problem that started developing at 60-something thousand miles: the high revs at gear change in the lower gears, violent changes at time that caused the car to lurch. It was intermittent and they said they could not get the problem to replicate when I took it in. First time I took it in they reset the transmission and sent me on my merry way. Over the next couple of thousand miles it became more frequent. I finally took it back and they sent a tech out with me. We didn't even make it to the corner traffic light when he told me he knew what it was and to go back to the dealership. I had a loaner Elantra for weeks as I waited. It served as basic transportation but there was no joy in it. The dealer replaced the tranny and although the replacement sometimes feels a little hinky and in the first when cold it's a damn sight better. A few weeks after I had it back, the sunroof totally screwed up. Thank GOD I had, against my usual custom, gotten a service warranty when I bought, because when the dealer rep sat down next to me to explain the problem and it would be $2700 to fix, I was about to be through with Genesis.

Regarding the trasmission, there is a service bulletin I saw online that showed transmission problems across various Hyundai models from 2007 (I think) to 2013. The 2012 3.8 V6 Genesis was smack dab in the middle of it. When I took mine in I made sure the dealer knew I had seen it.

I have the exact same thing with my 2012 genesis, I bought mine from a private party so the warranty does not follow the car but I bought warranty with my bank except the dealership can not reproduce the problem and then no warranty is any good! it does it for a few weeks then drives nice, it is just a viscous cycle with no relief! wrote corporate and there is nothing they can do! Their suggestion is I try to make an appt and guess when I think the car will be having problems again since the dealership can only make appts a month out!The transmission is dangerous in these years cars so I guess I'm going to pay a dealership to trade my car in but never another Hyundai I'll give my money to a chevy dealership just so I dont give it to Hyundai!

Hello can anybody give me any detailed updates on how this problem was solved.
