  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is my first post as a new member of this forum. I have just purchased a 2012 tech package sedan and ordered a replacement gear shift knob (the one like the Equus with a set of wings on it). I can't seem to figure out how to remove the original gear shift knob. I found one site that said just put the shifter into Neutral, pull up straight up on the shift knob with some force and turn the knob slightly as you pull up. I have tried this with NO success.

Any assistance appreciated and my apologies in advance IF this post belongs elsewhere in this forum...

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Have no info on replacing, but woul be curious to know where you purchased the shift knob.

I bought it off Ebay for approx $40. It came in original Hyundai packaging and looks REAL nice, now I just have to figure out how to get the factory original one off that shift stick!

SO, I answered my own question.... I kept at it and can advise that the shift knob definitely just pulls off if you pull straight up on it BUT it does take a LOT of force. Once it's off, the other one I had ordered just pushed on, down and locked into place. :)

This thread is worthless without pictures!!! :p

Now here's another question for you, besides "Where are the pics?"

;)

Will the Equus DIS knob fit the Genny?

Yea I have to see pictures of this.

I stumbled across this thread to find out how to take out this doggone shift knob. Here are my pictures...

My first "mod" lol. :p

I keep trying to get mine off and i cant!!! Ugh!!! I dont want to break it either. Any advice?

From the pictures I have seen of the nob, it has a lock ring on the inside of the hollowed shaft of the nob. The ring seizes itself around a groove in the shifter's shaft. It is going to require some amount of force to get the ring to release.

Be sure not to rock it side to side too much as you don't want to break or wear away any of the parts. You can try giving a very small amount of twist while pulling up. However, it might be grooved to prevent twisting.

If the ring moves a little bit, the right amount of force will get it out of the groove so the nob can be removed. The instructions state "Be careful not to hit head on the ceiling of the vehicle" which indicates that when it goes, it will be spectacular! :)
