  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 Genesis Test Drive - 3.8 vs. 4.6

ok... after seeing 037's pics of his black '12 Genny Im leaning toward the black with saddle. Cant go wrong with black cars. That paint job rocks.

R-Spec not going to happen, at least for now. They wont budge on the MSRP. I did find three though, 1 not too far from here, one in Michigan and i think the last one was Atlanta?

that's ok, by the time they start coming down i may be in a new Grand Cherokee Overland Summit if she has her way. For '12 it gets the new trans and my wife is in love with it lol (one of our friend's just leased a new Overland with adaptive cruise)..

I tell you what, lately, the only time i ever own a car for more than a year is when i lease them. she loves the car but hates that everyone ELSE (where we live) is still SUV/Trucks, she claims she can't see around vehicles and after 7 years of driving SUV's she's not sure if she can remain IN a car.

I have to find a new hobby, maybe Gambling or plastic surgery for the wife lol, they'd be cheaper hobbies!! (truth be told i keep my equity about the same year after trading vehicles in, been lucky the used car market is the way it is, only owe $26k on this.

Did you get to see the r-spec? Crank it up and/or drive it?

No. only R-Spec i ever seen in person and sat in was the one at the NY auto show. which was the start of my hunt for this Genesis lol.

more questions:

how was the 8 speed tranny? was it smooth, or did you feel that it shifted gears too much?

how was acceleration from a standstill? i know some trannies start you in second gear so that it seems to hesitate. I really liked the 6 speed tranny in the 2011 V8.

lastly, do you remember any differences in how the cars feel between the 2011 V8 v 2012 V8?

thanks!

The 8 speed is butter smooth. You just don't feel it. It will start in second gear(at least) most of the time under slow acceleration. From standstill it almost feels a little subdued, like its holding back a beast. Its not the snap your head back in the headrest launch, more of a linear, constant push. I feel the 8speed is just smoother than the old tranny, but then again, I didn't spend days driving the old tranny either.

still waiting for a 2012 v8 here in California.

Anybody check Fitzmall's Clearwater website for an R-Spec? I see they have a grey with black interior on order-list $48,885 discounted to $42,879.

Wouldn't hurt to put down $500 to hold it.

There's one in stock in the Bethesda, Md. dealership-same list but only $500 off msrp.
Funny- doesn't show exterior or interior colors.

Just test drove a 2012 V6 Tech Black on Black Genesis....

OMG... what a difference from the 2009.

Its a completely different car. Its got a very solid feel. The steering is spot on. The 8 speed transmission is flawless and very quite. The suspension is awesome compared to the 2009. Its still firm which is ok. Speed bumps are nothing. Taking the corners at a descent speed, no problems. Seats seem to be a bit more comfortable. All in all its the car I really want. Now I'm just waiting on the V8 to test drive that.

Take care.

Seattle Genesis

Seattle my sentiments exactly! So much so that I did something totally out of character for me...I bought it after owning the 2010 version for only one year...not smart at all financially but then there is the heart and occasionally one has to follow it.

Vince,
Life is short. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Why does Fitzmall show 17 different V8's and they are ll different prices. I thought the V-8 was all in with options.

Small changes in price maybe due to accessories (eg. wheel locks, ipod connector etc.)

I will have to think 42k in MD is either pricing mistake or maybe there is demand there? It is currently on order so they will most likely change the pricing when it arrives.

That 30k one is def. V6 base due to MSRP

I did notice on the window sticker alot of factory accessories have been added to the 2012's such as floor mats, rubber trunk tray and a few others I cant remember.

i have walked away from a couple quickly. both new, one was a 2005 Grand Prix GXP (V8, just came out) and the other a '09 Tahoe LTZ. both 6 months, the GXP i took a bath in, the LTZ i actually came out even because it was a demo and had ridiculous incentives. paid $42k for it and got $42k on the trade (msrp was like $58k).

Like you said life is just too short to care about a couple grand, be happy.

My test drive of the 2012 Genesis 3.8 premium today was quite nice. With the improved suspension the damping over rough surfaces is better but as I have the same 2012 OEM tires on my 2010 4.6 the difference in ride IMO was slight.
I particularly liked the door chime, the milage display with the car, DRL lights and the improved ride. I would rather had seen blind spot warning over lane departure warning and height adjustment on the passenger side seat. I was not that impressed with the eight speed transmission but I was not that impressed with it in the 2007 Lexus LS460 that I owned. If my dealer were to call and make me an offer I could not refuse I would trade in a minute and yes it would be for the 4.6 but as my car is just a year old I am going to try and hold out for awhile, wish me luck.

^ Considering how the ride on your year old 4.6 is pretty decent, unless you get a great offer, just hold off until the next generation Genesis or the Kia K9.
