  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone have the original window sticker for a 2012 Genesis 5.0 GDI Sedan, with Navigation? I just purchased it, and am curious what options came with the car. I know it was built in Oct-2011, and purchased in Los Angeles in March 2012. It is NOT an R-Spec model (because of wood grain and light interior). The VIN however does translate to R-Spec.

All the same options as R-Spec except:
  • Different steering wheel
  • Different Wheels/Tires
  • Stiffer Suspension
  • Differences in transmission shift points (not major differences)
  • Minor differences in trim (such as those you mentioned)

I don't think there were any meaningful differences other than above.

I have one for 2012 5.0. Need to dig it out. Might be Saturday... I agree with Mark except for one difference... The sticker definitely shows the higher end Sachs system for the suspension... Only on 5.0 and r-Spec. Not 4.6 or V6 that year. The rest as noted is accurate. You will find the sticker shows the brakes, and other higher performance 5.0 motor equipped car. Makes this a sleeper. It is about $1500 less than R-Spec.. Which covers mostly trim, and the 19" wheels and gum shoe higher cost tires. Does not cover the added performance bits. The 5.0 has them. Sticker will show.

Regardless of what the sticker says, all 2009-2014 Genesis used basically the same Sachs shocks/struts. They only differences are the spring and shock/strut rates depending on the following:
  • Different shock and spring rates for front end of V8 vs V6 due to extra weight of the V8 engine (200 lbs heavier than V6)
  • Starting in 2012 they made the suspension softer. That included making adjustments to the spring and shock/strut rates. When they speak of an upgrade in 2012, they mean that they made it more comfortable, supposedly without loosing any handling control (although that is not likely).
  • The 2012+ R-Spec suspension was more like the 2009-2011 V8 suspension tuning, but with some adjustments (firmer for better handling than any of the non-R-Spec from 2012-2014).

If one were to look at the springs and shocks/struts of any of the 2009-2014 Genesis, you would probably not be able to tell the difference by the naked eye. The differences in spring and shock/rates are real, but not drastic enough to visually tell the difference unless you are expert. In most cases, Hyundai painted different color dots on the parts to identify the differences from one year to the next.

Note that shocks are on the rear, and struts are on the front, both made by Sachs (ZF) of Germany.

We will have different view. The single year the 5.0 (2012) I own (you have one too?) non R-Spec was made, it has same bars, springs, brakes, strut calibration (same part number to the T as R-Spec), engine/trans, etc. the performance difference is the 18" with rated Michelins, verses the 19" with gum shoes. That is it.. This is different than any 4.6, or V6 or any variant 2012-2014. As many have discovered (and posted here), the VIN is listed in databases for INS and taxes as a R-Spec. The only model beside a R-Spec that has same VIN designation.

I am not disagreeing with you.

However, all 2009-2014 have Sachs suspension parts, and they all look the same to the naked eye (even though there are many different "rates" over those years).

Hyundai changes the shock/strut and spring rates as follows:
  • Mid 2009 - minor change
  • 2010 - moderate change
  • 2012 - bigger change for most versions, making it softer
If you say that the 2012 5.0 non-R-Spec has the exact same suspension as 2012 R-Spec, I will take your word for it, but it is not a major suspension upgrade from 2011 4.6, despite any marketing BS to the contrary. What that means is they kept it stiff like the 2011 for better handling.

Yea, get that.. not claiming changes from 4.6 was transformational. One of the associates who works for me, bought a 2010 4.6. Ride is a bit harsher, seems to lean a bit more. He loves the car. Got it after being in mine for biz travel.

Most people think that the 2012 suspension (regular or R-Spec) is better than 2009-2011, but my point is that they all use basically the same Sachs shocks/struts and same springs, but just tuned differently. A person would have a very hard time seeing the differences with naked eye looking at the parts.

All the same options as R-Spec except:
  • Stiffer Suspension

Don't you mean a *softer* suspension than the R-Spec??

That would be GREAT!, if you can find your original sticker. My vehicle appears to be loaded to the max, but still not the R-Spec.
