  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

my paint on the front bumper at the right hand side joint (as it bumps up to the wheel arch body panel) has started to flake off. The dealer is all over it and is is going to send it out to a body shop to deal with it (giving me a loaner too). Hopefully it will be resolved without issue. Another problem is that I have an invisibleshield on that bumper that the dealer said was for me to deal with the reapplication of. The flaking goes right up to and stops at the invisishield. Well if that costs $, I won't be too happy.

Out of curiosity I called Hyundai USA customer service to explain things. Surprisingly, they said that if there is $ out of my pocket (to still be determined) then they would consider taking care of that as a onetime courtesy.

I'll update this post as things get resolved (one way or another)

wish me luck.

update: they had to pull off my paint protecting plastic and repaint the entire bumper. IT should be done tomorrow. The bodyshop says that the invisishield can be immediately applied. The 3M applicator dude says 30 days, or no warranty, as the paint has to cure. 3M's website says only that the paint has to be fully cured. I'm in a bit of a quandary on this.

Anyhow, now to submit the costs to Hyundai....

I just noticed the same problem with my 2011 Genesis. Went to the closest dealer today and will have it painted this Monday. All covered under warranty. The service manager said it will take 2-3 days.

it will be just under $300 to redo the bumper (hopefully the big H comes thru). Also attached a before pic of the edge of the bumper where the paint is coming off. I just hope they match the paint. I told the guy about the metallic luster, so we'll see how they pull it off.

just an update: paint was done and looks pretty good. After all the back and forth on the paint, the body shop decided to write on the invoice to have me wait 30 days before applying the protector. I understand they are wanting to cover their butt, however now I have to hope nothing damages the paint in the next month. Luckily I'm doing some traveling and vacation time to eat that up.

Looks like Hyundai may come through. They've asked to review a copy of all the paperwork to reapply the protector, so at least this may end up OK in the end.

final update: Hyundai came through and cut a check to cover the reapplication of the paint protector. Their customer service is a 10 for me.
