  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is $40,799 a good price for a new black/black 2012 R-Spec?

I recently purchased a 2012 3.8 w/premium. I ended up purchasing my current Genesis from my local dealer in Cincinnati Ohio because I wanted white/cashmere.

I did have extensive email discussions with Randy Wetzel at Bob Poynter Hyundai during my purchase experience and found him to be a straight shooter. If I couldn't get the numbers to work at my local dealer, I would have gotten the 2012 silver/black 3.8 w/premium that Randy had last September.

Now I am wishing I had purchased the R-Spec and am considereing getting out of my 3.8 and going to the R-Spec.

Forgetting whether I will like the color or whether this change makes economic sense, is $40,799 a good price for a new R-Spec? The only other charges are tax (Indiana - 7%) and title ($35). This dealership prides itself on no hidden fees, no doc prep fees etc.

So, is this a good price for an new 2012 R-Spec?

Oh yeah - if someone else wants this car go ahead and call Randy, I am just toying with the idea and it is at best 50/50 whether I will move past the considering stage of the process.

I'd say a steal!

With Hyundai assurance the trade is based on the full sticker price - so you could drive this car for 2.5 years for around $10,000. Regardless, it is a good price - and I'm assuming that includes the $1500 Hyundai owner rebate. Just look at Truecar.com.

Yes, it includes the $1500 loyalty or competitive rebate.

What is he offering you for the 2012 3.8?

Actually haven't gotten that far in the discussion. I wanted to first determine if the price of the R-Spec stand alone is a good deal. Then I need to discuss this idea with "the one who must be obeyed."

If all that lines up, I will discuss trade or will consider selling my 3.8 privately. I have been fortunate in the past in selling my used cars privately, although in this case the sales tax savings would be huge if I traded it in.

Now back to contemplating the entire deal . . .

Yes, I would definitely upgrade ASAP. After all, your 2012 Genesis is a couple months old now, and who wants to be caught driving something that ancient? It would be hard to even imagine the shame of having to drive around in a car that old.

Just in case you don't know, you can now (or will soon be able to) get a Genesis 5.0 without the R-Spec sport-tuned suspension. They are shown on the Hyundai website, but not sure when they will be available.

I admit that one of the things I like about the R-Spec is the sport-tuned suspension. I also like what the suspension does to the curb appeal of the R-Spec. It looks more aggressive because the front end is lower than the rear. The only thing I would like to see with the 3.6 is a rear-end height that was higher then the front-end height.

This isn't really buyer's remorse because I do love my 3.6!
