  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Edmund's now has the 2012 Genesis listed with pictures. They have the arrival date as the Summer of 2011. The only change that I could see is 5.0 V8 378HP and 8 Speed Transmission. The outside of the car looks unchanged as well as the inside. It looks like the shifter remains as is. Price tag at $47,000.00.

Personally I am happy with the 4.6 V8 and 6 speed transmission. I had the 2007 Lexus LS460 with the 8 Speed Transmission and was not all that impressed. I like my Genesis but I think it may be a little to soon to put a $47,000.00 price tag on the car even if it is getting a 5.0 V8 and 8 speed transmission.

I bet Edmunds has an old, stock photo of the Hyundai Genesis Sedan in there. And the horsepower for the 5.0 liter Tau is wrong. I think that article has a lot of "fail" in it...

You are probably right ,the only sure thing is when one shows up on the dealers lot.

I also had a 2007 LS430 eight speed, I perfered the 6 speed in my 2003 LS, I think the lexus 6speed was a lettle smoother than the 6speed in my Genesis but the 4.6 Tau is superior. if the 2012 5.0 is still 375 HP they must be tuning for milage. I think I will stay with my 4.6 if that is the 2012 offer.

More gears mean more opportunities for erratic shifting. I've heard about this shifting issues with the LS460 and M37/56. In this case...."Less is More".:)

The 5 liter version will NOT remain at 375 hp. It will produce almost 430 hp and 375 lb-ft tq. Don't forget that the '10 model 4.6 puts out 385 hp which is already a 10 hp bump. Let me repeat again for the ignorant, the increased number of gears isn't only for fuel economy but is also to increase performance. I wouldn't be surprised to see mid to high 4's from 0-60 by Road & Track, unlike the unreputable review sites like Edmunds.. Stop justifying for something you've bought because something better is coming out shortly. Bocatrip is an exception to this because he doesn't even own one, just running his mouth about Hyundai something that he is not sure of... like guessing.

TROLL- We really don't care about your comments about the car and your demeaning of Genesis owners. Until you buy the car take your immature comments to another car site--

I was wondering if I was the only one to find this individual's comments gratuitous. Apparently not...

for your information, I am interested in the 5.0 Tau because it is reported (by my dealer) to be the engine expected in the Eccus, which I expect to buy when available. The statement that the 2011 Genesis with this engine would have 375 HP seemed to me to indicate the this engine with reported direct injection and 8 speed transmission must be limited for some reason, possibly economy. The LS's I owned did not increase in stated performance but were sold as being improved in operation, smoother and quieter, resulting from their 8 speed transmission. I expect your estimate of the 0-60 times in a 5.0 tau are probably correct. My interest lies not speed but in their performance as a luxury traveling automobile.

The car you are buying is Equus.. No C in the name.. Second it has a 4.6 Tau with 6 Speed for 2011. Third the 4.6 is currently rated for 385 Hp not 375...
5.0 and 8 Speed have been discussed since the TAU launched, but has not been delivered

Thank you, Equus, I stand corrected. Yes the 2011 deliveries will have the 4.6 with 6 speed, however the report is that the 5.0 eight speed will be available in later deliveries. I would expect to wait for the 5.0 My dealer states the fuel economy of the direct injected Sonata is amazing so I would desire the 5.0 direct injected engine. I expect the changes will come before the midyear Equus Deliveries begin.

I've always liked this forum for it's exceptionally friendly as well as receptive atmosphere. I'm glad it is also perceptive as well!

I test drove a 2011 V8 today.. Very nice and noticed a difference in the weight, handling and suspension over my early 08 V6.

Are the 2012's out already?

I find Edmunds to be just as reputable as Road & Track or any other car review magazine. Edmunds did state that the information that they had was subject to change. I am neither stupid nor ignorant I know exactly what the 8speed transmission was designed to do. Having own a 2007 Lexus LS460 I saw very little in fuel economy or performance from the 8 speed transmission and I was not alone. I like my Genesis far better than I did the LS460 and I think the performance and fuel economy of the 6 speed transmission in the Genesis is great. If the 2012 Genesis has an 8 speed transmission, 5.0 V8 430hp so be it ,that would not stop me from purchasing one if I was in the market for a 2012. For now I am enjoying my 2010 4.6, 6 speed transmission and the good gas mileage . I have learned through the years that more does not always mean better.
It was only a few months ago that the hp on the 4.6 was upgraded to 385.
I was the original poster and mention the information from Edmunds. I only posted to let those intrested know that there
was some information out on the 2012.

I don't see the Genesis getting the 5.0 V8 - Which they already have in their Equus Limos in Korea. Maybe the Equus here.

The next step is DI tweaks and cylinder deactivation, among other technologies.

Whatever transmission the Equus and Genesis goes to, I just hope that the transmission fluid costs a lot less than the Hyundai 1375.4 fluid for the 6 Speed ZF Transmission that now goes for somewhere around $75 a quart. (CRAZY! - Don't believe me? Price it at your dealer). Also Hyundai's 1375.4 fluid is clear, so if you wanted to change the fluid before the 100,000 warranty period is up, and if you wanted to use other fluids that meet the 1375.4 spec, all the other 1375.4 fluids are red, (Castrol Import; Mobil 1; Redline; Amsoil: and others) so Hyundai would decline any warranty work on the transmission. Sure, the transmission is warrantied for 100,000 miles, on the original fluid (fluid checks every 35,000 miles I think, but not fluid changes), but by 100k miles, damage has already been done inside the transmission, and even if you change the fluid after the 100k mark, you can't correct prior inside damage.

A friend of mine just changed the fluid in his 05 Jaguar XJR which uses the exact same ZF 6 speed transmission. Used Mobil-1 which cost him less than $8.00 a quart. Shifts great. He said that many guys in the Jaguar BB use the Mobil-1 in their Jags that use the 6 speed ZF transmission. No Problems!
