We purchased our new car in March, with every package available. Our concern: From the first 100 miles the exhaust pipes have left soot on the white bumper above each and the oil is cloudy. My husband took it to the service manager who told him the soot was normal and it might stop at about 5,000 miles. There is no blue ( or other color) smoke visible. As for the oil, that, too, was normal.

We've never heard of such things. Are we being told the truth? I do wonder if the design of the exhaust pipes is flawed, plus it really shows on white paint. What's your experience, if any, with these problems? The car runs great and we are enjoying all the great features.

Normal... turns out stuff actually comes out of those exhausts. They are designed for style - not poorly designed.

It will come back but you should be able to polish it off.

Im sure there is nothing wrong with your oil either. Your dealer would advise on this

This seems to be a trademark of GDI engines (direct injection engines). Nothing to worry about.

Nothing to worry about. My direct injection BMW did the same thing -- perhaps a little worse.

It is an especially good idea to use synthetic oil for GDI engines, because as you can see, it is tough on the motor oil,

My car is white too and I have no soot whatsoever on my bumper.
IMHO I don't thing a gas engine should do that. This is common on diesel engines. My 2 cents
