  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I test drove a 2012 3.8 Genesis today with a premium package. Although I believe I am primarily interested in purchasing a 4.6 by the end of the month I test drove the 2012 3.8 premium to see how the drive and suspension was. My decision whether to purchase a 3.8 with a tech package, a 4.6 or an R spec will be based on ride quality which of course is subjective.

After driving the 2011 I decided to wait for the 2012 and see how the ride was and if the ride was as harsh in absorbing road abnormalities then I was going to purchase a new MB E350.

I can truly say that I felt that the ride quality of the 2012 Genesis is dramatically improved over the 2011. The 3.8 now absorbs road abnormalities and although you now still feel them they are not harsh and very acceptable. I still think that the ride on the E350 is better but I cannot justify the difference in cost. The Genesis is quieter than the E350 and of course the Lexicon system is superior to the system in the E350.

The 2012 3.8 definitely had noticeable more power than 2011 and the ride was smooth over both highway, city, and country roads. I did not notice any issues with shifting with 8 speed transmission. I felt that the transmission was as smooth as the CVT in my present vehicle (a 2004 Toyota Prius that I will be giving to my daughter).

Before making a decision I need to drive a 2012 4.6. The steering on the 3.8 is electric and the 4.6 is hydraulic so I want to see which has better handling and feel.

All in all I believe that the 2012 is what the Genesis has been meant to be - a great car with a good suspension, road feel, quiet, impecable interior with great feature. I hope to purchase and take delivery before the end of the month and leave for my vacation drive from CT to FL.

The only question is 3.8 or 4.6 ???

The Genesis 4.6 has electro-hydraulic steering (not pure electric), which means that an electric motor drives a hydraulic steering system (see specs on website).

The steering is going to feel somewhat different since the V8 has 200 lbs more than the V6 on the front end.

pretty much the same impression that I had.

Hard to make a decision these days ...

Yep! My sentiments exactly. I drove a MB E 350 a day before testing the 2012 as well as the Lexus sedan (ES350 I think or whatever their bottom end sedan is) and I prefer the Hyundai. The 2012 version is a great car.
