2012 Premium Intermittent Freezing

I have considered whether temperature is a factor, and it is plausible that it plays a role in this phenomenon.

We also are seeming to experience this less since the summer has become hot. However, being in the Houston TX area, we do not have what most consider to be cold weather and there have been times in cooler months when the problem would seemingly go away for several weeks.

I would place more weight on your behavior regarding using the fob and the timing of the various events leading to use of the car (unlock, door entry, start, shift into gear, etc...) than I would on temperature.

I would be interested to get an update from FL_Bob since late May when he reported that a dealer replacement of the "Nav" had resolved the problem....

Just an update - I had the NAV Unit replaced 24 May due to the intermittent freezing problem. Since then it has been flawless. The unit replaced was listed as "00201-G210C-FLT AM/FM/AVN". I lost all the radio presets, Phone pairings, contacts, NAV recent POIs, etc. but that was no big deal to redo.
I have noticed that while this has never frozen, it is still not consistent in it's boot up time. It can take anywhere from 1 sec to 10 secs for the NAV "agree" screen to be active. My guess is the boot process involves a lot of polling of other equipment and is not tolerant of random timing on the responses. This is probably hard to see in the lab, but it should be easy to just build better boot up sequencing. I would suggest they change their electronics provider....maybe Garmin???

Guys, I wonder if you are noticing the same phenomenon. I seem to be getting way less stuck screens than during the colder months. In fact,I haven't gotten any in the past two months.I am not sure if I just changed my habits and open the car from the key fob giving the car more time to boot up, or if the temperature outside has any effect. Has anybody else noticed that the navigation doesn't get stuck as much?

Just had my hypothesis disproved this morning. 90 degrees and it still got stuck. I tried turning my phones bluetooth off, rebooting it, to see if it was the reason for the stuck screen, but it made no difference. Was stuck for my entire 45 minute drive. FL_BOB, I hope you received some updated unit where the problem has been fixed.

Back on 6/23/2012 I posted that my Navigation had frozen up again. This was after having it replaced in January. Check the 6/23/2012 post for history. As I suspected, it was necessary for the Dealer to order another replacement. I was told that the replace was on back order and they had no idea when a new one would be available. Well I called Hyundai Customer service and a replace was received by the Dealer and the replacement came in right away. The unit was replaced on 7/23/2012. When questining the service department on whether or not I could expect to replace it again in six or sever thousand miles, he said that this time there was a re-program that should fix the problem. We will see! Oddly enough, on 7/30/2012 the car started ruinning rough as if it was misfireing and the check engine light was flashing. When I took it in to the dealer it showed that the number one cylinder was misfiring. They found a TSB for this problem and re-programed the IDB. It seems this vechile may need allot of re-programing.

Just came back from the dealership from an oil change and a few other things. I mentioned the navi getting stuck, had videos prepared on my phone to show it happening, but to my surprise, the service person nodded and did not ask to see them. Afterwards he told me that Hyundai has a software update and that the issue was not hardware related. On my invoice, in addition to 10c161r1 2012 BH ECM S/W update, which i believe is for the transmission and some other things, there is a 20C026R1 BH &LM T.SCREEN NAVI SW REPRO. I don't want to get to excited since a lot of times what the dealer says is BS, and they may have just reloded the same software again, but I am remaining hopeful that this was the fix. I will report back if it becomes stuck again. All my navi settings and favorites remained as before and did not get deleted, only my XM presets got cleared for some reason..

I have a 2011 Genesis 3.8 with the premium package. I have been having this problem since about three months after I purchased the car. The blue screen comes on and won't go off. For about a year if I turned the car off waited 10 or 15 seconds and turned the engine back on the screen would boot up normally (to display the radio). Over time this has gotten worse and worse. What happens now is I drive to my destination (usually trips less than 25 minutes) and when I come back to the car (anywhere from 20 minutes to hours later) the boot-up is normal. This happens about once every week or two. It really pisses me off when I need the GPS to get where I am going and it doesn't work because of the blue screen of death. I have hesitated to bring the car in because I hate to be without a car and from the mostly hard luck stories I read here. It is a nice car but if they don't fix it when I finally bring it in I will not be buying another Genesis when new car buying time comes.

The NAV/Audio/Electronics etc only has a 3 yr / 36K mile warranty. They usually have to replace the entire unit (they don't repair them) and the non-warranty cost is very expensive. You should not wait any longer to take to a dealer if it is still in warranty. Most dealers will give you a loaner if you complain enough, even if it may not be a Genesis.

See my post on 8/1/2012. The replacement with the re-program did it for me. I haven't had any further problems.

Had the head unit replaced under warranty some months ago and since then have had no frozen blue screens. Anybody having this problem should see their dealer pronto and do the same. The trick is to drive right to the dealer to show them the frozen screen. Not possible? Then video it on your smartphone.

For about 5 days now- when starting the car, the NAV screen shows an address which I was at 5 or 6 days ago on the map. Then it fixes itself and shows current location- But only briefly- then it goes away and says Navigation restarting or something like that. THat screen is there for about 15 seconds and my map is on and working- for 10 seconds and the whole thing repeats itself.
Stopped by Hyundai quickly- they had no clue.
Anyone have this or better a fix?
I might detach battery and have car /electronics de-juice and reconnect to see if gremlins are gone.

2012 with tech package, just under 10,000 miles. Nav / Radio froze at Hyundai logo on startup after gassing up (did not start car right away on entry) - first time it's happened. Turned it off & back on to make it work.

I had this problem in my 2012 premium package where it stayed on the Hyundai logo but when I got my head unit replaced I haven't had the issue since then. And that was about a year ago. Seems the replacement has the fix. You would think a simple reprogram would do it but I guess not.
