  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Seems most of the press have nothing estatic to say about MY 2012 Genesis r-spec. Pity.

0-60 in 5.2 seconds? I thought the 4.6 did it in 5.3 seconds? What is wrong with this picture?

Some have a hard time swallowing that it's a Hyundai so they tend to be careful what comes out of their mouth!

Re: the video...I wonder if he pulled he fuse to that that last shot ;)

It's possible he can't drive very well, or that their test track doesn't have great traction. I know that sounds snarky but once you turn traction control off it takes a lot of skill to launch perfectly. I'm waiting to see Car & Driver's times. They test both maximum 0-60 and what they call "street start" where they start at a rolling 5mph (i.e. no smokey burnout) to get times closer to what most consumers will get.

Also, regarding the name of this thread, I wouldn't call a video less than 2 minutes long a "full test"!

I thought Hyundai claimed 5.7 seconds for the 2009 4.6 Sedan, and maybe a tad faster when HP was slightly upgraded in 2010 or 2011 (don't recall when it was upgraded).

I would doubt the 5.3 seconds number for the 4.6.

I'm convinced that the one to get is the new 3.8. It's lighter, you have much better gas mileage, and more than enough usable power. With the increase in power it wouldn't surprise me if the new V6 is as fast as the old 4.6. Now how it gets there is another story, as the two cars have different trannys. But all things considered, Hyundai has always been about high content and value. For the majority of people that will equate to the 3.8.

3.8 is plenty fast. 0-60 in 7.8 with 5 passengers...yea don't ask why I was even trying.

Also, fast enough for cops to hit with laser...luckily today is the today I got Escort Shifter ZR4 installed...or otherwise I'd be less than happy w/ a ticket.

5.3 for the 4.6 is correct.

It's been a long time since those 5.3 numbers came out so I don't remember where they came from but they're out there.

From wikipedia:

For the V8 model, Hyundai has reported 0-60 mph times of less than 6 seconds. Car and Driver reports a 0-60 mph time of 5.3 seconds, while Motor Trend reports a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds in their October 2008 issue.

That's exactly my point. There are various different times that have been reported, not including what Hyundai claimed. So to compare the 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds for R-Spec that Edmunds reports (claimed), you would have to know what Edmunds reported (claimed) for the 4.6 to compare them.

Even if Edmunds had a 0-60 time for the 4.6, one would need some kind of verification that the test of the 4.6 was conducted using same methodology (same driver, on same track, on same day) as the 5.0 test to accurately compare the difference between the two engines.

Anyway, those R-Spec wheels look ridiculous to me, especially when moving.

Haven't yet seen a review that dislikes the R-Spec; for those that seem to have a tone of disappointment, they were the ones expecting a real performance line Genesis - which the R-Spec is not.

Wait until Car & Driver or Road & Track give their 0-60 times.

IL is always on the slow end for their 0-60 times.

tried 0-60 twice today on 3.8, 6.8 seconds with ESC off, ECO mode off, lever in manual gear position and I allowed the car to shift for it self (retarded for a manual mode if you ask me).

the tranny kicked down hard...not very refined.

what are you using? have you used this equipment on another vehicle so you can compare what the advertised 0-60 times for "that" vehicle are against what you achieved? thanks for the info.

i stated this a while ago but i will express my opionion again. Hyundai loves TORQUE MANAGEMENT. given that well known fact (the time and reduction of power right as the shift is occuring from any gear on upshift and downshift) it would make me believe any gain the extra 2 cogs should give in all out 0-xxx performance would be negated as there's more shifting, something Hyundai will just not change (for good reason imo as this is how they can feel confident in their 10/100 powertrain warranty, something GM also does, the 100k part. and GM is a nother firm believer in ridiculous torque management.)

I was using Escort GT2 timer that I previously used on my Acura RL, it was fairly consistent between runs.

I was pretty dissappointed with what I saw as the car felt quick on the butt dyno.

Either way...it picks up speed fast enough and everyone should have a pair of these installed.

i can't find this video anywhere on the InsideLine site. strange...

also, he says 0-60 takes 5.3 seconds, not 5.2 seconds which makes it as slow as the first version with 375 hp.

not going to know until car and driver or motor trend does it. who knows what roll out they use, is it an average or the slowest, fastest time, etc etc. those other mags have are mostly performance oriented so i would trust them much more than "IL"

having said that let me give you my experience from all the mags with my last two performamce vehicles. they all had my TBSS running a low 14 second1/4mi and i was running 13.5s and even a 13.49 bone stock down to the filter, first time at the track with only 1000mi on it. second was my '05 Grand Prix GXP. same 1/4mi rating of 14.3-14.4 and i got that one down to a 13.6 and a bunch of 13.7's doing nothing other than perfecting technique. So given that i use all the mags numbers for a reference point but never gospel. only time trials at my local drag strips are what i trust "seeing is believing".
